Poem: Spirit
I close my eyes and hear screaming deep in my spirit. I wonder what happens next. I wonder how I became so disillusioned with the spirit’s mindset. Breathing down the neck of reality.
I can’t hear it.
I want to hear it, but the sounds of life drown out everything that pervades my existence.
The rage. The violence. The darkness. The sin.
I can’t hear it.
Speak to me, Spirit.
Only silence.
I feel its breath on my neck and hear the Spirit’s heartbeat in sync with my own. Finally, I can hear the words forming deep in my psyche. But I ignore it.
I hear it. Yet still… I ignore.
It roars again, deeper in my spirit, deeper in my ear. When the roar dies down, I realize it’s not him. Then I hear a faint whisper. A faint, small stream of words.
I love you, and I’m with you always.
I hear it. I obey.
Spirit merges with my spirit, and I fall into depth.
Spirit and my Spirit become one. It engulfs me.
Never will I not hear it again.

I heard them ringing deep in my mind
