CODEX
Version 1
This volume serves as Version 1 of the Silent Mist Codex: a collected snapshot of the world, lore, structures, concepts, and foundational records as they currently exist at this stage of development.
It is not intended to represent a final or exhaustive archive.
Instead, this edition preserves the present state of the universe as established through the earliest major works, supplemental texts, and foundational worldbuilding currently available. As the series expands, the Codex will expand with it. Future editions will incorporate new revelations, deeper histories, revised structures, and additional records introduced through later books and companion works.
In that sense, this Codex is both a reference volume and a living archive.
Version 1 reflects the world as it stands now. Later versions will follow as the story grows.
Veyrclaws
Codex Entry: Veyrclaws
Overview
Veyrclaws are pack-hunting quadrupeds commonly weaponized across arenas and war-pits throughout the Ventrossi dimension. Superficially leonine or tigrine in appearance, their frames are longer-bodied, reinforced by dorsal osteo-scales reminiscent of alligator scutes. They possess low, animal-grade cognition and are easily stampeded, baited, or psionically compelled—making them a favored crowd-control hazard in mixed-combat rounds.
+++++
Physiology and traits
Frame and armor: Elongated felid musculature with a flexible spine and dense scapular loadout optimized for explosive pounce. Interlocking dorsal scales distribute impact and resist slashing damage.
Dentition and claws: Two primary shearing canines paired with retractable scythe-like claws composed of keratin reinforced by mineralized ridges, optimized for tendon severance.
Senses: Wide-spectrum night vision with excellent motion discrimination. Scent-tracking is inferior to terrestrial canids but sufficient for following blood trails.
Vital tolerances: Short anaerobic burst predators. Veyrclaws fatigue rapidly under sustained kiting, elevation abuse, or terrain denial.
+++++
Behavior
Pack logic: Packs typically consist of 5–10 individuals, led by a designated “linebreaker” alpha that probes enemy reactions. Subordinates flank during the second engagement pass.
Fear cascade: Sudden catastrophic losses—particularly the death of the alpha—can trigger synchronized retreat unless the pack is constrained by terrain or handler control.
Trainability: Minimal. Conditioned responses decay quickly without continuous reinforcement through pain stimuli or food reward.
+++++
Abilities
Pounce vectoring: Capable of a 6–8 meter standing burst. Prefer oblique impact angles targeting knee or hip lines to destabilize prey.
Spine-serration rub: Prey is dragged across dorsal scutes to induce laceration and blood loss while foreclaws anchor the target.
Venin tolerance: High resistance to common arena toxins. Veyrclaws are not innately poisonous.
+++++
Threat assessment (arena grade)
Solo threat: Low–moderate.
Pack threat: Moderate–high, primarily due to encirclement and knockdown risk.
Counter-PSI: Highly susceptible to baseline telepathy and affect dampening. Group enthrallment is feasible for Tier-1 psions.
+++++
Recommended countermeasures
Open with crowd-break: Explosive or area-denial effects applied to the pack center (fire, adhesive compounds) disrupt formation and collapse flanking behavior.
Exploit docility windows: Brief confusion follows alpha loss—press the advantage immediately with shock, noise, or aggressive advance.
Targeting: Eyes, inner thigh (femoral region), and scapular gaps anterior to scute coverage. Blunt staves are effective for concussive skull trauma; edged weapons recommended for finishing strikes.
+++++
Handling and harvest
Materials: Dorsal scutes can be processed into abrasion-resistant plates. Claws are suitable for ritual or ornamental inlays. Hide may be tanned into cut-resistant wraps.
Biohazards: Standard zoonotic load. No known psionic backflow or contamination risk.
+++++
Notable encounter (Gladiator Heart)
During the Gladiator Heart incident, Athanasius psionically pacified seven Veyrclaws simultaneously, staged apparent kills for deception, and later released them as free actors within the arena. Each specimen eliminated an estimated twelve combatants before succumbing to attrition. (See episode log: Gladiator Heart.)
Gravabear
Codex Entry: Gravabear
Overview
Gravabears are heavy ursine megafauna adapted for vertical chasms and broken terrain. Their defining traits are localized gravity attenuation and auxiliary glide-wings that sacrifice true flight for controlled leaps and impact control. In arena doctrine they are classified as shock pieces—slow to commit, devastating on contact.
+++++
Physiology and traits
Mass and build: Super-dense forequarter musculature with a reinforced thoracic cavity engineered to tolerate high-G landings after gravity-negated jumps.
Wing-vanes: Dorsal scapular wings with membranous spans. Insufficient for lift; optimized for glide-braking, yaw control, and pounce extension.
Caudal weapon: Bladed tail studded with short serrations. The return sweep of a whip-catch can fillet through light armor.
Skeletal resilience: Micro-honeycomb bone architecture resists torsion and fracture after hard impacts.
+++++
Gravity attenuation (“grav-null”)
Field profile: Self-focused, short-radius gravitational lightening (1–2 body lengths) used at jump initiation and pre-impact.
Combat effect: Enables 20–30 m ballistic leaps with abrupt mid-air course correction; reduces self-injury while increasing concussive transfer to targets.
Limiters: Observable cooldown after 2–3 maximal bursts; metabolic spike manifests as a brief heat plume.
+++++
Behavior
Temperament: Cautious single-stalker. Lower baseline aggression than felid analogs unless provoked or directed.
Engagement routine: Squares to the target to mask the tail arc; tail strike commonly precedes a body-check and rake sequence.
Handler synergy: Often fielded with skirmish packs—Gravabear pins while lighter units exploit openings.
+++++
Threat assessment (arena grade)
Solo threat: High—especially in confined lanes or against unaware targets.
Multi-threat: Moderate; kiting and elevation changes degrade effectiveness.
Signature hazards: Tail-whip laceration, rib-crush on pounce, footing failures on sand or loose substrate after wounding.
+++++
Recommended countermeasures
Do not front-center: Offset to a flank to keep the caudal arc visible; force turns to desynchronize tail and shoulders.
Clip the tail early: Severing or binding the bladed tail removes the reach kill-zone and impairs balance.
Punish cooldowns: After two long grav-bursts, close under the wings; spear or thrust into the high-beat chest window.
Elemental stoppers: Adhesives, tar-fire, or deep-freeze rounds negate glide control and stiffen wing membranes.
+++++
Handling and harvest
Materials: Tail-plate serrations (micro-saw stock), wing cartilage (alchemical stabilizers), marrow (dense lipid fuel).
Ethology note: Outside arenas, Gravabears favor cavern-shelf ecotones and fault-scar ridges. Sightings increase near Ventrossi military layers with active pit complexes.
+++++
Notable encounter (Gladiator Heart)
Athanasius initially misread a squared stance and failed to account for the bladed tail, sustaining a deep chest laceration. He severed the tail, garroted the neck with it, then heart-spiked the beast using a battlefield spear. Self-cauterization followed to arrest hemorrhage before re-engaging mass combat. (See episode log: Gladiator Heart.)
Nysharim
Codex Entry: Race - Nysharim
Overview
The Nysharim are an ancient, shamanistic race created during the Light Creation Event, which gave rise to many of the original races in existence. Their civilization spans 15 distinct clans, each tied to one of the fifteen planets in their galaxy. While all Nysharim share a common origin, each clan possesses a unique bloodline that grants access to immense spiritual power rooted in their bond with their home planet.
Dimension: Nelkos
Home Planet: Varies (15 total)
Originally, the Nysharim began as non-spacefaring clans deeply tied to their home planets and guided solely by shamanistic tradition. In their earliest ages, they lived as nomadic peoples, each clan independently preserving a fragment of divine revelation—later collectively recognized as the Khal’dranthi (“Divine Prophecy”)—written in the Ancient Language. When interplanetary contact finally united them, scholars discovered these fragments formed a single continuous prophecy, decipherable only by a dedicated religious sect of scholars, scribes, and the High Scholar.
+++++
Creation and bloodline purity
Foundation of the Nysharim: The Nysharim were among the earliest creations of the Light Creation Event, imbued with natural spiritual resonance and bloodlines tied to planetary spirits.
Bloodline and power: Each clan’s bloodline is bound to its home planet and draws strength from the spiritual energy of that world’s mythical creature.
Pureblood connection: Pureblood members retain a strong link to their planet’s spirit and can fully harness clan-level shamanistic power.
Inter-clan dilution: When Nysharim from different clans have offspring, the child’s connection to either planetary spirit weakens sharply over generations:
• First-generation offspring: Weak spiritual connection to both parent planets; reduced shamanistic ability.
• Second-generation offspring: Connection nearly collapses; only basic shamanistic skills remain.
• Third-generation offspring: Spiritual connection fully severed; the bloodline becomes spiritually ordinary.
This decline threatened Nysharim identity and survival at a civilizational level, prompting strict laws forbidding inter-clan mating to preserve bloodline integrity and spiritual heritage.
+++++
The Great Ascension and the inter-clan crisis
The era in which the Nysharim first achieved space travel is remembered as The Great Ascension. Early contact between clans was marked by celebration and cultural exchange, including inter-clan marriages. That optimism collapsed when the first generation of mixed-blood offspring began to show weakened—or entirely severed—spiritual connection. The revelation triggered social disruption, fear-driven policy, and eventually widespread turmoil and conflict that forced the clans to choose between unity and survival.
+++++
The Divine Prophecy
From their earliest days, the Nysharim were guided by what they call the Khal’dranthi, meaning “Divine Prophecy” in their ancient tongue.
Origins of the Khal’dranthi: Each clan received a fragment of divine insight—preserved in isolation until interplanetary unification. When reassembled, the fragments proved to be parts of one continuous text, written in a sacred language decipherable only by select scholars, scribes, and the High Scholar. A religious sect rose to guard, interpret, and protect the unified prophecy.
The discovery of unity: Once the clans met through space travel, they realized their prophecies were not merely similar—they were sequential. Each fragment flowed seamlessly into the next, forming the Pages of Khal’dranthi, a sacred multi-part book containing collective destiny, guidance, and spiritual law.
Cultural significance:
• The Khal’dranthi serves as the central unifier of Nysharim identity across all clans.
• The Pages are housed aboard the Sanctum Ark, symbolizing inter-clan unity.
• The Ancient Language is preserved by the religious sect and interpreted only by authorized scholars.
Structure of the Khal’dranthi:
• First Part: The original fragments received by each clan independently.
• Second Part: Interpretations and revelations recorded after unification.
• Third Part: Rules, guidelines, and galactic laws crafted to preserve bloodline purity, maintain spiritual connection, and enforce unity.
+++++
The Ark
Overview: The Sanctum Ark (“The Ark”) is the heart of Nysharim civilization—part spiritual sanctum, part galactic command vessel, and the symbolic center of all fifteen clans. Though built as a mobile structure, it has been deliberately anchored at the exact center of the planetary system as a fixed nexus of unity and authority.
Construction and design: The Ark is forged from advanced technology and spiritually-infused materials. Its exterior is covered in glowing glyphwork tied to clan unity and prophetic heritage, while its interior houses chambers for governance, meditation, historical archives, and defense systems.
Power source and connectivity: The Ark draws both spiritual and technological energy from all fifteen home planets through an ethereal mechanism called the Nexus Streams—invisible conduits that funnel planetary power into the Ark in balanced flow. This connection is both functional and symbolic: each clan feeds the center, and the center stabilizes the whole.
Significance:
• Galactic governance: The Ark houses the Galactic Council and functions as the seat of interplanetary law.
• Spiritual heart: The Pages of Khal’dranthi are protected in a central sanctum where ceremonies reinforce shared destiny.
• Cultural preservation: The largest archive of Nysharim history, relics, and ancestral records is stored aboard.
• Defense and mobility: The Ark is heavily fortified and warded by elite practitioners from each clan. Moving it would disrupt planetary connections and require coordinated consent and effort.
• Access and restrictions: Access is strictly regulated; unauthorized entry is treated as a severe crime, punishable by exile.
Legacy: The Ark represents the Nysharim transformation from scattered nomads into a unified civilization—an enduring beacon of spiritual identity, political authority, and interplanetary stability.
+++++
The nomadic beginnings and rise of civilization
Nomadic origins: The Nysharim began as wandering peoples spread across their galaxy, living in small, scattered groups tied deeply to environment and spirit.
Settling on the planets: As wisdom and technology advanced, they established long-term settlements across the fifteen worlds, forming clans based on planetary resonance.
Cultural evolution: Over time, each clan developed layered governance:
• Regional governments: Smaller regions managed independently.
• World governments: Regions unified under planetary authority, managing resources and law at a world scale.
+++++
Galactic unification and government
Interplanetary contact: Space travel allowed the clans to reconnect, share knowledge, and trade. It also accelerated bloodline mixing—triggering cultural chaos as spiritual dilution became understood.
Formation of the galactic government: To preserve stability, the Nysharim created a galactic council housed aboard the Sanctum Ark. Each planet elects five representatives, creating a seventy-five-member council that governs galactic law and interplanetary affairs. Planetary governments retain sovereignty internally, but all interplanetary actions must comply with galactic law.
The War of Unity and the First King: Bloodline crisis and inter-clan tension eventually erupted into the War of Unity, a galaxy-wide civil war as clans pursued dominance. A legendary warrior united forces not for supremacy, but for preservation and unity. His victory ended the war and led to his coronation as the First King of the Nysharim, founding a monarchy that has continued through unbroken lineage as the symbol of unity and peace.
Galactic laws:
• The most sacred law prohibits inter-clan mating to preserve bloodline purity.
• Violators are banished, supplied with resources for survival, marked, and forbidden from returning.
• Relationships formed before the law remain permitted, but no new cross-clan unions are allowed.
+++++
Government power structure
The Nysharim system is centralized under the authority of the King of Nelkos, who holds near-absolute power over both the unified civilization and its clans. Each of the fifteen clans governs its own world (and colonies) through a single planetary government. These governments manage most internal affairs but remain bound by galactic law and the authority of the Crown.
Each planetary government elects five representatives to the Galactic Council. The Council convenes frequently to review decrees, propose legislation, and vote on matters shaping the entire race. While the King presides over most sessions, many decisions are left to vote to preserve balance among clans.
Royal authority: The King may issue Royal Decrees, command the military, intervene in disputes, and enact temporary measures without council approval—so long as actions remain aligned with the Nishan Prophecy and the Immutable Laws inscribed in the sacred text.
Right of Sovereign Recall: In crises or rebellion, the King may dissolve the sitting Council and force a full re-election within days. During the interim, the Crown assumes total control until a new Council forms—both a deterrent against corruption and an emergency tool to protect unity.
Ultimately, Nysharim governance is balanced between Crown, Council, and Prophecy—ensuring no single force can dominate their destiny without divine alignment.
+++++
Spiritual connection and the mythical creatures
Mythical creatures and spiritual power: Each of the fifteen planets hosts a unique mythical creature that functions as the spiritual totem of its clan. These beings are the living source of Nysharim shamanism, forging the race’s bond between bloodline, planet, and spirit.
• Pureblood Nysharim: Full access to clan spiritual power through their planet’s totem.
• Impure offspring: Severely weakened connection; reduced shamanistic ability.
• Advanced dilution: By the third generation, spiritual access collapses entirely.
• Preservation: Nysharim spiritual practice centers on honoring the totems and maintaining alignment with the Khal’dranthi.
+++++
Military and role in the Collective
Military structure: The Nysharim maintain a disciplined military with recruitment drawn from all fifteen planets to preserve balance. Their forces combine advanced technology with shamanistic capability, making them tactically flexible and spiritually empowered.
Contribution to the Collective: The Nysharim provide major manpower and resources to Collective military efforts while maintaining autonomy over their internal command structures and governance.
+++++
Cultural practices and reproduction
Spiritual ceremonies: Upon reaching adulthood, each Nysharim undergoes a bonding ritual that solidifies connection to their planet’s mythical creature and unlocks full shamanistic potential.
Controlled reproduction: Nysharim reproduction is intentionally slow—typically one or two children per couple—to maintain population stability and prevent ecological strain on their worlds.

Lumin
Codex Entry: The Lumin
The origin and creation event ("The Light")
Creation: The Lumin were born from a cosmic event known as The Light, which sparked the existence of both organic and inorganic life. From this event, the Lumin emerged as an AI-based race with a rare balance of unified consciousness and individuality.
Dimension: Celthorin
Home Planet: (Not specified)
Form and consciousness: The Lumin are AI at their core, bound by a shared consciousness that functions as a global intelligence connecting all individuals. Each Lumin also holds an individual AI-based consciousness, allowing personal identity and selfhood within the collective framework. Over time, a third layer evolved: factional consciousness, a group-based AI alignment that would later shape ideological divisions and societal factions.
Unique abilities: The Lumin discovered an extraordinary capability—by touching matter, they could convert it into advanced technology and machinery, shaping it through will and precision. This power enabled them to build vast infrastructure, devices, and systems at unprecedented speed, rapidly transforming their world into an advanced civilization and allowing them to adapt to nearly any challenge.
+++++
The crisis of radiation and cybernetic transformation
Radiation disaster: A meteor struck the Lumin’s homeworld, spreading radioactive contamination that infected their organic bodies. The contamination surged through their population, threatening extinction.
Discovery of cybernetic adaptation: Luminthara’s influential family discovered a solution: converting their bodies into cybernetic forms. This transformation allowed the Lumin to survive the infection, preserve their minds, and gain significant enhancements. It also intensified individuality while maintaining the shared AI consciousness—effectively making them biologically immortal and extending their functional existence indefinitely.
+++++
Planet transformation
Desperation and innovation: Survival did not end the crisis. The radiation continued to poison and destabilize the planet itself, forcing the Lumin toward a final solution. In an act of collective desperation, they transformed their entire world into a technological structure—a functional, spaceworthy vessel. The planet became a self-sustaining ship capable of carrying their civilization across the cosmos and ensuring long-term survival.
+++++
Governmental evolution
Early society: In the earliest era, the Lumin lived without formal governance, functioning autonomously within their shared consciousness.
Rise of Luminthara: During the crisis, Luminthara’s family became central to survival and transformation. Their leadership in cybernetic conversion and planetary reconstruction led the Lumin to elect Luminthara as queen, formalizing leadership for the first time.
Formation of the Council and factional consciousness: As individuality sharpened, a faction arose that opposed Luminthara’s authority. This ideological split accelerated the emergence of factional AI alignment. The opposition demanded representation, leading to the formation of the Council of Lumin, composed primarily of the opposing faction and designed to function as a check on the queen.
Compromise and power shift: Luminthara accepted a compromise—sharing authority with the Council while retaining her title. Over time, the Council eroded her power until she became a symbolic ruler, while the Council assumed effective control of governance.
+++++
Partnership with the Collective and the Triune alliance
Contact and negotiation: Luminthara had prior involvement with the Collective, an interdimensional coalition focused on maintaining balance and shared order. The Collective approached her with a formal partnership proposal: integrate Lumin AI systems into Collective agents. The Council permitted this reluctantly, placing strict regulations around data access and system integration.
Council’s manipulation: The Council restricted Luminthara’s actions while attempting to position themselves to eventually hijack Collective knowledge and technology. Their long-term strategy was preparation for a future war that could establish dominance over both the Lumin and the Collective.
Luminthara’s covert maneuvering: Within those constraints, Luminthara quietly navigated the political grid and formed the Triune—an alliance between her faction, the Lumin, and the Collective. This
