Translated Recovered Passages from the First Tongue For inclusion in The Sanguine Law The Secrets of Blood Magic (Translated from the First Tongue) Blood is not merely fluid, nor merely sustenance, nor merely the vessel of curse. Blood is memory made living, law made inward, burden made inheritable. Before word is spoken by the mouth, blood has already spoken within the body. Before oath is uttered, blood has already accepted or resisted what the soul would bind. Therefore no fool shall call blood magic a craft of tricks or gestures. It is the handling of continuity itself. The ignorant believe blood obeys because it is power. This is false. Blood obeys because it remembers. It remembers first violence, first inheritance, first rebellion, first binding, first grief. It remembers the hand that struck, the wound that opened, the will that claimed, and the law that followed. Thus blood is not commanded as a beast is commanded. It is addressed according to standing, burden, and right. He who would wield blood against law wounds himself before he wounds another. She who would invoke blood for vanity hollows her own interior before the spell reaches its object. For blood does not forget the difference between burden and appetite, between sanctioned force and theft, between rightful command and the false enthronement of desire. Know then the first principle: blood magnifies the standing of the speaker. The righteous become more terrible. The disciplined become more precise. The liar becomes more divided. The hungry become more exposed. The faithless are often answered first by their own corruption. Know the second principle: blood binds more deeply than flesh. What is done through blood may cling beyond healing
