They were doing a full main current plotline in the Annuals, an origin story in the back of each one that ran from the time when he was a human, throughout his entire origin from start to finish.

They were running his current storyline right alongside a second set of stories running through the same annuals serving as his original story. So it was a unique style of telling the story.

On the comic end of things I just wrapped up the storyline for the High Evolutionary and I was pleasantly surprised. It actually ran through almost a dozen different Annuals across the entire marvel universe back in the 1980's.
