Kurohyō 1 substories: Chapter 1
Substories open after the Choraku scene. You can leave difficult optional fights until later. In particular, Horii is level 10 while Tatsuya is still learning the basics.
1. Demon of Kamuro / 神室の悪魔
Start: compulsory story encounter on Taihei Boulevard West after Choraku.
Beat the three Diablo members. This introduces Tsukahara and opens his training lot behind Kotobuki Drugs. Reward: 300 EXP. It is also the first link in the gang chain.
2. DIABLO's Moriya / ディアブロの守屋
Requires: Demon of Kamuro.
Start: the south entrance of Nakamichi Street.
Defeat Yamashita, then Moriya. Moriya is level 3 and uses Street Fighting. Reward: 400 EXP. Completing this opens DIS's recruitment approach.
3. DIS's Scout / DISからのスカウト
Requires: DIABLO's Moriya.
Start: near the back of Theater Square, northeast of Mach Bowl.
Talk to Tajima and continue the conversation into the fight. Beat him for 400 EXP. This is the prerequisite for “Ukyo Joins DIS!?” in Chapter 2, the one you should finish before Chapter 10.
4. Playboy Shiraishi / 遊び人白石
Start: the Theater Square back-street/Taihei Boulevard West area. If he is not there, finish the Moriya encounter and check again.
Intervene when the two men harass the woman, defeat them, then fight Shiraishi. Reward: 400 EXP. This begins his separate social storyline, which eventually connects to the Kingdom investigation.
5. 10th Dan Brawler: Kentaro Horii / 喧嘩10段 堀井健太郎
Start: reporter Shibuya on the east side of Theater Square.
Accept the interview, equip Street Fighting and find Horii near the Champion District's western entrance. He will only accept the match when you use his style. Win, then return to Shibuya.
Reward: 100 EXP, ¥10,000 reporting fee and the Jump High Kick training lead. The lead makes the move available for training; it does not automatically teach the move for free.
Horii is a sensible early test of your defense, but there is no need to defeat him immediately. Coming back with more levels, healing supplies and experience is preferable to burning all your money in Chapter 1.
Before moving on, make sure you have spoken to Tsukahara after the compulsory Diablo fight. The training system is useful throughout the game, and later cat reports return you to the same place.
