Kurohyō 1 substories: what counts, what can be missed, and how to get unstuck
The substory list contains 105 entries when you include the repeat collectible milestones, ranking milestones and hostess stories. It is not just the street conversations marked with question marks.
The chapter-by-chapter guides use descriptive English names with the original Japanese title beside them. Names vary between patches and older English guides. Match the Japanese title, character or starting location if your menu calls something different.
Chapters listed are the earliest chapter for a substory, not a deadline. A later step may need a previous substory, a story phone call or a particular fighting style. If a marker is missing, check those conditions before assuming your save is broken.
The exception to treat seriously: finish “Ukyo Joins DIS!?” / 右京DIS加入!? before Chapter 10. Its opening has been reported unavailable there. It links into the wider Diablo, DIS, Death Corps and Kingdom chain, so leaving it unfinished can hold up much more than one entry.
Other things worth saving before:
• Shiraishi's cooking choice in Chapter 4. Choose yellowtail with daikon, ブリ大根, for the later Lucky Amulet.
• The fragile-gift delivery. Three pedestrian collisions break the gift. You can retry, but walking carefully is quicker.
• “Falling in Love” outside Gelateria in Chapter 8. Accepting locks you into its tailing sequence.
• “Kuroda's Past” and “Conclusion.” Each has a specific partner Heat Action to record during its group fight.
The long gang chain
Chapter 1: Demon of Kamuro → DIABLO's Moriya → DIS's Scout.
Chapter 2: Ukyo Joins DIS!? → DIABLO's Assassin.
Chapter 3: Fake Ukyo → The Truth Behind the Rumors.
Chapter 4: Delinquent Rebirth → Kuroda's Fate → Death Corps' Revenge → Shido.
Chapter 5: Ukyo vs. Death Corps.
Chapter 6: Death Corps' Four Heavenly Kings → Kuroda's Past.
Chapter 7: A Mysterious Group → Kingdom Come.
Chapter 8: Aono's Wish → Emerging Kingdom Forces → Battle with Akagi.
Chapter 9: Follow Kingdom → Conclusion.
Chapter 10: the four gang-leader epilogues.
“Follow Kingdom” also needs the Chapter 7 Mars Fighters autograph substory. Keep up with Shiraishi's separate social chain, beginning with “Playboy Shiraishi,” so you don't reach Chapter 9 with that prerequisite missing.
Entries outside the ordinary chapter routes
• Eleven cat milestones: 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 101. Report to Tsukahara, not just your personal checklist. The detailed cat guide covers the actual positions.
• Six trading-card sets: Mayuko Hanakiyo, Reika Miki, Hikaru Seto, Keiko Sawaguchi, Ai Uozumi and Mai Shibahara. Each complete six-card set gives 1,000 EXP and a substory completion.
• Six additional Kamurocho Ranking milestones: top 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 and champion. Unlocking the tournament is only its introductory substory.
• Seven hostess stories: Yu, Saya, Kirie and Yurika at JeweL; Aya, Mika and Jo at SHINE. The first six award 1,500 EXP each. Yurika awards 4,000 EXP and needs clear-data progression. Follow the individual hostess routes for their dates and final events.
• Cabaret Club Tiger / キャバクラの寅. Win the cabaret battle for each of the six initially available hostesses. After the sixth victory, leave the club and defeat Hanamachi. The reward is the 1,000-conquests medal and 500 EXP.
Gaia is the final substory, but his unlock is not the same as finishing every hostess romance. The Japanese guides report him appearing with individual hostess stories still unfinished, provided Cabaret Club Tiger and the other non-hostess entries are done. You do need the cards, cats and ranking milestones. Yurika's post-clear requirement does not by itself force you to postpone Gaia to a second run.
The chapter guides list completion EXP and meaningful rewards. Normal fight payouts and random or incidental drops are separate unless explicitly stated. For legendary interviews, always return to reporter Shibuya afterward: defeating the fighter does not collect the reporting fee for you.
