Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan!: completing all seven courtesan relationships
This is the gameplay route for the original Japanese PS3 release. It covers access, hearts, prices, equipment bonuses, dates and completion checks. The individual route guides contain every regular conversation topic, all three milestone conversations, food and gift preferences, and the seven final requests. Relationship-story spoilers appear in those final-request sections.
WHERE TO START
The relationships open in Chapter 5. Yumejiya has Kinuyo, Suzukaze and Momochika. Azamiya has Hinagiku, Hanamaru and Shirayuki. Complete those six women's final requests before Asagiri becomes available at Yumejiya.
Session fees are:
• Kinuyo: 2,500 Mon.
• Suzukaze: 2,500 Mon.
• Momochika: 5,000 Mon.
• Hinagiku: 1,500 Mon.
• Hanamaru: 1,500 Mon.
• Shirayuki: 4,000 Mon.
• Asagiri: 1 Ryo, or 10,000 Mon.
An extension charges the session fee again, and you order food and drink again. A successful outing returns you to a session with the entry fee waived. Gifts are offered on later visits, not the first introduction.
Finish the Gion work before telling Ito you are ready to leave in Chapter 12. That departure permanently closes Gion during the story, even though Koetsu later lets you change the time outside the district.
THE HEART-GAUGE ROUTE
1. Start with a maximum of 10 hearts.
2. Reach at least 6 hearts to become eligible for a minigame invitation. The introduction visit has its own limited conversation sequence, so do not assume reaching a number immediately bypasses that visit structure.
3. Win the game to raise the cap to 15.
4. Reach 11 hearts and arrange the outing. Talk to the attendant outside the establishment, receive the letter and read it for the meeting place.
5. Make the outing successful to raise the cap to 20.
6. Reach 20 hearts and complete the milestone conversations that appear at 11, 16 and 20 hearts.
7. Finish the woman's final request and read her follow-up letter.
A full meter is not the entire requirement. If the final request does not appear, check the special conversations and finish another session at 20. Repeatedly buying expensive presents cannot substitute for an unseen story conversation.
For the required games, use the separate guide to the four courtesan minigames. Yumejiya initially uses Bottle Knockdown and Konpira Fune Fune; Azamiya uses Iroha Karuta and Fan Toss. Asagiri is the final opponent for all four. Relationship completion and each game's opponent checklist are separate records.
CONVERSATION LOOKUPS
Normal conversation topics do not appear in a fixed sequence. Identify the current question before choosing a response; a remembered button position is not useful if it belongs to a different topic. The route guides give a short topic description, the winning answer's meaning and a small Japanese recognition cue. Match the wording on your screen.
There is no response timer, so take the time to identify it. The choices are game mechanics, sometimes deliberately strange ones; the answer awarding hearts is not necessarily the most sensible response outside this game.
The first meeting has two conversations. Later sessions offer three at 0–5 hearts, four at 6–10, five at 11–15, and six at 16–20. This makes good answers increasingly valuable as the relationship develops. It also means conversation-triggered drinking can accumulate during a long visit.
EQUIPMENT BONUSES
Equipment contributes to a hidden handsomeness total. Its session-entry effect starts on the second meeting, not the first. Aim for a total of at least 16 when your available equipment permits it.
Contributions are:
• +10: Seamless Raiment; Rising Dragon Inro.
• +7: Shichifuku Sarashi.
• +6: Sacred Tree Armour.
• +5: Dragon Armour; Lucky Beads; Deer Antler Netsuke.
• +4: Dragon Katabira; Resurrection Stone.
• +3: Dragon Sarashi; Hariti Amulet; European Men's Sachet; Shoes of Good Health; Yoichi Talisman.
• +2: Man's Sarashi; Runner's Shoes; Large Tengu Fan; Gion Inari Talisman; Beautiful Woman Shunga; Tiger Skin Obi.
• +1: Sarashi; Yasaka Shrine Talisman.
For Shirayuki, European Men's Sachet contributes −10 instead of +3. Remove it before visiting her. The same outfit is therefore not automatically suitable for every route.
At totals of 0–5, Kinuyo, Suzukaze, Momochika, Hinagiku and Hanamaru receive no entry adjustment. Shirayuki loses 0.25 hearts and Asagiri loses 0.5.
At 6–15, the entry bonuses are Kinuyo +0.5, Suzukaze +0.5, Momochika +0.75, Hinagiku +0.25 and Hanamaru +1. Shirayuki and Asagiri have no adjustment.
At 16 or more, Kinuyo, Suzukaze, Shirayuki and Asagiri gain +1; Momochika gains +1.25; Hinagiku gains +0.75; Hanamaru gains +1.5.
Use the equipment you already have before buying something solely for this system. Repeated good conversations can do most of the work; gifts are a way to supplement progress, not a compulsory purchase every time.
THE SHARED DRINK MENU
These prices and intoxication changes apply to the common menu. The route guides list each woman's heart reaction separately. Intoxication numbers are internal values, so use them to understand risk rather than expecting the interface to show an exact reading.
• Green Tea: free; intoxication −150 to −50.
• Orange Water: 50 Mon; −50 to 0.
• Blackcurrant Orange Sake: 100 Mon; +100 to +200.
• Malt Sake: 200 Mon; +150 to +250.
• Flaming Shochu: 800 Mon; +350 to +450.
• Amber European Sake: 2,000 Mon; +200 to +400.
• Maiden's Amazake: 3,000 Mon; +100 to +120.
• Snowy Wind Refined Sake: 5,000 Mon; +150 to +350.
• Sugoroku Unrefined Sake: 8,000 Mon; +200 to +300.
• Celebration Sake: 1 Ryo; +200 to +500.
THE SHARED FOOD MENU
• Pickled Vegetables: 30 Mon; intoxication −10.
• Red and White Manju: 50 Mon; −20.
• Dried Squid: 80 Mon; −5.
• Fresh Vegetables: 100 Mon; −30.
• Nori Wasabi Sea Bream Chazuke: 200 Mon; −70.
• Boiled Kyoto Vegetables: 300 Mon; −40.
• Sparrow Yakitori: 400 Mon; −60.
• Fruit Serving: 500 Mon; −50.
• Seafood Funamori: 800 Mon; −80.
• Broiled Tuna Head: 1,000 Mon; −90.
In the individual routes, shorter labels such as “chazuke,” “amazake” and “funamori” refer to these exact menu items. Older translations use different food names; identify them by price as well as wording.
WATCH THE DRINKING
Skipping either order costs 0.25 hearts. Skipping both costs 0.5. That does not mean every item is better than skipping: a disliked order can also reduce hearts, and expensive alcohol can end the visit early.
At an intoxication value of 950 or more, Kiryu is expelled, the session ends and the relationship loses a heart. The narrow 800–949 band can award +2, but deliberately trying to sit there is unreliable because drink increases vary. Some conversation responses add another 300–600 intoxication.
Food reduces intoxication modestly; it does not make repeated strong drinks harmless. Arrive sober, use neutral or liked nonalcoholic choices where available, and be particularly careful before an extension or a drinking-related reply.
DATES: ARRIVE QUICKLY AND BUY THE RIGHT THING
Meet the woman within two minutes for +1 heart. Arriving after ten minutes costs three. Deal with shopping and unrelated errands before accepting a time-sensitive meeting rather than wandering around after the letter arrives.
The destination has its own heart adjustment. A liked meal or date gift adds +1 on top. Buying a more expensive liked item does not increase that +1. This is separate from session gifts, where favourites can award +2.
Use the route's recommended destination and listed item for a dependable positive result. A disliked destination may have a penalty that a liked item partly offsets, but an unsuccessful outing can be repeated. Keep enough money for the actual order, not merely the session fee.
RUNNING INTO ANOTHER WOMAN
These encounters can occur if you have visited the other woman but have not completed her final request. Each particular encounter occurs only once. Asagiri has none because the other six routes must already be complete.
The encounter reference below gives menu positions for these specific interruption scenes. The following choices avoid a three-heart penalty. The name before the colon is your current date; the name after the venue is the woman who interrupts.
• Kinuyo: Koyoro/Shirayuki, option 3; Hatsukaze/Hanamaru, option 2; Ginya/Suzukaze, option 3; Arigataya/Momochika, option 1.
• Suzukaze: Koyoro/Momochika, option 3; Hatsukaze/Kinuyo, option 3; Ginya/Hanamaru, option 1; Arigataya/Hinagiku, option 1.
• Momochika: Koyoro/Suzukaze, option 2; Hatsukaze/Hinagiku, option 2; Ginya/Kinuyo, option 3; Arigataya/Shirayuki, option 1.
• Hinagiku: Koyoro/Hanamaru, option 1; Hatsukaze/Suzukaze, option 2; Ginya/Momochika, option 3; Arigataya/Shirayuki, option 3.
• Hanamaru: Koyoro/Kinuyo, option 2; Hatsukaze/Shirayuki, option 2; Ginya/Hinagiku, option 2; Arigataya/Suzukaze, option 3.
• Shirayuki: Koyoro/Hanamaru, option 3; Hatsukaze/Hinagiku, option 2; Ginya/Kinuyo, option 2; Arigataya/Momochika, option 3.
Finishing one route before starting several more reduces these interruptions. Either approach works; the important part is checking which woman you are currently accompanying before choosing a reply.
FINAL CHECK
The first six final requests each award 2,000 EXP. Asagiri's awards 10,000. All seven requests together unlock the Immortal Turtle reward. Retain the letters and check both the relationship/request records and the separate minigame opponent records before leaving Gion.
