Kenzan! guide: Star Actor, the 1,000 Ryo target and its exclusive Heat Action
Star Actor puts you onstage in kabuki makeup and pays you for fighting well. The irritating part is that some of your normal fighting habits work against you here. Running around and rolling away from everything can reduce what the audience throws, even if you're winning the fight.
Where to start
Complete request 32, Izumo no Okuni, in Rakugai. That unlocks repeat performances. Come back at night; the repeatable minigame is not available during the day or evening. Look for the performance activity in Rakugai rather than trying to start it from one of the regular gambling tables.
The performance lasts two minutes. You fight with the stage's equipment and cannot switch styles the way you would in an ordinary encounter. Defeat enemies and collect the money the audience throws.
What counts for completion
Collect at least 1,000 Ryo in one performance. Several smaller performances do not add together for this requirement. Reaching the target also earns the Star Actor Umbrella.
There is a separate reason to play: Star Actor Mastery, an exclusive umbrella Heat Action. You need to perform it for the Heat-action completion list. Getting the money target does not automatically tick that move off, and performing the move does not automatically earn 1,000 Ryo.
How the money works
The amount thrown depends on the finishing hit and what happens during the performance:
- Later defeats are worth more as the time-based portion of the payout grows.
- A more damaging finishing blow adds more money.
- Finishing an enemy with a Heat Action adds a bonus.
- Taking damage reduces the payout.
- Running, evading and dodge-rolling reduce it too.
- If time expires while you are performing a Heat Action, you receive an additional 100 Ryo. That final bonus is added afterward, so you don't have to run over and collect it.
The scoring breakdown gives a 1.5 Ryo increase per elapsed second, half the finishing blow's damage in Ryo, and 50 Ryo for a Heat Action finish. The listed damage penalty is one tenth of the damage received in Ryo. Movement penalties apply during running and evasion animations, which is why constant rolling is so expensive here.
Those modifiers affect the money thrown. Don't read the time bonus as a reason to stand still for two minutes and expect a free completion. You still need to defeat opponents and collect the proceeds.
A practical way to approach the target
Walk into a useful position and let enemies come within reach. Block when you need to defend instead of automatically rolling away. Keep your attacks controlled enough to avoid taking unnecessary hits, then finish enemies with strong attacks when the opportunity is there.
You don't need to refuse every evasive move. Taking a large hit just to avoid one roll isn't good play either. The point is to stop using movement constantly when it isn't helping.
Watch where the money lands. A strong performance doesn't help if you leave its proceeds sitting on the stage, but sprinting back and forth after every individual drop can also hurt your score. Position yourself so you can collect without spending the whole performance chasing scattered money.
If your damage is poor and the target feels out of reach, come back after gaining levels. Your attack power affects the damage of your finishing blow, which affects the payout. There is a real difference between attempting this early and returning with a stronger character.
Star Actor Mastery
This move is available during request 32 and the repeatable Star Actor minigame. You cannot substitute a random street fight with an umbrella.
Build at least 4,000 Heat. With the umbrella equipped, face an enemy carrying a sword and wait for him to attack from the front. Use the Triangle Heat prompt to counter him with the stage-specific move.
Its animation is long. Perform it once for the completion entry, but don't spend the entire money attempt repeating it just because it looks good. The timer keeps making that animation expensive.
One useful time to use a Heat Action is near the end of the performance. If the timer expires during the animation, the extra 100 Ryo can help. Set it up with a little time left rather than waiting until the display hits zero and hoping the game accepts the input.
If the target still isn't registering
Check the result for one performance, not your accumulated earnings. Check that you collected the dropped money. Then check whether you were losing payouts through repeated running, rolling or damage. Those are different problems from simply needing more attack power.
Once you have the 1,000 Ryo result, the umbrella reward and the Star Actor Mastery entry, you've handled the reasons a completion run needs this activity.
