Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan!: the boss and dojo Heat Actions
These fourteen entries finish the 56-action checklist when combined with the 24 starting actions and eighteen picture revelations. Four of them come from the same counter technique but must be performed from different directions.
Don't leave the boss entries for Kyoto Tour. Those story fights aren't available there, and the three unique boss moves each have a specific opportunity.
The six boss actions
1. Dry Leaf Smash
Learn it from Wild Boar melon-cutting training at Hozoin during Chapter 8. Use a single sword against Hozoin Inshun in the story tournament and complete the prompted sequence. Save at the reception before entering. This is the only story fight where the action can register.
2. Single Stream
Complete Foundational Zeal on River Road from Chapter 9. Use a single sword against an eligible boss when the opening appears as his health falls into roughly the 30–50% range. Eligible opponents are Yoshioka Seijuro, Gion Toji, Shishido Baiken, Marume Nagayoshi and Sasaki Kojiro. Seijuro is a practical early target.
3. Firm Judgment
Complete Applied Zeal after Foundational Zeal and Wild Boar. Use a greatsword against the same five eligible bosses. Gion Toji is a useful planned target, leaving the later unique boss actions for their own fights. Keep the greatsword equipped as you bring his health down so you don't miss the opening while switching styles.
4. Two Heavens
Complete Developed Zeal during Chapter 10. Use two swords against Baiken, Marume or Kojiro at the appropriate mid-health opening. Marume is a sensible target because Baiken and Kojiro each have another action that only they can provide.
5. Escape Strike
Complete Snake training during Chapter 10 before going through the Kiyomizudera battle. Use two swords against Shishido Baiken at the end of that sequence and complete the action prompt. It needs more Heat than some of the other boss actions. Save before entering the long battle: missing it means repeating the approach if you reload.
6. Swallow Drop
Complete Asura training in the final chapter before the Kojiro duel. Use two swords against Sasaki Kojiro and follow the on-screen sequence through the final Heat Action prompt. Save before the trip. Earlier fights against other swordsmen won't register this action.
The boss actions don't all share one Heat cost. Single Stream, Firm Judgment and Escape Strike use 12,000; Two Heavens, Dry Leaf Smash and Swallow Drop use 8,000. Heat-capacity training matters. If a special sequence offers a chance to build Heat by repeating an input, use it, but don't rely on entering every boss fight with an empty gauge.
Komaki's secret techniques
The Gion Martial Arts Dojo is in southeastern Gion. Lessons depend on chapter and level. Leave and re-enter between training sessions. For these actions, fight in unarmed style afterward.
7. Sword Take
Learn the first secret technique in Chapter 6 at level 20 or higher. Trigger it against an attacking sword user. Bosses and ninja enemies don't qualify. This takes the sword from an ordinary enemy; it isn't the same action as the later Sword Reversal.
8. Bowl Crusher
Learn the second secret technique during Chapter 7 at level 25 or higher. Fight an enemy standing beside a low platform such as a bench. You need to be near that enemy and surface, rather than dragging him there as with Platform Attack Mastery. The bench area on River Road, the alley by the Gion dojo and the space outside Rakugai's kabuki theatre offer suitable scenery.
The four counter directions
Learn the third secret technique in Chapter 9 at level 32 or higher. Use it against regular enemies, not bosses. Each direction is a separate Heat Action entry:
9. Black Tortoise: the enemy attacks from in front of Kiryu.
10. Vermilion Bird: the enemy attacks from behind.
11. Azure Dragon: the enemy attacks from Kiryu's right.
12. White Tiger: the enemy attacks from Kiryu's left.
Pay attention to Kiryu's facing direction, not just which edge of the screen the attacker occupies. Turn or reposition before the attack, then use the prompt. Repeating the front counter four times won't fill the other three entries.
13. Gun Block
Learn the fourth secret technique in Chapter 11 at level 35 or higher. In unarmed style, close in on an enemy carrying a gun and trigger the action. By that stage, gunmen can appear in random encounters, so you don't have to save it exclusively for a story fight.
The final meeting between the masters
14. Sword Reversal
Complete all of Komaki's and Shibusawa's training. In the final chapter, talk to Komaki and choose the top response twice. Visit the Zanki Dojo, speak to the crowd outside, then head to Sanjusangendo for the scene that teaches this move.
To perform it, use unarmed style against a regular enemy with a real sword while Kiryu's health is below 20%. Use the guard setup as the enemy attacks and take the Heat prompt. Wooden swords and bosses don't qualify.
Because the setup requires low health, save first and carry healing. Heal after the move registers instead of continuing the rest of the fight almost dead. Don't confuse deliberately meeting this game's move requirement with a general reason to keep your health low.
After all 56 register
Check the Heat Action completion category. The extra reward technique is Deathblow – Avidya Wasteland, but you receive its unlock through clear-save play after finishing the story, not midway through the first run.
That extra technique is outside the original 56-entry target. In unarmed style, it is used near a stunned enemy with full Heat. A light two-handed object can help stun an enemy first. You don't need to somehow perform the reward move in order to earn itself.
Keep the story-clear save and your earlier backups. Kyoto Tour isn't a replacement for missing one of the unique story-boss entries.
