KENZAN! WEAPON CRAFTING: START HERE BEFORE SPENDING YOUR MATERIALS
The weapon register has 227 entries, but that does not mean 227 differently named weapons. There are 100 named weapons and 127 extra refinement grades. Every grade counts separately. You only need to obtain each once; upgrading or selling it afterward does not erase its register entry. Finishing the register rewards Dragon Armour.
The breakdown is 84 longsword entries, 54 shortsword entries, 82 greatsword entries and seven special weapons. The catalogs in this series list all 100 names and every counted refinement, with the fee for each step.
REFINING VERSUS CRAFTING
The blacksmith opens through the story at 5-13 and is available at any time of day on Rakugai's eastern street. Your equipped weapons do not break from use. Refining improves the current weapon through its available grades. Crafting turns the eligible weapon into a different named weapon, using a recipe book, ingredients and a separate fee.
Before crafting, bring a refinable base weapon all the way to Final Grade. Do the same again at every intermediate weapon in a longer chain. Weapons with no refinement grades can be direct crafting bases. At a branching weapon, use left/right to inspect the available results. Keep spare bases for different branches.
Recipe fees do not include the cost of buying the base, refining it or purchasing materials. A recipe listing the same material twice needs two copies. A missing grade in the catalog is intentional: do not pay for imaginary 3rd or 4th grades on a weapon that jumps directly to Final.
AN EARLY WATER GOD ROUTE
1. Obtain the Water God Book from locker A-2, available from story checkpoint 5-3. The actual crafting route becomes available at 5-13.
2. Buy an Unsigned Sword at the weapon shop for 2,000 Mon from 5-5. Refine to 2nd for 500, then Final for another 500.
3. Craft Biidorimaru for 3,000 Mon, one Gold Tortoiseshell and one Tengu Stone. Gold Tortoiseshell costs 500 at Rakugai's Arigataya from 5-1; Tengu Stone costs 400 at the weapon shop from 5-5.
4. Refine Biidorimaru through 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Final for 500, 600, 700 and 800 Mon.
5. Craft Water God Sword for 5,000 Mon, Water God Stone and Dragon Whisker. The stone comes from lockers F-2/A-4 or the Arena's Cliff Edge event. Dragon Whisker comes from lockers B-1/G-2, or Ecchuya for 1,500 Mon from 7-3.
6. Its Final refinement costs 1,000 Mon, giving 35 Attack, 60 Force and Super speed.
The fixed weapon/refining/crafting spend is 14,600 Mon, before materials. This route registers ten entries: three Unsigned Sword grades, five Biidorimaru grades and two Water God Sword grades.
Water God Sword gains power alongside Spring Shortsword. That partner uses a Final Unsigned Shortsword, the same Water God Book, Tengu Stone, Lust Waterfall Water and a 3,000-Mon crafting fee. Lust Waterfall Water comes from locker A-3 or repeat waterfall-training rewards. Spring's Final refinement costs 1,200 Mon.
BUILD YOUR SHOPPING LIST AROUND THE STORY
From 5-5, the weapon shop supplies Tamahagane and Tengu Stone. Superior Tamahagane arrives at 6-1; Ultimate Tamahagane at 8-1. Later chapters open more exotic shop materials, so a book obtained early does not guarantee an immediately affordable craft.
Keep locker stones and side-request materials until you know which branches need them. Some substitutes are renewable Arena prizes, while others rely on a small number of rewards. The material posts identify those alternatives rather than treating every rare stone as a random-drop grind.
COLLECTION PLANNING
Keep playing Jiraiya's training, the Arena, inventions, requests and bounties. Several weapons are rewards rather than crafts. The Peerless Sword requires all 60 abilities; Teppogiri Kanemitsu requires request 100, the Amon fight. Save before selling an apparently weak sword: some low-stat weapons are valuable crafting bases.
Complete each refinement before converting a weapon. Buying an already-refined version is convenient for combat, but obtaining only the final version does not stand in for separately obtaining its earlier grades.
