RYU GA GOTOKU KENZAN: REQUESTS 35-50
These requests bridge Chapters 6 and 7. Several begin before they can be finished, so keep track of the nighttime events and the Washi Bundle needed for the chili-pepper treatment. Chapter-stage numbers follow KHHsubs.
35. How to Make Delicious Candy
From 6-3, any time to start. Speak to the confectioner at Gion Inari and choose top through the three choices to taste his candy and accept judging duties. At night, meet him outside Tsuruya at the north end of Gion. After the contest, inspect the magistrate's mansion southwest of the save point in the Yoshioka Dojo area, also at night. Defeat the group inside. Reward: 10,000 EXP. The next story-night opportunity after starting is 7-4.
36. The Chili Pepper Girl's Father
From 6-3, day/evening, after 11. Speak to the girl near Rakugai's northeast Gion entrance and choose top to visit her father. Get his Chili Pepper Set. Complete Request 47 for the Washi material, and buy Dried Algae from the turtle seller. At Gyotensai's house in northeast Gion, invent Chili Pepper Wet Cloth, selecting Dried Algae as the mystery ingredient. Give it to the father in his eastern Rakugai home during daylight. Wait three minutes, refresh the area, then meet father and daughter at the girl's stall. Rewards: Chili Pepper Wet Cloth and 1,500 EXP. Earliest story finish: 7-5.
Complete Commission 106 before starting this if possible; an unfinished Request 36 blocks it.
37. Return of the Enthusiastic Merchant
From 6-3, day/evening, after 24. Find Tanaka near Rakugai's northwest police box. Choose top to buy the Full-Stomach Gourd for 500 Mon; Arashi Yokan is included. Walk away to inspect it, then choose top to trade the gourd. Rewards: Copper Plate and 1,500 EXP. Refusing the trade gives Finished.
38. Today's Excuse
From 6-3, any time, after 37. Approach Ikkonya on Rakugai's northern street. During the conversation with the man's wife, choose middle, bottom, top, top, middle. Rewards: Lapis Lazuli and 1,000 EXP. Two or more incorrect answers give Finished and a Tortoiseshell Hairpin instead.
39. Sujitaro 1
From 6-3, any time. Bring a food item. Speak to the woman by Rakugai's southeast exit and choose top. Find Sujitaro at the bridge on southern Mountain Road and choose top to challenge him. This is an unarmed fight, but the logs and branches remain usable. After winning, choose top and give him food. Rewards: Vermilion Hairpin and 1,000 EXP.
40. Water from the Ladle #2
From 6-3, day/evening, after 21. Return to the house just north of Rakugai's eastern save point. Choose bottom when the samurai demand money and defeat both men. Reward: 1,000 EXP. You also receive 2 Ryo if you chose bottom in Request 18. The other Request 18 choices lose only this payment, not Complete.
41. Wish-Granting Sword
From 6-3, day/evening, after 19. Find Zenjiro and his audience in the eastern-central Rakugai lane below Ikkonya. Choose top and pay 100 Mon to try the sword. Defeat Zenjiro, then the three yakuza. Rewards: Mythical Beast Tome, a weapon recipe book, and 1,500 EXP.
42. Enchanted Sword: Senraibo
From 6-3, day/evening, after 19. Speak to Keisuke and Hanaoka at the western end of Kawara Street. Walk a little east to trigger the sword seller. Choose bottom to receive the blade free rather than paying 100 Mon. Give it to either merchant, then defeat both groups of attackers as the scenes unfold. Rewards: Senraibo and 1,500 EXP. Keep the sword for Request 20.
43. Enchanted Sword: Kanekuimushi
From 6-3, day/evening, after 19. Approach the crowd on Kawara Street below the path to Koetsu's mansion. Follow Kichiemon a little east and approach him again when he confronts the thugs. Defeat the four attackers. Rewards: 3 Ryo, Kanekuimushi and 1,500 EXP. This is another Request 20 sword.
44. Demon Extermination
From 6-5, day/evening, after 13. Speak to the collapsed man by Rakugai's southeast exit. Give him a Vitality Pill: Special Grade, available at Ecchuya. Other medicines will not work. Choose bottom to help. At his southwestern Rakugai house, inspect the door's hole and choose bottom to fetch food. Buy Mugwort Dango specifically from Riverside Tea House and return. Rewards: Potted Chrysanthemum and 1,500 EXP. Refusing the food errand ends as Finished.
45. Temple School Homework: Writing
From 6-5, day/evening, after 44. Return to Mametaro on Rakugai's southern street, west of the central southward lane. Choose top to help. The five answers are middle, middle, top, bottom, middle. Reward: 1,000 EXP.
The SECOND answer must be correct for Request 53's best outcome. The other answers do not affect that later condition, although getting every answer wrong gives Finished here.
46. Messenger from the Underworld
From 6-5, any time, after 45. Speak to the fortune teller on southeastern Rakugai's main road. The conversation leads to a fight against three swordsmen. Defeat them; you do not need to pay for her protection. Rewards: Pinzoro Tag and 1,000 EXP.
47. Talent
From 7-4, night, after 39. If you started Request 21, finish it first. On Forest Road, approach the attack roughly a third of the way east from Rakugai and defeat the samurai. Choose top to escort Kamotaro, bottom to offer to paint, then top to confront Kinzo. Defeat the bodyguard again, now using swordmaster moves. Rewards: Washi Bundle #1, Washi Bundle #2 and 1,500 EXP. Preserve the bundles for Requests 36 and 97.
48. The Ghosts
From 7-4, night, after 30. Speak to the merchant at Rakugai's northwest exit and choose top. Deliver his item to Heisuke on western Kawara Street, then return the money for 100 Mon. Head toward Kawara again and investigate the scream. Speak to the injured samurai on the eastern street, then the fleeing man near the bridge. Confront Benkei on the bridge. Win three rounds: Benkei, Ushiwakamaru, then both together. Rewards: Special Shintogo and 1,500 EXP.
49. The Dream White Snake
From 7-5, day/evening, after 36. Listen to the old woman in Rakugai's central northern alley. Find the snake near the southeast road, just below the eastern save point, and choose top to catch it. Choose top to give it to the boy, then defeat the merchant and his two followers. Reward: 1,500 EXP. Visit the tea-house employee at the northern end of River Road afterward for Tri-Colour Dango.
If you decline to catch it, it moves to the southwest road, then the southern central street, before looping back. KHHsubs also documents a bug: giving it to the merchant awards three Manju and three Yaki Dango, and visiting the tea house afterward changes Finished to Complete. The boy route avoids relying on that bug.
50. The Enthusiastic Merchant Tanaka Returns Again
From 7-5, day/evening, after 38. Visit Tanaka near the northwest Rakugai police box. Choose top to buy his Telepathy Box for 500 Mon, with a European Men's Scented Sachet included. When the foreigner appears, choose top to use the box. Rewards: Portuguese Hand Mirror and 10,000 EXP. Declining to use it gives Finished and loses the mirror.
