Like a Dragon: Ishin! Mahjong Guide, Part 2: Completion, the Tournament, and Prizes This covers the 2023 remake. If you're playing for completion, the number you need is 35,000 points at the end of one game. That's your actual score before the placement bonuses get added. You start with 25,000, so you're trying to finish at least 10,000 ahead of where you started. Getting 35,000 halfway through and then losing it doesn't finish the job. Neither does ending below the target and watching a placement bonus push the results screen over it. Check the Completion List after the game. That's the number that matters here. Where to play and what to select The Mahjong Parlor is in Mukurogai, west of the boat landing. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced tables. Ordinary games require 25,000 sticks to enter. The man at the counter sells sticks, exchanges prizes, and handles the Rising Dragon Tournament. For learning, start at the beginner table. Use Kuitan on, Red Dora on, and Two-Han Minimum off. That keeps open All Simples available, lets red fives add value, and avoids requiring two han just to win. You still need a real scoring hand. Dora alone doesn't make a hand legal. If you expect to spend a while practicing, the tournament's one-time 5 ryo registration lets you keep playing without buying another ordinary-table entry each time. Getting the completion score Keep the hand closed while you're learning, unless you can point to the scoring combination that will survive a call. A quick chi can leave you with a finished-looking hand that cannot win. Once you have enough points, stop treating every hand like it has to be your biggest win. If someone declares riichi and your own hand is still a mess, consider defending. A tile that player has already discarded is safe against their ron. That doesn't make it safe against the other two players, and it doesn't stop a self-draw win. For example, suppose you're sitting at 37,000 and someone declares riichi while you still need several useful draws. Feeding them a large hand can erase your progress. Discarding a tile you know they cannot ron may be worth breaking up your own unfinished hand. If you finish at 34,000, the next game's points don't stack on top. It has to be one completed game. There's no requirement to collect every rare hand before you can clear this entry. The results screen Placement adjustments can make the final payout look much larger than the score you were watching during play. For completion, ignore that payout and use your actual end-of-game score. Moving to a stronger table just to chase a larger placement bonus will not solve this requirement. Rising Dragon Tournament You start at rank 30. Most matches put you against the two players immediately above you and the one below you. Finishing first normally moves you up two places, second moves you up one, third leaves you where you are, and fourth drops you one. The grouping changes at the ends of the ladder. The tournament uses Half Game, Kuitan on, Two-Han Minimum off, and Red Dora on. Its prizes are awarded at these ranks: • 25: Carved Wooden Bear. • 20: Silver Plate. • 15: Golden Medicine Case. • 10: Training Daifuku. • 5: Gold Plate. • 3: Platinum Plate. • 1: Golden Statue. The statue sells for 25 ryo. These are rank rewards, not prizes you can keep collecting every time you return to the same position. Climb the ladder if you enjoy the game or want the rewards. Don't confuse reaching first place with the separate completion score. Prize exchange Your ordinary scoring sticks can buy: • Iron Plate: 100. • Ointment: 300. • Doburoku: 800. • Bronze Plate: 1,000. • Silver Plate: 13,000. • Gold Plate: 100,000. • Platinum Plate: 150,000. Leave enough sticks for another game before exchanging everything. Also visit the exit between games to advance the parlor owner's friendship events. Playing repeatedly without leaving can keep you from seeing the next conversation. The things to check before moving on are the 35,000-point completion entry and the owner's bond. The tournament ladder and its prizes are there if you want to keep going.
