Like a Dragon: Ishin! Mibu, the farmhouse, and the road to Kiyomizu: substories 60–66
These seven entries take you outside the main shopping districts. Bring healing items, keep a few vegetables in your inventory, and don't sell every meal you cook. That covers several of the requests before you've even reached them.
60. It's What's on the Inside
Available in Chapter 5. In Mibu, head west from the tea parlor and through the little gate to see the scene with Aguri. Speak to him back at the tea parlor afterward.
Next, go to Rakunai's bridge to Gion and down to the riverbank on its western side to meet the woman. When talking to Aguri, choose “Have faith in Suzu.” Return to Mibu and head to the shrine at the western end for the fight against Ikesugi and his men.
You receive a Gion Hood and 400 Virtue. Speak to Aguri again by the tea parlor afterward to recruit him as a Trooper Card. Don't skip that final conversation if you're collecting recruits.
61. Hope Blossoms Again
Available in Chapter 4. In western Mibu, approach the house near the shrine where a dog is barking. This one includes a cruel scene involving the dog, so be aware of that before starting it.
Defeat the samurai, then help the elderly couple find a cherry blossom tree. You already have the tree you need at the Another Life farmhouse. Take the boat home from Fushimi and inspect the tree in the yard beside the Jizo statue. Return to the couple in Mibu to finish their request.
The reward is a Double Worship Talisman and 350 Virtue. You need to inspect the tree, not simply visit the farm and leave again.
62. A Warlord's Ambition
This starts at the Another Life farmhouse after you've spent time cooking. Cook at least ten meals, then check inside the house for the visitor. If he hasn't appeared yet, continue the main story into Chapter 5 and return.
You're asked to prepare fish for an important guest. The ingredients are supplied, so you don't need to go fishing first. The cooking sequence uses salmon, sea bream, and sweetfish.
Watch the fish and use the cooking prompt when the sparks appear. Each fish cooks at a different pace. Sweetfish is especially quick, so don't repeat the timing you used for the previous fish without watching it.
Good cooking earns a Dragon's Whisker. A poor result can still complete the substory, but gives a lesser reward. Make a separate save before the visit if you want to retry for the better material.
63. The Boy Who Cried Bear
Available in Chapter 5 after completing It's What's on the Inside, number 60. Go to the far western end of Mibu, by the shrine, and approach the child and adult.
The conversation leads straight into a bear fight. Heal and stock up before approaching them rather than waiting until it has already started. The bear hits hard at close range. Use the pistol while you have room, move when it closes the distance, and avoid committing to a long combination that leaves you standing in front of its next attack.
Defeating it earns an Inviting Hat and 350 Virtue. The hat is useful while clearing the remaining substories because it helps reveal their locations. It still won't make every prerequisite disappear; an entry that needs an earlier quest or more story progress has to be unlocked first.
64. Mama Ryoma
Available in Chapter 4. Find the three children along the lower road in eastern Mibu and agree to play house with them.
You don't need a particular set of answers to complete this. If you want the friendly choices, use “Vegetables, potatoes, and tofu” and “How was work?” Follow the situation to the girl's house and defeat the men causing trouble.
Finish the scene for 350 Virtue. This is a short substory, but don't walk away as soon as the children's game ends. The trouble at the house is still part of it.
65. The Amnesiac
Available in Chapter 4 on the forest road to Kiyomizu Temple. Look for the collapsed man and give him medicine.
That completes the first encounter, gives a Dead Branch and 150 Virtue, and starts his friendship. You can return to treat him again on later visits. Keep some inexpensive medicine for these encounters instead of spending a valuable recovery item just to open the relationship.
The initial request and the completed friendship are separate, so check the friendship gauge if you're clearing the Diligence Record.
66. The Boy Who Loves Veggies
Available in Chapter 4 after Another Life unlocks. Find the crying boy near the eastern entrance to Mibu, along the lower road. Give him a vegetable to complete the substory and receive 150 Virtue.
Continue visiting with vegetables to develop the friendship. Eventually he wants a prepared vegetable dish rather than another raw crop. In the English remake, that's Refreshing Vegetable Salad.
The salad needs two turnips, two eggplants, two onions, two carrots, and three spinach, along with the appropriate kitchen upgrade. Grow the ingredients at the farmhouse and cook the dish there. Keep it in your inventory for him instead of eating it or filling a trade order with it.
That final cooked meal belongs to the friendship follow-up. If you're only looking at the substory list, you'll have seen the completion mark well before reaching it.
