Like a Dragon: Ishin! (2023): All Eight Mukurogai Substories
Mukurogai's substory list runs from 29 to 36. You'll also visit it during quests that start elsewhere, but those stay under their original district in the menu.
29. THE BAD SIDE OF TOWN
From Chapter 3, walk north through the lower level near the Arms Dealer. The group that confronts you starts the encounter automatically. Defeat them for 250 Virtue. There's no special dialogue puzzle or item to bring.
30. BRAWLER FOR HIRE
Finish Ee Ja Nai for Justice, substory 7, first. Then, from Chapter 3, speak to Sumi Bozu beside the white brawler banner on Mukurogai's lower level. The encounter turns into a fight. Win for 300 Virtue.
He uses a spear, so don't treat the word “brawler” as a promise that this is an unarmed opponent. Keep outside its reach with Gunman, or move in after he commits to a swing and get back out before the next one.
31. BRAWLER INCARNATE
Chapter 6, after 30. Return to Sumi Bozu at the same banner for a rematch. His attacks hit harder, so bring healing and don't assume your first victory makes this automatic. Win for 350 Virtue.
32. BRAWLER ENLIGHTENED
Chapter 10, after 31. Sumi Bozu returns at the same location for the final fight. Beat him for a Berserker Charm and 400 Virtue.
The chapter gates matter here. If you've beaten him once and he has nothing new for you, repeatedly leaving and coming back won't replace reaching the next required chapter.
33. NIGHT OF THE LIVING RUMOR
Chapter 7. Head toward the eastern riverbank and listen to the men discussing a ghost. Return to the same area at night and defeat the apparent fallen warrior. The reward is a Nishikigoi Amulet and 350 Virtue.
The encounter may initially use the name Fallen Warrior's Ghost, so don't mistake it for a separate missing quest. When the story permits changing time, rest in your room at Teradaya and return after dark. Bring healing; the opponent is more dangerous than the ordinary men wandering the streets.
34. THE SERVILE BEGGAR
From Chapter 3, find the seated man under the covered area on the lower level, east of the Arms Dealer near the Rakugai entrance. Give him a food item to complete the substory for 150 Virtue and start his bond.
The later friendship needs more visits. If he disappears after you've been helping him, look in East Umekojicho in Rakugai for his follow-up instead of assuming the quest broke.
35. THE TRASH DEALER
Chapter 4, after Another Life. Find the man in the lower level's northwestern corner near the large gate. Give him an unwanted item to finish the substory and start the bond. Reward: 150 Virtue.
Use something common. There's no reason to hand over a rare crafting material just because it happens to be at the top of your inventory. His remaining friendship progress comes from later gifts and encounters.
36. THE INJURED DOG
Chapter 4, after Another Life. Look for the injured dog lying on the ground in Mukurogai's lower-level street area. Give it medicine; an ordinary healing item works. That first treatment finishes the substory for 150 Virtue and opens its bond.
Keep returning to help if you want to adopt it. There are later story events and a confrontation before the animal comes home, so the initial treatment isn't the completed adoption.
For a district cleanup, check all eight numbers in the substory menu. For the larger completion run, keep working on the beggar, dealer and dog after their first entries are checked off. Those friendships aren't finished by clearing these eight substories alone.
