Like a Dragon: Ishin! (2023): farming, every crop and paying Haruka's debt
Another Life opens during Chapter 4, when Ryoma agrees to help Haruka keep her home. The debt is 100 ryo, paid in five installments of 20. There isn't a deadline, so you can work on it alongside the story.
Start filling Trade Orders from the cabinet inside the house. These orders are what trigger the landlord's payment letters. When a letter arrives, read it and return to Fushimi. The landlord waits by the shrine in the northeast corner, north of Komaki's dojo and Teradaya.
You can use money earned elsewhere to make the payments. What you can't do is skip the order system altogether and expect the payment requests to appear just because you already have 100 ryo. Keep doing orders, keep enough cash for the next installment and check for the courier when you leave the house.
Working the farm
Use the tool shed beside the field to open Farm Management. Farming Plan lets you place the crops you have unlocked. Each crop takes up a particular rectangle of land. Rotate it to fit the space, and move existing crops instead of deleting them if all you need is a different arrangement. Deleting a crop throws away its growth progress.
Harvest All collects everything that's ready without removing crops that are still growing. Crops continue growing while you're away in town, so there's no need to stand beside the field waiting.
Carry fertilizer in your inventory if you want to use Scatter Manure. Fertilizer sitting in storage won't work for that action. It advances growth, but doesn't turn every crop into an instant harvest. Use the farming screen's progress indicators to see what's ready.
Your starting crops are potatoes, carrots, daikon, spinach and cucumbers. The other crops are permanent Virtue unlocks from the shrine; you aren't buying individual seed packets every time you plant.
Every crop's footprint
Use these sizes when planning the field. The rectangles can be rotated.
• Potato: 1×1, fast.
• Carrot: 1×2, fast.
• Daikon: 1×2, fast.
• Sweet potato: 1×4, fast.
• Green onion: 1×5, normal.
• Ginger: 1×3, normal.
• Onion: 1×3, normal.
• Spinach: 1×2, fast.
• Cucumber: 2×3, fast.
• Eggplant: 2×4, normal.
• Turnip: 1×1, normal.
• Broad bean: 2×4, fast.
• Burdock root: 1×2, normal.
• Hot pepper: 3×3, normal.
• Garlic: 4×4, normal.
• Bok choy: 1×3, slow.
• Pumpkin: 2×2, slow.
• Tomato: 3×5, slow.
• Cabbage: 1×4, slow.
• Strawberry: 2×2, slow.
• Taro: 1×5, slow.
• Ginseng: 1×1, slow.
Ginseng's tiny footprint doesn't mean it grows quickly. Plant it before heading out for other work. For orders and cooking, a mixed field is more useful than filling every square with one expensive crop and then having none of the ordinary ingredients you need.
Farm upgrades
Farm Expansion buys more space. Its four purchases cost 500, 1,500, 4,000 and 10,000 Virtue, giving you fields of 5×4, 5×6, 5×8 and 5×10 respectively.
Farm Level improves cultivation speed and harvests. Levels 2–5 cost 1,500, 4,000, 8,000 and 12,000 Virtue. Scarecrow levels 1–5 reduce crop damage and cost 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, 6,000 and 12,000.
Spontaneous Farming costs 1,500 and plants for you, but you lose control over which crops it chooses. Pick crops yourself when you're trying to fill particular orders.
Get enough space to fit what you need, then buy the corresponding crop unlocks. Leave decorative house upgrades until the farm is producing reliably if money and Virtue are still tight.
Household jobs worth doing while you're here
Purchase the Chicken Coop to start collecting eggs. Check it on return trips. Dogs can leave items in the yard, and cats can bring extra rewards from trading. Their housing upgrades improve those benefits, but the animals themselves come from completing their respective friendships in town.
Haruka's trust rises as you work around the farm. Her scenes are separate completion tasks: leaving the farm gives the first, while the later ones involve the bath, the living-area table and the bed. The bed scene needs nighttime as well as enough trust. If nothing happens yet, keep working and return later.
Paying off the debt isn't the same as finishing all Another Life completion. You still need every crop, fish and recipe, all six adopted animals, the trust scenes and the trading requirement, plus the cumulative Diligence Records. Keep the house running after the final payment if you're working toward 100%.
