Like a Dragon: Ishin! (2023): planning a platinum and 100% run
This is for the 2023 remake. If you're playing the Japanese 2014 release, don't use its requirements interchangeably with these.
The platinum takes considerably more work than finishing the story. You have to clear the Completion List and the separate Diligence Records, then finish the other trophy requirements. A minigame trophy popping doesn't necessarily mean you've finished that minigame for 100%.
Start with the story, but keep several manual saves. Nothing on the trophy list is permanently missable, and Premium Adventure lets you finish side content afterward. Still, a save before the finale is useful. In Chapter 14, save before speaking to Okita at the Shinsengumi Barracks to begin the final sequence.
Legend of an Era doesn't require a whole playthrough on Legend. You can switch to Legend before that final sequence and finish it on that setting. If you'd rather complete the story on your usual difficulty first, keep that earlier save and come back when you're ready. Finishing the story also opens Ultimate Challenges on the main menu; those are separate from your regular adventure and all need clearing.
What to start doing early
Once Chapter 2 introduces Virtue and the Diligence Records, make a habit of checking pots, praying at shrines and drawing water from wells. Those are easy to ignore until they're the only things left. Chapter 1 activity doesn't count toward the records before their introduction.
The final cumulative targets include 100 pot items, 100 shrine or jizo prayers and 50 draws from wells. There are wells near the Rakugai Arms Dealer, outside the Rakunai shrine and behind Shinsengumi HQ. Check them while you're already passing through rather than planning one long collection session later.
Buy meals separately when you're filling restaurant menus, because the restaurant-visits target counts transactions. The Diligence Record eventually wants 200 restaurant visits. It also wants 400 food items eaten from your inventory and 200 medicinal items used. You don't need to burn through those immediately, but knowing the distinction saves confusion later.
The two completion menus
The Completion List covers substories, minigames, Another Life, restaurant meals, Heat Actions, equipment, masters, Wanted Men, Battle Dungeons and the arena.
Another Life completion means growing every crop, catching every fish, cooking every meal, earning 100 ryo through orders, adopting all six pets and seeing Haruka's four scenes. The records also have cumulative totals, so merely collecting one of each isn't the end of the farm work.
Equipment is another important distinction: you must smith each craftable piece. Picking the same weapon up as a drop doesn't tick off its crafting requirement. Required seals must actually be applied through enhancement; having them sitting in your inventory isn't enough. The Kiwami seals are excluded from that seal checklist.
For the arena Completion List, beat every opponent in Knockout matches. Hundred Man Beatdown isn't required for that particular section. Collect completion rewards from Bakumatsu Bob in the kitchen on the right side of Teradaya.
Other trophy checks
Before calling the run finished, check these separately:
• Complete the character-level breakthrough, which requires Level 99 and completed training with Komaki, Ginryu and William Bradley.
• View every Revelation.
• Apply 100 seals in total.
• Defeat 100 enemies with Special Moves. These are the R2/RT moves, not just any Heat Action.
• Collect 100 Trooper Cards.
• Finish every friendship and pay off Haruka's debt.
• Change the house's interior decoration.
• Earn 10 ryo cumulatively working at the udon shop.
• Perform every singing-bar song and Buyo dance, try every minigame and gambling game, place bets on five chicken races, and complete the three courtesan games.
Several of these will happen while you pursue the bigger completion requirements. The list is useful for catching the ones that don't.
After the credits
Choose Bakumatsu Premium Adventure and import your clear data. That keeps your progress for cleanup. Don't accidentally start it without clear data: that's a fresh free-roam start, not your completed character.
New Game Plus is different. It carries equipment, money, levels, abilities and several completion categories forward, but resets substories, Diligence Records, training-master progress, Wanted Men, Battle Dungeons, pets and Haruka's trust scenes. If your goal is finishing the current checklist, stay in Premium Adventure.
Keep the finale save, the clear save and your cleanup save separate. That gives you a route back to the final fights without sacrificing the side work you've already finished.
This is the route through the overall completion requirements. Individual substory solutions, item locations, crafting materials and minigame targets need their own guides, rather than squeezing them into a checklist and pretending that explains how to do everything.
