The Kaito Files: every masked warrior and the final challenge
Escaping a Daydream requires four masked warriors. Three roam Kamurocho. The fourth is the Blood-Drunk Master on the Kamuro Theater rooftop, reached through Letter of Challenge.
This is Kaito's optional boss chain. Yagami's Amon battle does not satisfy it.
1. Obtain and equip the Bloody Crest
Use Primal Ear on the cat atop the vending machine just east of the Yagami Detective Agency entrance. Equip the Bloody Crest in an accessory slot.
Do not substitute a Matsugane Family Crest. Those twenty collectibles are for the SP-skill progression, not the same accessory.
Look for isolated purple enemy markers while moving through Kamurocho. They are strong encounters, not guaranteed spawns at a single fixed street corner. Save and stock up before approaching one.
2. Defeat all three roaming variants
Bloodthirsty Strongman
What to expect: Fast knife fighter.
Practical approach: Avoid chasing every sidestep with a long combo. Use weapons or upgraded counters and punish recovery.
Bloodstained Bludgeoner
What to expect: Heavy steel-pipe attacks.
Practical approach: Let swings finish. Nearby objects give Tank reach without walking straight into the pipe.
Blood-seeking Hero
What to expect: Unarmed powerhouse with dangerous grapples.
Practical approach: Keep moving outside grab range and bring furniture into the fight when available.
The tougher variants appear as you defeat strong enemies. SP rewards vary with your Gifted Brawler upgrades and battle bonuses, so treat figures from other people's runs as examples rather than a guaranteed payout. Defeat each of the three named variants.
Nouveau Riche encounters are not a replacement for a missing masked warrior. If the skill remains locked, inspect its remaining condition rather than assuming every unusual street enemy counts.
An efficient weapon sequence is a few normal hits, then an EX Action before the object breaks. Use Mortal Reversal opportunities when they appear. Heal before a follow-up can finish Kaito, and run away from an encounter you are not ready for.
3. Finish the other 70 skills
This means all eleven memories, the three books, all twenty cats, all twenty Matsugane crests, the seven ten-count battle gates, the ordinary prerequisite chains and enough SP to purchase everything.
The late book is Disguise Fundamentals, sold at Ebisu Pawn for ¥50,000 in the final Chapter 4 free-roam window. Buy Master of Disguise afterward.
With the Bloody Crest still equipped, purchase Letter of Challenge for 40,000 SP. That brings the skill checklist to 71 and opens the rooftop encounter. Merely having the skill available does not summon the boss.
4. Prepare for the Blood-Drunk Master
Keep a manual save in the final free-roam window, before taking the last taxi out of Kamurocho. There is no Premium Adventure after the ending. Bring a substantial healing inventory and equipment suited to surviving blade damage and bleeding. Useful collection rewards include Dragon's Binding and Demonic Fundoshi; check Ebisu Pawn's Wisdom King's Talisman as another defensive option.
If you use the alcohol/EX setup, bring Sake. By this point you will have learned Heavy Drinker, Alcohol Aficionado, both Drunken Warrior upgrades and Iron Liver as part of the all-skill requirement. Keep the Bloody Crest equipped when you head up to the rooftop, with your other accessory slot available for defensive gear.
Enter Kamuro Theater and take the lift to the rooftop garden.
5. Fight the rooftop boss
The Blood-Drunk Master has ten health bars, claw attacks, evasive movement and thrown knives. Bleeding makes repeated small hits dangerous even when one individual hit looks manageable.
Two workable approaches:
- Bruiser: time Light Attack just before a hit lands to use Repel, then answer with a short combo. When EX is ready, use EX Boost's Heavy combo. Stop pursuing if his movement has put you at a bad angle.
- Tank: use the roof's chairs, tables and plants as weapons. Save part of that area instead of accidentally smashing the entire supply at once. Spend weapon EX Actions before durability runs out, then obtain another object.
Drop the weapon when you need the normal reversal response. Avoid the backward jump and thrown knives rather than running directly after him. Check health and bleeding between exchanges. Heal before bleeding and another hit can finish you.
This fight has no final QTE. Win the fight to earn Escaping a Daydream. Save afterward and replenish everything before the separate final story confrontation.
