Goro Goro Kitchen: every recipe and what you need to unlock it
All right, cooking in Pirate Yakuza is worth keeping up with because you're making more than healing items. Some recipes help Majima, some feed the crew, and one feeds the animals back on Rich Island. If you're trying to finish the recipe list, there are 14 dishes to account for.
Start at a cooking spot on Rich Island. Later, you can use the kitchen at Revolve or the Goromaru's kitchen once the ship upgrade opens it. Cooking raises your Chef Level. Pirate Rank doesn't replace that requirement, and several recipes need something other than a Chef Level before they'll appear.
The ingredient amounts below are for ONE dish. Making two or three multiplies the ingredients. Byproducts means the eggs-and-milk category, not random crafting materials.
The regular recipes
• Roughly-Chopped Stir-Fried Veggie Bento: available from the beginning. Use 3 produce. Restores health. Fire and chopping.
• Fish-Toss Hot Pot Bento: Chef Level 2. Use 2 fish. Restores Heat. Chopping and skimming.
• Wild Stewed Meat Bento: Chef Level 4. Use 1 meat. Restores health and Heat. Fire and skimming.
• Chef's Whimsy Bento: Chef Level 6. Use 1 meat and 2 fish. Restores health. All three cooking stages.
• Goro Goro Luxury Party Platter: Chef Level 9. Use 2 insects and 2 produce. Restores Heat. Fire and chopping.
• Goro Goro Special Hot Pot Meal: Chef Level 12. Use 2 insects and 2 fish. Restores health and Heat. Chopping and skimming.
• Goro Goro Special Steak Meal: Chef Level 18. Use 2 meat, 3 produce and 3 byproducts. Restores health and Heat.
• Goro Goro Supreme Pot Luck Hot Pot: Chef Level 21. Use 2 meat, plus 3 EACH of insects, fish, produce and byproducts. Restores health and Heat. All three stages.
The other unlocks
• Goro Goro Awakening Beer: unlock the Goro Goro Booze Master ability. Use 4 insects and 4 byproducts. This raises Madness and drunkenness. It isn't another ordinary healing meal.
• Pirate Party Stew: unlock the upgraded ship's kitchen. Use 3 fish and 3 produce. Raises the crew's morale.
• Avast! Pirate Party Hell Stew: Chef Level 15, with the ship kitchen available. Use 2 meat, 3 insects and 3 byproducts. Another crew-morale recipe.
• Pirate Meal for Five: unlock the ship kitchen. Use 3 meat, 5 insects, 5 fish and 5 produce. Gives morale and experience to five crewmates.
• Pirate Meal for Ten: Chef Level 24, with the ship kitchen available. Use 5 meat and 10 EACH of insects, fish, produce and byproducts. Gives morale and experience to ten crewmates.
• Essence of Pet Snacks: return to Goro Kingdom on Rich Island and trigger the snack introduction with Noah as you progress the ship and animal collection. Use 3 meat and 5 EACH of insects, fish, produce and byproducts. Put the finished snacks in the Kingdom's snack container to feed the animals together. If the recipe hasn't appeared, keep rescuing the remaining animals and revisit the Kingdom. It isn't a Chef Level unlock.
Getting better results
You can cook up to three portions together, but that makes the button challenges harder. If you're struggling to make good food, try one portion first. Check the Expected Result meter when choosing ingredients: better-quality ingredients help, and your performance during cooking improves the result further.
For the fire, hold the button and release in the red zone. For chopping, follow the displayed sequence rather than mashing. For skimming, lift the ladle between separated patches instead of dragging it slowly through the pot.
Keep ingredients coming in while you explore and shop. Feeding the animals also brings ingredients back: higher friendship improves what they give, and better food improves the quantity. That makes returning to the Kingdom useful beyond just collecting pets.
For completion, work through the Chef Level recipes, unlock Booze Master, open the ship kitchen, and revisit Goro Kingdom for the snacks. Then check that you've actually cooked each recipe. Seeing it in the menu and making it are two different things.
Where to get the ingredients
Recipes ask for ingredient categories, so you don't need a particular species of fish or bug to cook every dish. Use what you have in the required category, then check the Expected Result meter before committing your rare ingredients. The stars below are ingredient quality, not Chef Level requirements.
Meat
• Rabbit Meat, 1★: buy it from Stella's Shop on Rich Island. In Honolulu, Pigeon Family Market on Aloha Street also sells it. Goro gives Rabbit Meat at low affection in Goro Kingdom.
• Pheasant Meat, 2★: keep feeding Goro in the Kingdom. It replaces Rabbit Meat as his affection improves. Enemy ships can also drop meat, and Goro sometimes brings Pheasant Meat while travelling with you.
• Bear Meat, 3★: Goro's highest-affection ingredient reward. Fill his affection gauge, then speak to him for a separate one-time gift of 50 Bear Meat. Enemy ships are another possible source, but feeding Goro gives you a repeatable route to work toward.
Fish
For purchases, swim out from Aloha Beach to Nolan's Boat, off Honolulu's southern coast. He sells the first six fish below. This is a different merchant from Grayson's Weapons at Sea.
• Flounder, 1★: Nolan's Boat or Stella's Shop. Barkley, Turtle, Zoomies and The Gourmand give it at low affection.
• Aweoweo, 1★: Nolan's Boat or Seaworthy Treasures, at Waikiki Street and Momo Street. Onigiri and Allure give it at low affection.
• Scorpionfish, 1★: Nolan's Boat or The Sea Bell in Madlantis.
• Salmon, 2★: Nolan's Boat, or the four Kingdom dogs once their affection improves.
• Humuhumunukunukuāpua'a, 2★: Nolan's Boat, or Onigiri and Allure at their middle reward tier.
• Tiger Puffer, 2★: Nolan's Boat.
• Bluefin Tuna, 3★: catch it with the Chain Hook. This is a fishing ingredient rather than something to buy from Nolan's regular stock. Catches vary, so it may take several attempts.
• Mahi Mahi, 3★: the four Kingdom dogs at high affection, or fishing in Madlantis waters.
• Oarfish, 3★: Onigiri and Allure at high affection, or fishing in Madlantis waters.
Once you have the Chain Hook, aim at visible fish from the shore. The river below Aloha Bridge is an easy place to start collecting fish. You can also swim out from Aloha Beach and dive near fish. Neither method guarantees a particular species on each attempt.
For extra supplies while sailing, fit a Fishing Net to the Goromaru in a safe area. Sail the distance shown, then collect the catch when you're back in a safe area. Fishing openings on both sides of the ship give you another place to catch fish.
Bugs
Wan Shang Tong Herbal Medicine, on Lantern Street in Chinatown, sells these ordinary 1★ ingredients: Rhinoceros Beetle, Dragonfly, Butterfly, Grasshopper, Moth and Spider. It also sells the 3★ Golden Dragonfly for $498. That is useful when you need one immediately, especially for Bug Professor Louis, but expensive for routine cooking.
For gathering, use the Chain Hook. You receive it through Chapter 2's story visit to Julie. The ingredient list and places to look are:
• Rhinoceros Beetle, 1★; Silver Rhinoceros Beetle, 2★; Golden Rhinoceros Beetle, 3★: bugs on trees on Rich Island.
• Dragonfly, 1★; Silver Dragonfly, 2★; Golden Dragonfly, 3★: flying bugs. Search Rich Island, or Honolulu's waterside spots described below.
• Butterfly, 1★; Silver Butterfly, 2★; Golden Butterfly, 3★: flying bugs around Honolulu.
• Grasshopper, 1★; Silver Grasshopper, 2★: hopping bugs around Honolulu. For Golden Grasshopper, 3★, search hopping bugs on Rich Island.
• Moth, 1★; Silver Moth, 2★; Golden Moth, 3★: flying bugs in Madlantis.
• Spider, 1★; Silver Spider, 2★: wriggling ground bugs in Madlantis.
• Big C, 1★: use the hook on wriggling ground bugs.
• Tsuchinoko, 3★: another possible wriggling-bug catch. Goro can also bring one as a gift while accompanying you.
For dragonflies in Honolulu, check the lake in Anaconda Harbor Park, Riverside Walk around Aloha Bridge, and the water beside Sakura Street in Little Japan. Catch the insects you find rather than waiting for an obvious golden model. The rare variants are random catches.
Ben's Funky Wagon is also worth checking when you see the roaming seller in Chinatown. His stock can include Silver and Golden Rhinoceros Beetles, but don't plan a shopping trip around a guaranteed supply.
Goro's travelling gifts are separate from feeding him at the Kingdom. He can bring rare insects while you're out exploring. Treat those as a bonus rather than standing around waiting for one specific bug.
Produce
Golden Grace Greengrocer has several stalls in Chinatown, around Lantern Street and the Passion and Fruit Market. Check the separate sellers: one counter doesn't represent the whole market. Kau Wela Market in Anaconda Harbor Park is another produce stop.
• Herb, 1★: grow Herb Seeds, or buy harvested herbs from Golden Grace Greengrocer or Kau Wela Market.
• Coconut, 1★: pull hanging fruit from palm trees with the Chain Hook, buy from the produce markets, or feed CoCo at low affection.
• Potato, 1★: grow Potato Seedlings, or buy harvested potatoes from Golden Grace Greengrocer.
• Quality Mango, 2★: Golden Grace Greengrocer, or CoCo's middle affection tier.
• Quality Onion, 2★: grow Quality Onion Seedlings, or check Golden Grace Greengrocer and Kau Wela Market.
• Quality Garlic, 2★: grow Quality Garlic Seedlings, or check Kau Wela Market and Golden Grace Greengrocer.
• Superb Pineapple, 3★: Golden Grace Greengrocer, or CoCo at high affection.
• Superb Fruit, 3★: grow Superb Seeds. Kau Wela Market can also stock it, and Goro may bring it while exploring.
To grow your own, buy seeds and seedlings from Melia's Leis and Flowers on Downtown Street, or collect seed pickups from grass and plants. Use a planter, then return when the crop is ready. The map's planter icons show growing status. Rich Island introduces this during Chapter 1, and the upgraded Goromaru has planters near the stern.
Melia's planting supplies are:
• Herb Seeds: $6, producing Herb.
• Potato Seedlings: $6, producing Potato.
• Quality Onion Seedlings: $12, producing Quality Onion.
• Quality Garlic Seedlings: $12, producing Quality Garlic.
• Superb Seeds: $30, producing Superb Fruit.
Seeds aren't ready-to-use ingredients. Plant them first. Shop stocks are limited, so mix purchases with harvesting and animal rewards instead of expecting one seller to provide an unlimited stack.
Eggs and milk
These fill the byproducts category in the recipe list.
• Egg, 1★: Stella's Shop, Pigeon Family Market or Seaworthy Treasures. Phoenix and Alarm Cluck also give eggs at low affection.
• Quality Egg, 2★: Phoenix and Alarm Cluck at their middle affection tier.
• Golden Egg, 3★: Phoenix and Alarm Cluck at high affection.
• Fresh Milk, 1★: Stella's Shop, Pigeon Family Market, Seaworthy Treasures or Wink Mini Mart on Waikiki Street. Sanzen also provides it at low affection.
• Quality Fresh Milk, 2★: Sanzen's middle affection tier.
• Superb Fresh Milk, 3★: Sanzen at high affection.
Feed the animals whenever you return to Rich Island. Better affection improves their ingredient tier, while better food improves the quantity. Once Essence of Pet Snacks is available, using the Snack Box lets you collect ingredients from the whole Kingdom in one visit.
A practical restocking routine
For basic meals, stock up on Rabbit Meat, fish, eggs and milk at Stella's, then harvest your planters. In Honolulu, combine a Chinatown trip for bugs, produce and seeds with a visit to Nolan for fish. Keep the Kingdom animals fed so the higher-quality meat, fish, fruit, eggs and milk start coming in regularly.
When sailing, Porin Island near Rich Island and Hau'oli Island near Hawaii are peaceful gathering stops with fruit, bugs and fish. Check your ship's net and planters between trips. That gives you several ways to refill each category without relying on one rare drop.
