Infinite Wealth: The Mall, the Movie Shoots, and the Giant Vacuum Problem
Continuing the substory walkthrough, this covers #20 through #36. Most of this group starts around Chapter 4, but don't assume that means every fight is balanced for the level you were at when Chapter 4 opened. The vacuum encounters are a good example. Save first, check your equipment, and come back later if you're getting flattened.
20. A Better Bat
Automatic in Chapter 4. Visit Julie's Gearworks as directed by the main story and complete the bat-crafting introduction. The workshop's later investments and Julie's relationship event are separate from this opening substory.
21. Playing With Fire
Approach the fire-dancing crowd outside Ounabara Vocational School in the Cultural District. Follow the introduction and pass the trial exam. This unlocks the school; you don't have to pass every course to finish this particular event.
22. Rise and Grind
At Cafe Soramame on Anaconda Boulevard, intervene when the worker is being bothered and win the fight. Leave, return for the next scene, then head to the marker near Hyper Ecstasy on Twilight Drive. Beat the reporter's group. Remember the name Sorata when asked, then finish the remaining conversation.
23. The More the Plumeria
First inspect the flowering trees in Sunset Park and Anaconda Harbor Park. Those little scenes are prerequisites, not a broken quest disappearing from the map. Next visit the arguing pair around Momo Street and Waikiki Street, then speak to the girl farther along Waikiki Street.
Agree to help. Visit the Harbor Street flowers and win the fight, then collect flowers from the other park. Meet Aina at Art Walls for the conclusion. If you're doing this early, avoid picking fights with the stronger ordinary enemies around that part of town.
24. Let It Snow
Start at Mohala Shave Ice on Aloha Street, then find the older man on Momo Street and agree to help. Go to the ground-floor event in Anaconda Shopping Center. Catch the runaway stroller, finish the fight, then meet the man at the marked Seaside Avenue location to wrap things up.
25. Embrace Your Wild Side
Find Matt at the second-floor stage in Anaconda Shopping Center. Continue at Worldwide Market Village, then return to the mall and deal with the men bothering him. Follow the next scene around River Street near Fancy Cookies.
From there, visit the boy and his mother in the northeastern part of Honolulu, speak to him on the bench, then find Matt at the northwestern pawnshop. Finally meet the boy at Aloha Beach and agree to attend the concert. This one crosses quite a bit of the map, so use the changing substory marker to keep track of which meeting you're on.
26. Anaconda Escape
Speak to the television crew on the shopping center's second floor and enter the escape challenge. Your destination is the far escalator, but solve the optional tasks before leaving if you want the better prize. Battles cost time, so slip around the patrols whenever possible.
The first laptop answer is “True”: Treasure Select Pawn is on the second floor. The other answer is “A Hat Shop” for Thorstone. Use 8931 on the red chest. Pick up the blue key near a bench in the connecting corridor and open the blue chest near the exit. Then take the escalator out. Leaving early still ends the substory, but it forfeits the extra objectives and better reward.
27. The Pursuit of Realism
Approach the argument at Riverside Walk and River Street near the mall, beat the men, and agree to work with the director. Finish the traffic-dodging stunt. You can adjust speed as well as change lanes: pushing forward speeds Ichiban up, while pulling back slows him down. Read the gaps ahead instead of waiting until a car is right on top of you.
28. An Authentic Blockbuster
Finish both #15 and #27, then meet the director beside Makani Coffee in Sunset Park. Choose Bony Kashiwa when recalling the other director's name. Agree to the shoot and finish the truck-dodging course.
This uses the same basic movement as the earlier stunt, but the trucks leave less room. After failed attempts, you can accept an easier version for a smaller reward. Finish the original version for the Modified Rocket Launcher. If you postponed the shoot, meet the crew near the shopping center's southeastern exterior.
29. Litterbugged
Meet Professor Okita near Sunset Street's trolley stop outside Anaconda Shopping Center. Fund the project with $3,000, then respond to his follow-up and visit the docks. Help classify the displayed objects as trash or usable items. Leave and return when the next event appears.
The last step is a level-27 Sojimaru fight. Take out its side units and keep the party healed rather than treating it like a harmless conversation quest. The initial money donation does not finish the substory.
30. Close Encounters of the Bird Kind?
After #29, approach the woman and police officer around Kaku Avenue and River Street. Follow her into Worldwide Market Village and agree to investigate. The stakeout needs nighttime. If it won't appear during your current chapter, progress the story or return in Premium Adventure when you can change the time.
At the sighting, choose the rocket launcher and aim around the middle of the meter. Then defeat the flying Sojimaru. Destroy the nearby charger early so you're not letting it support the machine through the fight.
31. Let's Go Alo-Happy!
Automatic during Chapter 5 at Worldwide Market Village. Complete the tour introduction to open the job system. Additional tours unlock more jobs; they're separate from finishing this introductory event.
32. Tropical Photo Rally
Follow the introduction after visiting Alo-Happy in Chapter 5. This opens the Photo Rally activity. You can collect the district photo sets afterward; completing every set isn't required to finish the introduction.
33. The Island at Rock Bottom
Automatic in Chapter 6. Follow the event that brings Ichiban to Dondoko Island and complete its introductory sequence. Developing the full resort is a much larger side activity, not something you must finish before returning to the main story.
34. The Legend of the Labyrinth
Automatic during the Chapter 5 patrol. Enter Hawaiian Haunt, handle the introductory rescue and dungeon sequence, and finish that introduction. Clearing all the later sectors is a separate dungeon objective.
35. Love and Punishment
After the Chapter 6 Daidoji-hideout progress, find the woman in the alley across from the Night Street taxi point at night. Agree to stay with her, then locate her again near Pearl Avenue and complete the confrontation.
The later section needs daytime. Meet Zack in Anaconda Harbor Park, then find Marian in the marked alley near Art Walls and win the final fight. A missing marker between those sections usually means you need the time to change, not that you've lost the quest.
36. Relics of the Past
From Chapter 9, investigate the excavators at the western end of Aloha Beach. Meet the familiar ringmaster nearby, then return for the next marked scene. Follow him and defeat both excavators. They're level 31 and vulnerable to fire. Keep healing available and finish one rather than letting both keep taking turns against you.
