The Midnight Walk

The Midnight Walk All right, so I had a chance to get a lot further into the game. I don’t know how far I am away from beating it, but I’ve got a solid two or three hours into it. I probably won’t finish the whole game right now just because, again, I’m messing around, and I’m going to be starting on KCD 2 within a few days. But I’m fiddling around with it. I like it, but there are a few things that annoy the hell out of me. First of all, the loading is a pain in the ass. And it happens a lot. It’ll happen in the middle of an encounter, it’ll happen in the middle of running, and it’ll happen when you change scenes. There’s like a three-to-five-second pause when it hits loading. On my PS5, it really doesn’t feel well optimized. I haven’t tried it on any other platform, so I can only speak to what I’m getting here. And then some of the areas are just so annoying. I’m not even talking from a puzzle perspective. I’m talking about glitches. For example, when I got the Matchlock, it was cool at first. Then I spent literally 30 minutes trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work. It wasn’t loading properly, it wasn’t working, and it wasn’t shooting. It looked like it had loaded the match, but it just wouldn’t fire. I had to shut down and restart the game for it to work. So I spent 30 minutes of my night getting to the point where I was angry because there was nowhere to go. I didn’t really want to look it up online for such a simple game, just to find out that restarting fixed it. Whatever was going wrong with the Matchlock, it was a complete waste of my time. Add that to the fact that once I finally did get it working, I was able to get a little ways and then got stuck in another puzzle. But I’ll figure that one out tomorrow. I mean, it’s not a bad game. I love the storylines. I love the art. I love the atmosphere. They could have put a little bit more care into the gameplay and fixing bugs and stuff like that. The loading pauses and having to restart over the Matchlock have definitely dragged down parts of my time with it. But other than that, it’s been a pretty good game.
