The Midnight Walk So I just recently finished up Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1. I’m gonna be starting on the second one soon, but I was bouncing around to a couple of smaller games before I start jumping into the second one because I just got out of a 200-plus-hour engagement with the first one. One of the games I know I’m gonna be beating is Coffee Talk 2 because I played the first one. I haven’t started on it yet, but I will be alongside KCD 2. One thing I’m playing right now, though, is called The Midnight Walk. I’m still early in it, and I don’t think I’m going to play it all the way through right now, but I’m just kind of fiddling around with it. And I will say, so far I like it. You start off, and it’s a really obscure, surreal, strange type of game. I think their intention was kind of to lean in the horror direction, and so far it doesn’t really hit that for me. It’s just got a very unnatural, disturbing feeling to it. But I like it so far. It’s got really good art and really good graphics. The mechanics are really simple, and it’s more like a story-driven game. So far it’s very linear, at least from what I can tell. The path is always pretty straightforward, and what to do is always pretty straightforward. I’m playing it as I’m writing this right now using speech-to-text. When I first started putting these thoughts together, I wasn’t even an hour into it and had just run into a creature that it looked like I needed to hide from. I’ve gotten a little further now, and there are definitely opportunities where you can die. I wouldn’t call it combat, at least not from what I’ve played so far. It’s more like little scenarios where you have to stealth through certain parts or run through certain parts. So there is more going on than just walking down a path and looking at things. You do have to pay attention to what’s around you and figure out how to get past it. It’s got little puzzles so far, too, where you have to grab a ladder or use a large match as a torch to light something. Nothing I’ve run into has been overly complicated. It’s been pretty straightforward figuring out what I need to do next, and the simple mechanics work for what I’ve played. I will say the one thing I don’t like about it so far is the drag when you’re running into a new area. I mentioned a slight delay at first, but it’s worse than I thought it was. It takes like five seconds before it loads, so it slows things down. If you’re in a tense situation, like you’re getting chased by something, it’s a little awkward because you’re running into a new area and then it lags. You’re running into another area and it lags again. That’s probably my only real complaint so far. I’m trying to get away from something, and then I’m waiting for the next area to load. It interrupts things enough that I keep noticing it. Again, it’s a really weird and odd game, but I really like it so far for what it is. It’s different than what I’ve played before, and the art is a big part of why I’m enjoying looking around and seeing what’s next. I don’t think I’m going to play it all the way through right now. But I’m having fun with it so far. I’m just fiddling around with a few games while I wait for the mood to hit for KCD 2, and I wanted to play a few of the ones I haven’t played before. Like I said, that’s rare. I’ve been playing games a long time, so most games out there I’ve either played or put on my list. That’s why I’m just throwing out some of my first thoughts on this one rather than trying to talk like I’ve seen the whole thing. So far I’ve liked it from the beginning. The loading delays are annoying, but I’m still having fun with it.
