Yakuza: Like a Dragon: Hidden Shops, Circus Fights, and the Last Substory Gaps
The last empty spaces in Like a Dragon’s substory list are not all late-game quests. Some are waiting for another conversation. Some need a personality stat. Others sit behind a minigame you may have left alone since Chapter 4.
This covers substories 31–39 in full, then puts 40–52 in their proper place so you can tell which activity owns each missing entry. It includes the secret weapons shop, the million-yen vacuum cleaner and the circus chain.
31. Like Father, Like Son
Start outside Meng Wu in Chinatown. This is normally grouped with Chapter 9, though you can also trigger it during the brief late-Chapter-8 free-roam window.
Approach the argument involving the chefs and their customer. Leave the area and return when the continuation marker appears. Accept the father’s request to find out what his son is doing.
Leave and return again to speak with Yuta. Choose “Polish up your skills!” for Kindness. The other replies award different personality points, but the skills advice is the response that moves the conversation forward.
Make one more return visit for the next family scene, then follow the events into the fight against the two chefs. Win to finish the story.
Your rewards include a Professional’s Whisk from the battle and Court Tongs from the father. Court Tongs are an accessory that increases Chef job experience, not another weapon to compare against the whisk. Keep them if you intend to level Chef later.
32. Forget Me Not
Available from Chapter 9. Look for the woman in white on Carriage Highway in North Jinnai Station, east of Le Nouveau Hama and near the Election Office taxi.
Agree to spend time with Kaede and suggest the arcade. Try to win her a stuffed toy from the UFO Catcher. Success gives +20 Kindness, but failing to grab a prize does not permanently block the substory.
Continue the outing, then defeat the three men who confront you. The battle awards Insulated Innerwear, and the story concludes afterward.
This one does not unlock a shop, Poundmate or employee. That is not a reason to skip it. Finish the outing and let the ending speak for itself rather than looking up the twist first.
33. The Traffic Census Sensei
Available from Chapter 12. Find the seated census worker in the northern part of Ijincho, around the East Jinnai Station and Sunlight Castle area, opposite La Chatte Blanche.
Agree to cover for him. There are three counting rounds, with short moves or return visits between them:
- First round: 4 men. Reward: ¥10,000.
- Second round: 7 women. Reward: ¥20,000.
- Third round: 5 men and 6 women. Reward: ¥30,000.
Correct answers also award Confidence. Complete all three to receive the Battered Tally Counter, with ¥60,000 earned across the rounds.
The objective changes between rounds, so do not keep counting only the men after the first attempt. There is no need to grind battles or bring an expensive item for this one. It is a straightforward cleanup quest once you have reached its chapter.
34. Bros Till the End
Available from Chapter 9. Approach the bikers at the southern edge of Hamakita Park, near the East Hamakita Park taxi. Speak to Taka, the man in purple, and offer to help.
Leave and return. Taka has headed out himself, so follow the new marker to the Commercial District, west of Hello Work. Examine his distinctive purple motorcycle outside the building to enter the next scene.
Beat the three yakuza inside. You receive a Swordsman’s Sash and unlock Taka the Striker as a Poundmate.
The motorcycle is the interaction that advances this stage. If you reach the marker and cannot find a person to speak with, check the bike rather than circling the building looking for another entrance.
35. Preparing to Suck
Available from Chapter 9. Enter Sesil Café on Gull Alley, east of La Chatte Blanche, and meet Professor Okita and his cleaning robot. Speak to the professor again after the introduction.
He needs ¥1,000,000 for the project. You can contribute in installments or pay it all at once. This is separate from the million-yen donation in Warmest Wishes, so budget for two different quests if you intend to finish both.
After paying the full amount, leave the area and wait for his message. Read it, then go to the marked location in front of Jinnai Station and agree to help with the demonstration.
Sojimaru has three targets. Destroy the left and right arms first, then concentrate on the main body. Electricity is its weakness. Bring an electric skill if you have one available, plus enough healing and MP recovery for a fight that can drag when you only use ordinary physical attacks.
Winning makes Sojimaru available for recruitment in the business. Paying the professor funds the encounter; it does not immediately add the robot to your employee list.
36. Whispers of the Underworld
Available from Chapter 9. This one has two separate Confidence checks that are easy to confuse.
First, open access to the Gambling Hall route near Kinka Bridge, northwest of Kinka Pharmacy. Speak to the men guarding the ladder with Confidence at level 4 and ask what is down there.
At Survive, speak with Iroha about the secret shop. She gives you a password. Follow the marker to Zhou Long Distribution on Ijin Street and say:
“Lau Chau Chau Ya.”
That gives Intellect and leads to a fight against three employees. Win, then follow the new contact’s directions back to Kinka Bridge. Descend the ladder to the riverside walkway and speak to Chau.
Raise Confidence to level 7, then speak to Chau to access his shop. Continue speaking with him, roughly four conversations in total, until the additional scene plays and he joins the Poundmates roster. Leave and return if necessary between conversations.
Do not keep buying expensive weapons because the quest remains marked unfinished. A purchase by itself does not replace the Confidence requirement or the final conversations.
This is an important unlock for equipment shopping, including weapons relevant to the DLC jobs if you own them. You can finish the substory without equipping those jobs.
37. Ringleader Roundup: Bear Blues
Available in Chapter 10 after the main-story business in Restaurant Row. Go to western Hamakita Park and approach the person handing out circus flyers. Then head to the circus marker on the eastern side of the park.
Speak with Ringmaster Yasuda and prepare to fight Catherine, the level-29 bear.
Fire and bullet damage are the useful weaknesses here. Bring a source of each if your current party allows it, and keep a healer ready. The bear has enough health that repeatedly choosing a weak attack type makes the fight unnecessarily long.
Win to receive the Chief’s Towel and open the next circus substory. This chain consists of three different completed entries, not one story with three fights automatically bundled together.
38. Ringleader Roundup: Tiger Takeover
Available after Bear Blues. Leave the circus area and return for Yasuda’s next performance.
Charlotte, the level-29 tiger, is also weak to fire and bullets. Keep the party healed and watch for bleeding. You can use the same basic party setup as the bear fight, but do not start the second encounter with everyone still injured from the first.
Victory earns the Medal of Honor.
Afterward, walk south and approach the construction workers and excavator for their scene. That sets up the final part of the circus chain.
39. Ringleader Roundup: Chimp Calamity
Available after Tiger Takeover and the construction-worker scene. Return to Yasuda for the chimpanzee performance.
The target is the excavator, not an ordinary animal enemy. Electricity is the weakness to build around this time. Keep your healer active, guard when someone is in danger, and do not assume the fire-focused approach from the previous two fights will remain your best option.
Defeat the machine to receive the Doll of Torment and unlock Clara-chan for business recruitment.
That completes the circus chain. If only one or two of these entries show as finished, return to Hamakita Park and look for the next conversation rather than waiting for a new chapter.
Where substories 40–46 fit
These all belong to Dragon Kart at the northern end of Hamakita Park. The early races open from Chapter 4, while the last stretch waits until Chapter 15.
- 40, Welcome to Dragon Kart: finish the introduction and opening race.
- 41, Two-headed Bomb: beat Naoki and Hamanoumi after winning the Cerberus Cup.
- 42, The Rocket Girls: beat Ai and Matsuko after winning the Pegasus Cup.
- 43, The Data Drifter: beat Suguru after winning the Phoenix Cup.
- 44, Biker Blitz: challenge Akira after beating Suguru.
- 45, One Hell of a Racer: in Chapter 15, speak to Jin on the bench opposite Dragon Kart and win his challenge.
- 46, The World Is My Racetrack: win the Dragon Cup, then challenge the organizer and beat the Dragon Fighter.
The Dragon Kart guide in this series covers the cup order, tracks, rival races, upgrades and final win. The main completion trap is stopping after a cup victory without doing the rival encounter it unlocked.
Where substories 47–52 fit
These are the relationship endings:
- 47, Girl of My Dreams: Saeko at Survive.
- 48, Shared Vision: Eri, beginning at the business office.
- 49, Certified Lover: Miyakoshi at Ounabara Vocational School.
- 50, Pillow Chat: Iroha at Survive.
- 51, The Real Me: Ririka at Hello Work.
- 52, The Lone Survivor: the follow-up after completing the six individual relationships, including Sumire’s substory 14.
Use the romance guide for each personality requirement, bond or activity gate, gift sequence and final conversation. These are not simply six new bubbles that all appear because you reached the last chapter.
When a substory will not finish
Check the journal before spending more money or replaying a minigame. Then check these four things:
- Have you left the area and returned for the next scene?
- Does the next step require daytime or nighttime?
- Have you met the actual chapter, personality or previous-substory requirement?
- Did you collect the reward but skip the final conversation?
All 52 substories can be cleaned up in Premium Adventure. The Stories of the Streets trophy or achievement requires 40 completed substories, not all 52, but the remaining stories still contain useful recruits, equipment and endings.
