Yakuza: Like a Dragon: The Substories That Fill Out Your Poundmates and Business Roster
Some of Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s most useful recruits are waiting in its strangest side stories. A former actor needs water. A dominatrix needs career advice. A man digging through rubbish needs a better employer.
This covers substories 20–30, including the Chapter 9 follow-ups mixed into the Chapter 7 section of your completion list. The numbers below are the game’s substory IDs. They do not represent the order you have to finish them.
When a story needs another visit, move away until its next marker appears, then return. Standing beside the same character and repeatedly talking usually will not advance it. These stories remain available for later cleanup, so you can leave an expensive step unfinished and come back with money.
20. Table for One
Available from Chapter 7. Go upstairs at Wette Kitchen on Isezaki Road and approach the boy eating alone. Step in when he is bothered and win the fight.
Leave the restaurant and return to speak with Noboru again. His birthday conversation sends you to a shop in the Bar District, south of Survive. Approach the marker, then stop the bag snatcher. You receive Maximum Mittens from Noboru’s mother.
That is not the final step. Return to Wette Kitchen and see the last conversation with Noboru. He then becomes available to recruit for the business. If the encounter is not appearing during your current story phase, check again in the evening.
21. Dumpster of Demise
Available from Chapter 7 in the empty lot directly across from Romance Workshop. Help the man sticking out of the rubbish, then leave and return.
Shige offers a choice of three finds:
- Shiny Black Object: Nameless Katana.
- Dull Metal Object: Rusted Chainmail.
- Creepy Object: Rime Amulet.
Choose whichever fills a gap in your equipment. None is a unique item that makes the other choices a permanent completion mistake.
Leave and return again to find the yakuza confronting him. Beat them to receive an Intimidation Manual and make Shige available for business recruitment. Getting the item from his rubbish pile is only the middle of the story, so do the last revisit before ticking this one off.
22. An Act of Kindness
Available from Chapter 7. Find Megumi collecting donations in the underpass near Jinnai Station, at the northern end of Isezaki Road.
Donate ¥100, ¥1,000 or ¥10,000. Any of those amounts lets you continue. You do not need to hand over the maximum to unlock the sequel.
When suggesting a better place to collect, choose “Near the Popular Eatery” for an Intellect increase. She moves near Akaushimaru on Isezaki Road. Leave and revisit her there. “Listen up!” gives Confidence when you help her attract attention.
Investigate the other donation collectors at the marked location near Lin Lin Hostess Bar in Ijin Alley. Win the fight, then return to Megumi outside Akaushimaru. She gives you Pearl Earrings, and this clears the prerequisite for Warmest Wishes.
23. Warmest Wishes
Available from Chapter 9 after finishing An Act of Kindness. Visit Megumi near Akaushimaru on Isezaki Road during the day.
Follow the family conversations, leave and return when required, then find her father at the next marker near Central Street. Deal with the men confronting him.
The major requirement comes afterward: you need ¥1,000,000. You can pause the story here while earning it. Business management is a reliable way to cover the cost without selling useful equipment.
Once you have the money, use a taxi and select the newly available Central Hospital destination. Complete that visit, then return to Megumi’s family near Akaushimaru for the ending.
Megumi becomes a Poundmate. Remember that donating the money and visiting the hospital are not the same as completing the whole substory. The final return to the family matters.
24. Fifty Shades of Play
Available from Chapter 7. Start at the parking lot north of Otohime Land, where women are harassing Yumiko. Intervene, then head south of Otohime Land toward the end of East Central Street for the scene involving Mr. Masochist.
Next, find him by the tree in Fukutoku Park. Remembering his name correctly gives Intellect. Agree to fight him.
Your attacks dealing no damage is the point of this encounter. Use ordinary attacks and let the scene play out. Burning your strongest skills will not uncover a hidden weakness.
Go to Poppo on Tsurukame Highway at night and speak to Yumiko at the counter. If she is absent during the day, return after the time changes. Speak with her older coworker as well, then return to Mr. Masochist at the park. After their scene, walk south to trigger Yumiko’s confrontation and beat the three attackers.
The rewards include an Ecstasy Rope and Mr. Masochist as a Poundmate. His defensive summon is useful beyond the joke: it reduces incoming damage for the party. He is available at night, so check the time before relying on him for a planned fight.
25. A Fading Star
Available from Chapter 7. Visit Eomeoni’s Vow in Koreatown to see the disruptive customer. If you are checking during Chapter 7, an evening visit is a reliable starting point.
Follow the next marker to Bar Rodriguez in the Bar District, intervene, and win the fight. When asked for his name, the correct answer is “Il Yu-Jin,” which awards Intellect.
He needs Suntory Mineral Water. Hama Wagon Café in Hamakita Park sells it for ¥110. Buy the named water rather than assuming any drink in your inventory will count.
Deliver it, then follow the next marker to Hyakkei Street. Step in when he is confronted and win the final fight. You receive a Bullet of Memory and unlock Il Yu-Jin as a Poundmate.
This is another story where the helpful errand is not the finish. Getting him sober opens the last encounter.
26. The Masked Murderer
Available from Chapter 9. Approach the group discussing a masked man in Koreatown, around Fukutokucho near Eomeoni’s Vow. Speak to the man who remains and agree to investigate.
The confrontation happens at night. Go to the marked road north of Eomeoni’s Vow and fight the masked man.
You receive a Profane Wristband and unlock Jiei-san as a Poundmate. If you hear the rumor during the day and cannot find him, that does not mean the quest has broken. Continue the story until nighttime or use the time-changing options available later in the game.
27. The Miracle of Spice
Available from Chapter 7. Start with the elderly woman at the crossing where Hyakkei Street meets Tsurukame Highway. After she gives up trying to cross, follow the marker to the kimchi seller around Sakura Street and Sakura Lane.
The seller gives you three portions to distribute. Visit:
- The student at the Jinnai Station marker.
- The runner along the southern side of Hamakita Park.
- The elderly woman back at the original crossing.
Give the woman her portion after helping the other two. Once she finally makes it across, return to the kimchi seller for the closing scene.
Umeko becomes available for the business, and the seller starts offering Miracle Kimchi. It is a battle item that speeds up the recipient’s turns, so this story unlocks something more useful than a one-time joke consumable.
28. Tour Guide Turmoil
Available during late Chapter 8 free roam, or from Chapter 9 onward. Find Ayami in Hamakita Park, north of La Chatte Blanche. Agree to help her with the tour, then meet her near the Chinatown entrance by The Bun Sauna.
The answers are:
- Red Dragon.
- Blue Sign.
- Ultra Packed Super Bun.
These give Passion, Intellect and Style respectively. You can get through the story without answering perfectly, but there is no reason to leave the personality points behind when you know the answers.
After the tour, deal with the man bothering Ayami. Completion gives a Fancy Microphone, a Technique Booster and Ayami Ishida as a recruit for the business.
29. The Michio Minefield
Available from Chapter 9. Approach Hironaka at the gazebo in southeastern Chinatown.
During the initial figure conversation, pressing the button harder gives Confidence; choosing to stop gives Intellect. Agree to help clean up the scattered merchandise.
You need seven genuine Ono Michio figures. Use the inspection view and check the clothing before picking anything up. The genuine figures have long sleeves. The counterfeit versions wear sleeveless tops. The real figures also have the correct large pupils and smaller mouth, but checking the sleeves is the quickest dependable distinction.
A wrong pickup explodes and hurts Ichiban. Slow down around crowded patches and rotate the camera until you can see the arms. This is identification, not a race.
Finish collecting the seven real figures to receive an Ono Michio Figure and unlock the next substory.
30. Fauxno Michio
Available from Chapter 9 after The Michio Minefield. Go to the next Chinatown marker near The Bun Sauna to find the counterfeit mascot operation.
Follow the scenes, put on the outfit and defeat the fake Michio and his group. Bring the party in healthy rather than treating the costume as a reason the fight must be harmless.
The rewards are a Def Boom Box, Hironaka for the business and Ono Michio as a Poundmate.
If you are choosing what to prioritize, finish Fifty Shades of Play for the defensive summon, the two Megumi stories when you can afford the hospital donation, and the two Michio stories together. The business recruits from the other quests also give you more options without buying the DLC employee packs.
