Yakuza: Like a Dragon: Business Management From Ichiban Confections to Rank One
Business Management is worth learning even if you only care about the RPG. Reaching the top 100 unlocks Eri as a party member. Finishing the whole business storyline unlocks Essence of Orbital Laser for Ichiban and turns successful shareholder meetings into a repeatable ¥3,000,000 personal payout.
The mode opens through “Ijincho's Safety Net” in Chapter 5. Initially, you play by speaking to Eri upstairs at Ichiban Confections, near the western end of Tsurukame Bridge. After reaching the top 50, operations move to the Ichiban Holdings office.
Understand the two bank accounts
Management Funds belong to the business. Ichiban's personal cash belongs to your party. You cannot pull property earnings straight into your wallet or rescue a badly run company with the millions you earned finding cats.
The personal money arrives as an executive bonus after shareholder meetings. That distinction explains why a sales report can show millions while your inventory wallet barely changes.
One business period consists of four Open for Business sessions, followed by one shareholder meeting. Your core routine is:
• Check property staffing and expected profit.
• Restore employee morale when needed.
• Run sales sessions and reinvest carefully.
• Prepare a balanced meeting team.
• Win the meeting and collect the bonus.
Make every property work before buying another
A property's Sales Volume determines its earning potential. Product, Service, and Notability determine whether your staff and facilities can support that potential.
Keep those three requirement bars blue. If one is red, inspect the staffing and improvement screens before opening. Raising Sales Volume also raises the demands on the property, so buying the next revenue upgrade can create a shortfall that was not there before.
The leader contributes all three business stats. Each of the other two slots contributes only the stat shown for that slot. These supporting requirements vary by property. Do not assume the second slot always contributes Product or the third always contributes Notability.
Put your best all-round employee in the leader position, then use specialists to cover whichever bars are still short. You do not have to fill all three slots if one capable leader already meets the requirements.
Before spending money, try rearranging the people you already employ. Moving a strong Service employee into a slot that actually uses Service can fix a property without a new hire or upgrade.
Build a small workforce you can afford
Employees cost money even when they are not assigned to a property. Avoid hiring every impressive applicant and leaving half of them unused. Keep people who run a business well or have a clear job on your shareholder team.
Training increases an employee's level. Promotions open higher level caps but also increase salary, so promote for a reason. A promotion is worthwhile when it lets a trusted employee meet a new property's requirements or survive stronger meetings. It is less useful when you are paying more for somebody who already does their job comfortably.
The early trio of Tome Kamataki, Omelette, and Hanayama provides all three meeting colors. Hanayama becomes available through Chapter 5's “Home Run Heroism.” Omelette is particularly useful because her blue argument has a low command cost.
This is a no-DLC route. Paid employee packs are not required.
The practical climb through the rankings
To the top 100: Concentrate your upgrades on Ichiban Confections. It is a strong early earner and cannot be sold, so this investment stays useful. Mahjong Club Ling is a manageable second property if you have the staff and money for it, but you do not need a sprawling portfolio to reach Eri's unlock.
Keep enough cash for employee care. Reaching the target with unhappy staff and no meeting budget is an avoidable problem. Once you enter the top 100, leave the business and speak to Eri at Survive Bar. The rank alone does not complete her party recruitment.
To the top 50: Expand with properties such as Yokodo Bookstore, Mr. Brillio, and Ryusei Stage Theatre as funds and staffing allow. Upgrade them into working businesses before chasing the next purchase. Tome can become a very efficient Ichiban Confections leader after training and promotion.
At rank 51, the shareholder confrontation is the gate into the top 50. Run the meeting rather than expecting ordinary sales to push through the milestone. The business then becomes Ichiban Holdings, so remember the new office location.
To the top 20: Consider Cat's Servant, Karaoke GonGon, Hortensia, and White Flag. Replace your weakest properties gradually. Compare expected profit after staffing costs, not just the impressive sales number on the purchase screen.
By now, training your useful employees matters more. Unlocking a better property is only helpful if you can satisfy its requirements. The rank-21 shareholder confrontation is the next major gate.
To the top 10: Shokichi Camera, Waipu Production, and PDCA Trading Company are worthwhile options when available. Buy one, fund its improvements, staff it properly, then use its earnings to make the next replacement. Spending everything on several unfinished properties can make the company worse before it gets better.
To rank one: Keep the operation profitable and win the important shareholder meetings. Later high-profit options include Mirai Tower, Dianthus, Jinnai Stadium, Red Park, and Media Barter. They are options for building a strong final portfolio, not a required shopping list. Do not dismantle a healthy setup just because another guide uses a different combination.
Eri's bond advances with the business milestones: top 100, top 50, top 20, top 10, and rank one. Her final bond level comes from completing this mode, rather than filling an ordinary friendship bar through meals.
Shareholder meetings, explained properly
Bring four employees, including at least one red, one green, and one blue. Low Command Cost lets you answer and attack more often. Persuasiveness determines how hard arguments hit, while Tenacity helps an employee withstand pressure.
Restore morale before entering. Auto Care is convenient, but check the bill and leave room for it in your business budget.
Memorize the color cycle:
• Red beats green.
• Green beats blue.
• Blue beats red.
Each confrontation has two stages, and the colors can change between them.
First, break the complaint. Choose a shareholder to hear their question. Look at the complaint bubble's color and respond with the color that beats it. An advantageous response breaks its three shields efficiently.
Then, persuade the shareholder. Once the shields break, look at the shareholder's own color and use its counter for the attacks that follow. The shareholder's color is not necessarily the complaint's color.
For example, a red shareholder can raise a blue complaint. Use green to break the blue complaint, then switch to blue to attack the red shareholder. Staying on the first employee because their answer worked is a common reason meetings feel harder than they should.
Watch the command gauge. Repeatedly pressing an expensive employee drains it quickly. Let it refill between confrontations when there is breathing room, and deal with shareholders whose irritation is building instead of leaving everyone to erupt at once.
Ichiban's apology is your emergency tool. It charges during the meeting, with stronger levels producing greater effects. Use it to relieve pressure, damage the opposition, and recover rather than losing while waiting for a perfect Level 3 moment.
Aim for 100% support. If the screen is moving faster than you can read it, pause, identify the complaint color, and decide your next response. There is no benefit in turning a solvable color puzzle into button-mashing.
Keep the company out of trouble
Advertising offers can give a substantial sales boost. Take advantage when you can afford the campaign without emptying your operating budget. Treat speculative investment pitches more cautiously, especially early on. You can reach rank one without gambling the money needed for wages and upgrades.
Loans are a tool, not the normal way to pay for every purchase. If borrowing is necessary, compare the displayed rates and repayments. The bank's terms are much better than the expensive lenders. Borrow toward a specific property improvement you can support, rather than covering repeated losses you have not diagnosed.
Nick's targets are measured in business periods, not real-world time. You can leave to do substories, recruit useful staff, or save before a meeting. Missing a target is not a permanently ruined save; extensions are available. Fix the business instead of assuming you must restart the campaign.
Once you reach rank one
Ichiban gains Essence of Orbital Laser, Eri reaches her final business bond milestone, and the business remains available. Maintain a successful operation, run the four sales sessions, win the meeting, and collect the ¥3,000,000 executive bonus again.
That is the repeatable money loop. Once it works, you do not need to keep rebuilding the company every time you come back for another payout.
