LIKE A DRAGON GAIDEN: ARCADE AND MASTER SYSTEM
Gaiden's retro-game trophies are much easier than the full Activity Log targets. Retro Gamer needs five Master System games played. Arcade Dweller needs six different arcade activities tried. Neither trophy asks you to finish every game inside the game.
If you want the complete collection and the optional arcade checklist too, here is what to collect and what each machine actually requires.
THE MASTER SYSTEM
The console becomes available at the Daidoji hideout in Chapter 3. It starts with four games:
- Fantasy Zone.
- Secret Command.
- Penguin Land.
- Maze Hunter 3-D.
For Retro Gamer, play those four and one additional cartridge. You can start a game and return to the selection screen; beating it is not required. Locker F1 is in the hideout's entrance area and contains Alien Syndrome, so that is a convenient fifth title.
For the full collection, there are eight cartridges to obtain beyond the four supplied games:
Alien Syndrome: open locker F1. Pick up its key in the Daidoji hideout from Chapter 3 onward.
Fantasy Zone II: open locker F4. Stand south of Yotsudera Kaikan and use Spider to collect the key from the narrow gap between that building and the one to its east.
Enduro Racer: open locker I4. The key is in a tree along the southern Sotenbori river footpath. Use Spider.
Galaxy Force: buy it from Ebisu Pawn Sotenbori for ¥5,500.
Quartet: exchange 2,500 chips at the Castle Casino.
Global Defense: exchange 2,500 wooden tags at the Castle Gambling Hall.
Flicky: look on top of an umbrella along the northern Sotenbori river footpath. Retrieve it with Spider.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World: look on top of an umbrella on Castle Central Street in front of the Gambling Hall. Retrieve it with Spider.
Buying or finding a cartridge adds it to the selection, but the Activity Log checks that you played it. After collecting the last ones, make one visit to the console and launch every title you haven't tried. There is no requirement to complete twelve old games from beginning to end.
THE SIX ARCADE ACTIVITIES
At Club SEGA in Sotenbori, make sure you have tried UFO Catcher, Virtua Fighter 2.1, Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers 2, Motor Raid, and Sega Racing Classic 2. These are the six for Arcade Dweller. The Master System is a different activity.
You only need to enter each game for that trophy. For the Activity Log, the targets below are more specific.
FIGHTING VIPERS 2
Win one match with each of the eleven default characters and reach twenty match victories in total. A round is not a whole match; finish the best-of-three encounter before quitting or changing characters.
I'd clear the character requirement first, moving through the selection screen in order so none get skipped. Then use whichever character you find easiest for the remaining wins. You don't need to clear the entire arcade ladder with all eleven.
Armor and walls matter here. Breaking armor increases the damage an opponent takes, while the arena walls let you continue pressure without relying on Virtua Fighter-style ring-outs. Use a short attack string and throw a guarding opponent rather than repeating one move into a block forever.
VIRTUA FIGHTER 2.1
Win a match with each of the ten characters and reach twenty wins overall. Use the Easy cabinet if you want a more forgiving completion route.
Watch your position. Stepping out of the arena loses the round even if you have more health. That rule works on the opponent too, so attacks that push someone toward the edge can end a round faster than draining their whole bar.
Once the character-specific wins are done, Jeffry's lunging Punch + Kick + Guard attack is one accessible option for the remaining victories. Keep an eye on spacing instead of assuming one repeated move will win every matchup.
SONIC THE FIGHTERS
Win a match with each of the eight basic characters and reach twenty total victories. The hidden characters aren't part of that eight-character checklist.
The barrier system makes guarding different from holding an unlimited block. Repeated pressure can break barriers, so keep attacking when the opponent is cornered and use your own defense deliberately. As with the other fighters, finish the match, check it registered, and move to the next character before doing the remaining win total.
MOTOR RAID
Complete Practice on each of the five main planets, then finish a full three-race Championship without dropping out. First place is not required for the completion entries. Finishing before the time expires is the important part.
Championship begins on Yendas and branches according to your results. That doesn't replace separately selecting the five Practice courses. Work through the Practice selection one at a time, then do the full Championship run.
Double-tap acceleration for Turbo when it is available. A fully charged boost also gives you an offensive spin, while the attack buttons let you slow nearby riders. Use those tools to keep your route clear, but don't throw away a safe finish chasing a position the checklist doesn't require.
SEGA RACING CLASSIC 2
The Activity Log asks for ten plays. It does not require ten wins, a perfect lap, or clearing every course in first place. Starting a paid game and quitting counts toward the play total.
If you're playing the races properly, automatic transmission and a more forgiving car reduce the number of things you need to manage while learning the courses. Beginner is the short oval; Advanced is the theme-park course; Expert is the longer city-and-country route; Challenge combines the courses into one extended lap.
UFO CATCHER
For the log, collect twenty different prizes and thirty prizes total. Thirty copies of the easiest toy won't satisfy the variety requirement.
Change the camera angle before committing the crane's depth. If a prize slips, look at where the claw caught it and adjust the next attempt instead of repeating the exact alignment. Talk to the attendant when you need the arrangement changed or reset.
Keep the prizes needed for street jobs: any toy works for the generic requests, Kitty Kat, Come Home needs a Kitty Kat of any color, and A Quest for Ono Michio needs the Ono Michio Pixel Figure.
The main distinction throughout this cleanup is between trying an activity and meeting its own completion targets. The two retro trophies are quick. The full log adds cartridge collecting, character-specific wins, racing finishes, and prize variety, but it still doesn't ask you to beat every arcade game all the way through.
