The biggest improvement you can make to Yakuza 6's baseball team is to stop expecting the starting roster to carry the whole season. Better recruits, training, and a sensible lineup do a lot of the work before you ever swing the bat.
Start #34, Assemble the Team, during daytime in Chapter 4 along the waterfront near the Navy Apartments. The first match is a scripted loss. Then return to the field, follow #35, and recruit Moritsuka by winning his fight in Hana-no-kubo. After that, you can recruit the other players and take a taxi to the field for matches.
Here's where the twelve extra players come from:
- Moritsuka: the pitcher recruited in #35.
- Maetani: the suited man at Ryunan Shrine. He asks for ¥1,000,000.
- Kuramoto: outside Yonetoku. Give him alcohol; the pharmacy sells sake.
- Kawamura: near the north entrance to Hana-no-kubo. Bring MUSCLE from RIZAP in Kamurocho.
- Genie: near the southeastern Onomichi taxi. Bring a Sushi Set from Poppo in Kamurocho.
- Kase: finish #25, The Fools Who Dream, then speak to him in the shopping district.
- Gorchov: complete #48 by catching the Delicious Octopus in Sunken Labyrinth.
- Hatakeyama: finish his New Gaudi story, #41, and speak to him again.
- Akiyoshi: finish his bar story, #42, then return to recruit him.
- Gen-san: finish #43, including the message and return visit, then speak to him again.
- Yoshida: beat the batting-center challenge in #19 and ask him to join.
- Gori-san: win the home-run challenge in #20.
Bring the Kamurocho-only recruitment items before a trip to Onomichi if you want to avoid waiting for the story to send you back. Maetani is expensive, so the New Serena safe money is one possible way to cover him. Don't spend your last healing money just because a recruit is available.
Gold players have the highest growth ceiling. Bronze players cap at level 5, silver at 7, and gold at 10. Check each player's fielding ratings instead of assuming a strong hitter will be fine anywhere.
A useful developed lineup has Gorchov pitching; Yoshida catching; Gori-san at first; Kase at second; Hatakeyama at third; Gen-san at shortstop; Kiryu, Kuramoto, and Maetani in the outfield; and Genie as designated hitter. That uses Genie's bat without depending on his weaker fielding. You don't need every one of them before winning the early games.
Give your high-contact, faster players earlier batting slots and put the power hitters behind them. Train between games. Each training ticket gives a player a useful EXP boost, but you can only use one ticket per player between matches. Don't sit on a pile of tickets waiting for the last opponent.
Player-condition arrows matter too. Red is a good day and blue is a bad one. Early on, use the bench to replace someone having a poor day. During a match, watch the pitcher's remaining stamina and bring in relief before a tired pitcher gives the game away. Gorchov becomes a particularly strong long-game option as he develops.
Most of the match is simulated, with three player-controlled batting opportunities. You can speed up the simulation. At the plate, don't swing at a pitch that starts outside the zone and cannot break into it. Look at the pitcher's listed pitches and account for left-handed pitchers reversing horizontal movement.
For the story, beat the Thunders reserves, the main Thunders, the Onomichi Legends, and Kanamizawa Gorgeous. If a new opponent is too strong, replay a match you've already beaten and improve the team. After the final story win, return to the Navy Apartments for Kanamizawa's follow-up.
The two batting-center recruits have fixed tests. For these directions, use the final square where the ball arrives, not where its cursor begins. Top-left is 7, top-middle 8, top-right 9; middle-left 4, center 5, middle-right 6; bottom-left 1, bottom-middle 2, bottom-right 3.
For Yoshida, play three Challenge Courses after the Chapter 6 unlock and with #35 finished. His test is: curveball 1; sinker 3; forkball 2; two-seamer 7; cutter 9; change-up 2; splitter 6; slider 4; one-seamer 7; shootball 3. Hit five home runs consecutively. Pay particular attention to the eighth pitch: it's a slider to middle-left.
For Gori-san, play three Home Run Courses in that same unlock window. His sequence is: two-seamer 6; cutter 4; splitter 2; one-seamer 1; splitter 3; two-seamer 7; cutter 6; one-seamer 2; splitter 1; one-seamer 4. You need at least seven home runs, but they don't have to be consecutive.
Aim for the final square ahead of time and concentrate on timing. The target indicator changes as the ball reaches the hitting point. Repeating the same sequence helps you separate a bad aim from an early or late swing.
Platinum needs an actual baseball win and all the baseball-related substories. Full Awards go further: sixteen baseball missions, twelve extra recruits, thirty wins, one pitcher with double-digit wins, one batter with double-digit home runs, and one batter with 100 RBI. The Award sometimes described as 100 hits is tracking RBI, so don't grind the wrong statistic.
