YAKUZA 5 REMASTERED: EVERY TRAINING MASTER, STEP BY STEP Training is one of the few side activities worth prioritizing even if you're only playing the story. The counters, durability upgrades, Heat Actions and level-cap breakthrough make the later fights substantially more manageable. Do not confuse finishing a master's local checklist with learning every late-game move. Sosuke has a Kamurocho continuation, and Sotaro's breakthrough is a separate requirement for each character. Complete the food training too, covered separately, before attempting difficult training fights that allow its extra health. KIRYU: SOSUKE KOMAKI The introduction happens after Kiryu's evening out with his boss. Sosuke challenges him near the apartment; use R2/RT for Dragon Spirit during the tutorial. Subsequent lessons take place in the empty lot in southeast Nagasugai. General fight plan: target him, evade the end of his attack, then hit his back. Don't mash into his guard. Heat Actions are unavailable against him, so spend Heat on Dragon Spirit instead. Dragon Spirit throws are useful. When Sosuke activates his own red Dragon Spirit, stop attacking: he's invulnerable and extremely fast. Guard, preferably with Re-Guard learned. His brief pause as the effect ends is your opportunity. 1. Gale Scroll: defeat him for Komaki Knock Back. He demonstrates the same guard counter, so frontal pressure is particularly unsafe. 2. Heat Haze Scroll: win for Komaki Evade & Strike. Use the Knock Back you've just learned to interrupt his offense. 3. Flowing Water Scroll: win for Komaki Parry. Expect him to interrupt careless combos with his own parry. 4. Story interlude: when he refuses more lessons at the lot, find him just south of Club SEGA in the central district. Buy him dinner to learn Komaki Essence of Drunken Thrust, a Climax Heat move. This conversation is the progression gate, not more street fighting. 5. Tiger's Den Scroll: defeat him for Komaki Tiger Drop. His rapid counterpunch punishes attacks into his front. Bring healing and continue attacking openings rather than testing his guard repeatedly. 6. Ultimate Scroll: beat him using your expanded counter toolkit. Reward: Ultimate Essence, another Climax Heat move. 7. Speak to him again and lend him ¥30,000 for travel to Kamurocho. Don't leave this dialogue unfinished. 8. Later, visit Ryugujo in Kamurocho and follow him into his grandfather's dojo. Watch their meeting, leave the area, do another activity and return. After the scene showing his defeat, leave and return again. Speak to Sosuke for Max Komaki Tiger Drop. Speak again for repayment of the ¥30,000. SAEJIMA: TENDO In the hunting village, follow the river through the little tunnel to the shrine clearing. Offer a carrot from the trader to introduce Tendo. Offerings go to the SHRINE, not into ordinary conversation with Tendo. Each successive offering starts a Mountain God fight. 1. Wisdom of the Soul: carrot. Reward: Tiger Iron Hammer. Heat Actions and grabs won't solve this fight; the floating enemy cannot be grabbed. Use normal and charged strikes, removing weak summoned spirits when they crowd you. 2. Wisdom of the Cliffs: handmade doll. Buy wood and a chisel from the trader, use the chisel from your inventory and select the wood. Reward: Tiger Roar. Keep the god targeted, use quick attacks against his evasions and guard when the avalanche falls. 3. Wisdom of the Flames: meat from a small mountain animal. Reward: Tiger Essence of Braining, a Climax Heat move. His flaming uppercut counters reckless pressure. Guard and retaliate with Tiger Roar rather than committing to long strings. 4. Wisdom of the Earth: deer meat. Reward: Herculean Spirit. The god becomes invisible but still shimmers; Fighting Stance continues tracking him. Apply the previous fight's guard/counter approach. 5. Wisdom of the Sky: Gold Plate. Obtain one through a battle reward or buy one at Ebisu Pawn. Reward: Tiger Dragon Drop. Reacquire his position after teleports instead of attacking empty space. 6. Wisdom of the Truth: Pin-Up Magazine from Seicomart. The shrine's disturbing wording does NOT mean finding a person. Reward: Tiger Essence of Blitzing. This last god combines the earlier tricks. Track him, guard the environmental attack and avoid trading into the flaming counter. If the opening fights are too punishing, progress to Tsukimino, do Tatsuya's first lesson for restaurant overcharge, then return. Completing Tendo also unlocks Eye of the Dragon through the Completion Office, important for crafting. HARUKA: YOKO After the first Princess League finals preparation, find Yoko beneath the north end of Iwao Bridge. Do all six lessons. Do not postpone them because the Climax meter is already full: the final reward removes that concern permanently. 1. Secret to Good Health: visit the pharmacy on Sotenbori Street and ask the pharmacist for “yin er.” Reward: half a Climax Gauge. 2. Secret to Body Care: find the white-clad clinic owner at the south end of Bishamon Bridge. Win his dance battle and report to Yoko. Rewards: half a Climax Gauge, an additional Idol Heat and a health refill. 3. How to Look Fabulous: check Books Ohkando across from Kani Douraku. The book is sold out, so go to Re-Venge Books in Bunzaemon Mall. Return to Yoko, then buy the 16-piece takoyaki at Magutako and bring it to her. Reward: half a Climax Gauge. 4. Secret to Great Hair: bring ¥20,000 to Hair Message Lovesong, north of Dyna Chair on the east side of the street. Reward: half a Climax Gauge. 5. Believe in Yourself: perform So Much More! in the parking lot used by Kamiyama Works, then return. Rewards: another Idol Heat and half a Climax Gauge. 6. Dream On: speak to Momiyama at the clinic by Bishamon Bridge, then return and sing for Yoko. Your Climax Gauge is now permanently at maximum. AKIYAMA: SAIGO The story introduces Saigo's Launch Strike tutorial. Afterward he trains Akiyama in Ashitaba Park. Stock healing before combat lessons and use Tatsuya's overcharge when available. • Suicidal Running → Slash Kick Plus. Chase him, but do not run directly onto his heels: he kicks backward. Strike from just outside his retaliation range. There are no health pickups. • Suicidal Shooting → Quickstep Attack. This course gives unlimited ammunition. Keep firing with Heavy Attack as you advance. At the end, close on Saigo and maintain pressure so his SMG has fewer openings. • Suicidal Combat → Meteor Strike, a Climax Heat move. Guard Break helps break his defense. When his hairpiece falls off, exploit the time he spends trying to retrieve it. • True Suicidal Running, after the ordinary running lesson → Launch Strike Plus. Grenades make the chase much more dangerous. Extra restaurant health is particularly valuable because you cannot solve this with the usual fight-menu healing routine. • True Suicidal Shooting, after ordinary shooting → Counter Kick. Despite the name, you start unarmed against Saigo and three SMG students. Use healing, prevent the gunmen from forming a firing line, and capitalize on the hairpiece distraction. • True Suicidal Combat, the final lesson → Final Drive, a Climax Heat move. Fight Saigo while students throw grenades. Move away from the explosives and punish recovery rather than standing still trading blows. SHINADA: AYANOKOJI Rescue the oddly dressed nobleman early in Chapter 2, then meet him near the TV Tower. Each lesson begins with his life conversation. Exhaust the three questions, choose the relevant advice, then return to train. 1. Offer to take him to the red-light district. Fight his baton style for Thrift Mastery, increasing weapon durability. 2. Turn the tables on him. Beat the tonfa lesson for My Essence of Whirlwind, a Climax Heat move. 3. Help him talk to girls. Beat his pole style for My Snapping Turtle, allowing another grab after a throw. Guard Break helps with his defense. 4. Completely change his fashion sense. Defeat the more aggressive baton style for Max Thrift Mastery. 5. Tell him to compliment her. Defeat the upgraded tonfa style for My Afterimage, a quickstep grab. 6. Compose his text using, in order: “Nice talkin to u” / “Hope you didn't mind me comin up to u” / “You drivin me crazy girl” / “How bout dinner sometime?” / “Lemme hear from u!” Defeat his weapon-switching final lesson for My Essence of Bashing Combo, a Climax Heat move. You cannot use Heat Actions in these fights. Weapons are useful, especially as durability improves. Do not open with My Meteor Tackle in open space: he can counter it. Pinning him near a wall is safer. Respect tonfa spins and pole reach; dodge, punish, reset. SHINADA: IGARASHI'S COMPLETE BASEBALL TRAINING Igarashi approaches just after Chapter 2 begins. Report back to him at First Shot after each assignment. 1. Heat Eye Training: use the Special Worm he gives you at the little fishing spot in Mid Square. Catch the fish and return. At the batting center tutorial, L1/LB activates Heat Eye as the pitch approaches. 2. Swing Cursor: hit three home runs in Random Beginner. Reward: larger swing cursor. 3. Slugging: hit three home runs on Intermediate using ONE swing type. Don't alternate the face-button swings. Reward: improved slugging range and access to an online equipment shop. 4. Batting Eye: beat an Intermediate opponent at nine-ball. Reward: improved batting eye. 5. Impact: score at least 800 on Machine Gun Kiss at Karaokekan. Reward: improved impact timing. 6. Foul: win the Dragon Figure from Club SEGA's peg-in-hole UFO catcher, the difficult machine at the back left. Reward: improved foul hitting. 7. Heat Eye 2: eat Strawberry Parfait at Café Alps and report back. 8. Heat Eye 3: eat chicken dishes at Daruma, Kaburaya and Sekai no Yamachan, then report back. Rewards improve Heat Eye and Batting Eye. 9. Heat Eye F: taxi to Nagoya Wharf and catch a marlin. Buy bait from the fisherman; target the far-out fish. Bring the catch back for the last Heat Eye upgrade and access to http://Import.net. The separate fishing guide covers reeling technique. LEVEL 25: SOTARO KOMAKI'S BREAKTHROUGH Finish Sosuke's local training, pay his travel money and advance the Ryugujo reunion scenes. Sotaro then offers the breakthrough. Each character must complete their own challenge; it is not a global unlock from Kiryu doing it once. The cap rises from 20 to 25, opening the final abilities. The four men face Sotaro and Sosuke together. Bring armor and plenty of healing. Focus on reducing the fight to one opponent instead of alternating damage forever. Guard through Sosuke's invulnerable Dragon Spirit and avoid swinging into Sotaro's counters. Kiryu and Saejima can lean on their learned counterattacks. Akiyama and Shinada can use carried shotguns or the stunning Photon Blade weapons to make openings; these are training fights, not the equipment-stripping Coliseum. Haruka gets a dance battle against Sotaro instead. Win it to lift her own level cap. Training completion rewards are collected from the Completion Office via convenience stores or Naomi's Palace: Sosuke gives Platinum Triangle Ruler; Tendo gives Eye of the Dragon; Saigo gives Frozen Tuna; Ayanokoji gives Master Ball. The full Masters category also involves Tatsuya and Minamida, covered in the companion posts. Don't stop after only the combat teachers.
