Dark Ties combat and upgrade guide Mine has his own combat system, so this is where I would start before spending a lot of money or trying to force your way through the harder arena fights. Use the action names below if you have remapped your controls. With the default PlayStation layout, the special action uses a held Circle. On Xbox, hold B. Official controls: https://manual.sega.jp/ryu-kiwami3/en/ Learn the aerial action Hold the grab button to use an enemy as the starting point for Mine's aerial attack. The follow-up depends on what you press: a light attack continues pressure, a heavy attack gives you a wider strike, and the grab input produces a grab follow-up. The heavy follow-up is especially useful when several enemies are close together. You can also let the initial action resolve without selecting another target. Combat breakdown: https://famitsu.com/article/202602/65545 Practice the move against ordinary street enemies first. Aim for a group you can see clearly, watch where Mine lands, then reset your position. It is much easier to learn the spacing there than while a boss and several extra enemies are attacking you. Don't ignore defense Perfect Quicksteps create an opening for a critical counter. Against an aura-covered enemy, critical attacks help break that aura. Grabs and aerial attacks are also answers to enemies blocking your ordinary strings. Defensive mechanics: https://manual.sega.jp/ryu-kiwami3/en/ If an enemy is interrupting you, shorten the combination. Let the enemy finish, punish the opening, and move again. Buying more damage won't teach you when it is safe to keep attacking. Buy tools you will use Mine's upgrades cost money. Some useful early purchases are Backhand Barrage for a held light-attack option, Rising Knee for a charged heavy attack, Improved Quickstep for consecutive dodges, and On Your Feet for dealing with downed enemies. Follow the connections in the upgrade tree rather than expecting every node to be immediately purchasable. Mine's upgrade tree: https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-3-dark-ties/guides/Upgrades-Abilities I would put money into both health and attack, then add a defensive improvement and a move I can reliably use. That leaves you with a functional set of tools instead of a long list of purchases you never remember during a fight. Use Dark Awakening deliberately Attacking fills the Shackled Hearts. Spending them activates Dark Awakening, and holding the activation input spends additional hearts for a stronger version. Dark Deliverance unlocks the three-heart version. Dark Restoration lets Perfect Quicksteps contribute to filling hearts, while other upgrades expand the duration and related options. Save a larger commitment for a dangerous opponent or an opening you can exploit. The point is to get useful damage out of the resource, not to finish every encounter with a full set of unused hearts. Keep the economy moving Good Deeds and Kanda rank rewards provide money for upgrades. Hell's Arena supplies another source once it opens. Make those activities part of the progression rather than buying upgrades only after the story starts feeling difficult. Money and rank rewards: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps5/562181-yakuza-kiwami-3-and-dark-ties/faqs/82373/kanda-damage-control For Survival Hell, normal character upgrades are only one part of preparation. Gospels and your arena loadout matter too. If Mine handles street fights comfortably but barely damages dungeon enemies, check the mode-specific progression before spending everything on another ordinary stat increase.
