Yakuza Kiwami 3: fishing without wasting your bait
Fishing in the 2026 remake is a harpoon game. The old Yakuza 3 advice about rod tension and reeling does not apply.
Head to the fishing equipment on Morning Glory’s beach, near the fish icon on the western side. You can also use the shisa travel points around the orphanage to go straight to the fishing spot.
Your first visit supplies the Dull Harpoon and starter bait. Move the aiming cursor, hold the throw input to charge, then release to fire. Use the on-screen controls for your platform.
The run has two parts: catch enough ordinary fish before time expires, then defeat the large fish in the bonus round. The ordinary-fish target is a number of catches, not their total size or value.
The three difficulties are:
- Beginner: Cheap Fish Bait, 40 seconds, five fish. The large catch is a Marlin.
- Intermediate: Normal Fish Bait, 45 seconds, seven fish. The large catch is a Bluefin Tuna.
- Advanced: Outstanding Fish Bait, 50 seconds, nine fish. The large catch is an Oarfish.
Successfully catch the Beginner boss to unlock Intermediate, then catch the Intermediate boss to unlock Advanced. Each large-fish round gives you 20 seconds.
Upgrade the harpoon before spending your better bait. The Neighborhood Shop sells the Normal Harpoon for 20,000, the Nice Harpoon for 50,000 at shop rank 2, and the Best Harpoon for 100,000 at shop rank 3. Those prices use Morning Glory shop funds, not Kiryu’s ordinary spending money.
You do not have to buy the weaker upgrades first. If you are close to rank 3, saving for the Best Harpoon avoids buying equipment you will immediately replace. Better harpoons charge faster, which matters much more against the timed large catches than another rushed attempt with weak equipment.
For the opening phase, aim for clean, easy catches. A small fish directly in front of the cursor is often more useful than chasing a fast eel across the screen. Avoid changing targets halfway through a charge unless the original shot is clearly gone.
For the large catch, watch its route rather than following every movement. Set up a charged shot where it slows or turns. The red eye is the weak point. Take the eye shot when you can line it up reliably; repeated misses while chasing it will cost more than a solid body hit.
The ordinary fish pools also matter if you are collecting ingredients:
- Beginner: Flounder, Prawn, Salmon, Scorpionfish and Sea Bream.
- Intermediate: Flounder, Prawn, Salmon, Scorpionfish, Bonito and Eel.
- Advanced: Flounder, Prawn, Salmon, Scorpionfish, Sea Bream, Bonito and Eel.
Keep fish needed for cooking requests before selling your stock. Bait can come from the Neighborhood Shop and exploration rewards, including Loveboxes and briefcases. Check what you already own before buying more.
Swimming is a separate option. You can enter the sea and collect fish directly without starting the harpoon minigame. It is useful while gathering other beach materials, and the Training List separately tracks collecting underwater items at 10, 20 and 30.
For a thorough fishing cleanup, catch the large fish on all three difficulties, collect the ingredients your cooking requests still need, and finish any fishing requests shown on the shop’s board. Those are different goals from the underwater collection counter. Do not assume that finishing a harpoon run advances every beach-related objective.
