All right, let's get into Amon in Yakuza Kiwami 2. This time Kiryu has four separate fights to get through, and they don't all ask you to do the same thing.
Kazuya brings axes. Jiro brings a gun. Sango brings a rocket launcher. Jo apparently looks at all of that and decides he still needs more swords.
The biggest thing to understand is the shield. For the first three, you can survive until it drops. Jo's final shield doesn't work that way. If you keep running around waiting for the same opening, you're going to be there a long time.
**How to unlock the fights**
Finish all 71 non-Amon substories. That includes the Four Shine stories and the ones requiring Haruka, so Chapter 13 is the earliest you can complete the full setup.
The order is Kazuya, Jiro, Sango, then Jo. These are substories 38, 39, 40, and 41, not four consecutive entries at the bottom of the list.
Start with Kazuya at Shichifuku Parking Lot. If he isn't there, check the actual substory list. Bouncer Mission victories against the Amons do not replace their substory fights. [Unlock requirements](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/substories/substories04.html)
You don't need to do the entire Completion List before fighting them. You need the other substories. That's still a fair amount of work, but it's a different requirement from clearing every minigame and every Bouncer Mission.
**What I'd prepare first**
Make a separate save before each fight. Fill your health, bring plenty of recovery items, and check your equipped gear rather than walking in with whatever you used for the last side activity.
These are ordinary substory fights. You CAN use healing items. Don't accidentally impose the Bouncer Mission restriction on yourself.
Health and defense are worth investing in. You don't need to turn this into a no-damage challenge unless that's what you want, but you do need enough room to survive a mistake and recover from it.
The Heavenly Beasts Bracelet is one of the most useful pieces here. You get it from The Cabaret Killer, which you will already have finished to unlock Amon. It protects against status ailments. Sacred Wood Armor helps against gunfire while blocking. Neither piece makes you immune to every kind of damage. [Equipment effects](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/gear)
If you haven't collected bullet protection, An Explosive Plot on Normal gives Sacred Wood Armor (Replica). The Sex-starved Samurai on Normal gives the stronger Sacred Wood Armor. Those are Bouncer Mission rewards, so you can get them before tackling the Amon substories. [Replica reward](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/BM-ExplosivePlot) | [Armor reward](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/BM-SexStarvedSamurai)
Use your third gear slot for protection or damage that suits the fight. Check for anything that intentionally makes enemies stronger, and remove it unless you're deliberately increasing the challenge.
I'd bring different weapon types, not three copies of the same thing. That gives you more Heat Actions to work with. The first good Heat Action can do a lot of damage; repeating the same one throughout the fight isn't a plan I'd rely on.
**You have options besides expensive endgame weapons**
Dragon Sticks are an infinite-durability option from Ukyo the Bridge Guard's Street Boss fight. You need Kali Stick Mastery to equip them. A durable weapon means you aren't suddenly left with a broken one halfway through an attempt.
If you have the money, Kamiyama sells Photon Blade W after you've sold him ¥3,000,000 worth of equipment. It costs ¥6,000,000 and uses kali-stick mastery. Photon Blade RG is the infinite-durability katana available in Premium Adventure for ¥5,000,000. [Weapon availability](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/weapons)
Those are helpful options, not a requirement to delay the fights until after the story. You can use other weapons, recovery items, and charged attacks. Just don't follow a guide recommending a Premium Adventure purchase and wonder why the shop doesn't sell it during Chapter 13.
Lotus Fists of Fury is useful for Jo. Finish Granny's final request with Haruka, use the Scroll of Furious Fists, and buy the unlocked ability. It lets you chain charged light attacks. [Granny's reward](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Substories61-76)
**Kazuya Amon: Shichifuku Parking Lot**
Kazuya fights with a weapon in each hand. He uses a kali-stick-style sequence, and his axes aren't something to stand in front of with an ordinary bare-handed guard. As his health falls, he becomes more aggressive and eventually brings up the shield. [Kazuya's attacks](https://yakuza.fandom.com/wiki/Kazuya_Amon)
I'd start by giving him room to finish an attack, moving around the swing, then taking a short punish. A charged hit or a weapon Heat Action in a real opening is much safer than trying to trade through the axes.
Don't get so interested in finishing a combo that you stop watching him. If he has recovered and started attacking, the opening is over. Back out and make another one.
When the shield appears, stop spending Heat on attacks that aren't taking anything off the health bar. You can keep your distance until it expires. Normal Photon Blade attacks are another way to keep pressure on a shielded Amon, if you have one. [Shield options](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/chapter-13-substories)
There is no bonus for refusing to heal. If the attempt is going well and you're low, use the item before the next hit lands.
**Jiro Amon: behind Serena**
Jiro has a submachine gun, status effects, and flash grenades. Bring the Heavenly Beasts Bracelet and bullet protection rather than assuming your Kazuya setup is automatically the best one here. His shield is temporary too. [Jiro's fighting style](https://yakuza.fandom.com/wiki/Jiro_Amon)
Don't chase straight into sustained fire with an attack already queued up. Keep him in front of you, defend while closing the distance, and attack when you actually have room to do it. Blocking protection doesn't protect every moment of an attacking animation or make your exposed back safe.
The stairs behind Serena give you cover while the shield is active. Break his line of fire, let the shield phase pass, then go back in. [Serena cover](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/chapter-13-substories)
This is also where it's worth slowing down enough to look at your equipment description. Sacred Wood Armor is for bullets. It isn't a promise that any explosion, melee hit, or badly positioned attack will do nothing.
If you keep dying while trying to force another Heat Action, stop trying to force it. Survive the bad phase, heal, and spend the Heat when it can actually help finish the fight.
**Sango Amon: Theater Square**
Sango's rocket launcher is the reason I wouldn't enter these fights with a nearly empty health bar and one healing drink. The damage can arrive very quickly. He also uses the weapon at close range, so getting near him doesn't mean the danger has ended. [Sango's weapon](https://yakuza.fandom.com/wiki/Sango_Amon)
Keep pressure on him while he's vulnerable. Use an opening for a Heat Action or a short weapon sequence, then check his position again. If he gets space, expect him to use it.
The structure on the west side of Theater Square is useful cover. During his shield, circle it instead of standing in the open waiting for him to reload. Once the shield is down, resume attacking. [Theater Square cover](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/chapter-13-substories)
Heal early. Waiting until the health bar is nearly gone is a bad habit against somebody carrying a rocket launcher. A recovery item sitting in your inventory after you lose didn't save you anything.
**Jo Amon: The Ultimate Assassin**
After Sango, visit Komaki in the Champion District lot. Then go to the lower atrium inside Millennium Tower to find Jo. Make your save and finish your preparation before starting the conversation. [Final fight location](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/substories/substories05.html)
Jo changes weapons as the fight progresses. He begins with a katana, moves to a light blade, then becomes especially dangerous with his flaming sword. The final phase has two swords and the shield. [Jo's weapon phases](https://yakuza.fandom.com/wiki/Jo_Amon)
Early on, use the room to make him miss, then punish the recovery. Keep some distance between exchanges rather than standing beside him waiting to see what he does next. The Heavenly Beasts Bracelet helps with the status effects, but you still have to respect the actual sword damage.
The flaming-sword phase is where you should stop depending on a normal guard. Move away from the attack, let it finish, and use a weapon Heat Action when you have a safe opening. If you're being hit repeatedly, heal and reset the distance instead of trying to win the trade. [Dangerous sword phase](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/substories/substories05.html)
Once the dual swords and shield appear, change your approach. This shield doesn't simply expire like the other three. His defense goes up, and Heat Actions can become much less useful. Keep dealing ordinary weapon damage or use charged attacks in the openings you can manage. Watch the health bar to see what is actually working. [Final shield](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Substories31-45)
Lotus Fists of Fury gives you a repeatable charged-attack option. A Photon Blade is another useful choice. Neither means you should ignore your own health and hold forward until the fight ends.
Jo can spin through a wide area and leave dangerous grenades behind him. Don't follow every retreat immediately. Look at where you're about to step, let the attack finish, then go back in.
The last phase can feel slow because the same attacks that looked great earlier are barely moving the bar. That's the point where patience matters most. Keep using the attacks that connect, keep healing, and don't throw away the entire attempt for one extra hit.
**What to collect afterward**
Jo's defeat earns Amon Defeated and finishes the substory set. You'll receive the Book of Ultimate Secrets. Use it, then check the ability it opens. Kamiyama also adds the Weaponomicon for ¥9,990,000, which is needed for Weapon Mastery. [Books and skill requirements](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/technique-primers)
If you're already Rank S in the Coliseum, completing the substories lets you enter the Tournament of Darkness. The rank requirement still applies. [Final tournament](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/coliseum)
All four Amons can also join Majima Construction after you find them again:
- Kazuya: nook south of the East Shichifuku Poppo.
- Jiro: stairs west of Ringer Hut, toward Theater Square.
- Sango: small area north of the Showa Street Poppo, near the vending machines.
- Jo: Serena's rooftop.
Speak to them to recruit them. Winning the fight doesn't automatically put them on your roster. [Amon recruitment](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/construction-employees)
For these fights, preparation takes a lot of the frustration out of it. Use the gear you earned, bring enough recovery items, and don't treat every shield like it's the same mechanic.
The first three give you a reason to back off and wait. Jo gives you a reason to change how you're attacking. Knowing which one you're dealing with matters a lot more than trying to prove you can take another sword to the face.
All right, let's get into Amon in Yakuza Kiwami 2. This time Kiryu has four separate fights to get through, and they don't all ask you to do the same thing.
