All right, next is the Street Bosses and the Coliseum in Yakuza Kiwami 2. These are worth doing for more than the trophies. You can get weapons, construction recruits, and two of Kiryu's abilities out of them, and a couple of substories send you into the arena anyway. The part I want to clear up first is the Street Boss counter. Running around beating up everybody you see will eventually get some of this done, but there is a reason you can spend a long time fighting and still be missing one particular boss. The game is tracking different groups in different cities. It isn't one big total. **Getting all 18 Street Bosses to appear** This starts in Chapter 5, when Komaki's pupil introduces the system. There are three enemy types: delinquents, thugs, and yakuza. Each city has its own three chains, and each chain has three bosses. Beat five groups of one type, defeat the boss that appears, then beat another five groups of that type for the next boss. Do that once more for the last one. That gives you nine bosses in Kamurocho and nine in Sotenbori. Count encounters, not individual people. A group with four enemies doesn't give you four encounters. Majima Saga fights also aren't a substitute for Kiryu doing these chains. [Street Boss requirements](https://trueachievements.com/a304930/champion-of-the-city-achievement) Go after the boss when the message arrives. Continuing to fight the same enemy type while that boss is waiting doesn't build a useful reserve for the next boss. If the email or marker seems slow to appear, move away from the boss's location and change areas before deciding the counter is broken. [Spawn and counter details](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/cheats-data/encount-bosses.html) I would keep six little checklists, one for each city and enemy type. That's much easier than trying to remember whether the ten yakuza groups you fought were in Kamurocho or Sotenbori. **Kamurocho bosses** These are listed in the order they appear within each chain. The weapon after the location is the reward. Delinquents: - Fatal Fukishima: Fusion entrance, northern Senryo Avenue. Saw. - Convenience Store Hunter Saito: West Shichifuku Poppo. High-voltage Stun Gun. - Samurai Mask: East Taihei Boulevard parking lot. Sacred Wood Katana. Thugs: - Knockout Fujiki: Children's Park. Steel Knuckles. - Muscleman Fujiki: Hotel District, north of the batting center. Stun Grenade. - Stealthy Kurosawa: southern Senryo Avenue. Patriarch's Bat. Yakuza: - Nutjob Natagiri: Park Boulevard, between Dragon Palace and the gravure studio. Chinese Cleaver. - Fire Karasawa: Pink Street near Shine. Modded Model Gun. - Genso the God: Suppon Street. Hammer. [Kamurocho boss locations and rewards](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/street-bosses) **Sotenbori bosses** Delinquents: - Slayer Nagasawa: east of Gandhara. Crowbar. - Minegishi the Breaker: Riichi Tower Mahjong entrance. Double Spiker. - Iron Fist Sakai: Kinryu Ramen area. Electric Police Baton. Thugs: - Nagafuchi the Skanda: northeastern Poppo. Long Dagger. - Sakyo the Weapon Hunter: Bishamon Bridge. Nameless Katana. - Ukyo the Bridge Guard: Iwao Bridge. Dragon Sticks. Yakuza: - Mysterious Assassin: Yotsudera Kaikan rooftop, southwest of town. Dark Wood Sword. - Tsujimoto the Bloodletter: west of Gandhara. Flash Bang. - Golden Kanamoto: alley behind the Karaoke Snack Bar building. Ninja Dagger. [Sotenbori boss data](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/cheats-data/encount-bosses.html) **Finding the enemy type you're missing** For Kamurocho delinquents, check Theater Square and Nakamichi Street. Thugs are worth looking for around the Champion District, Park Boulevard, and Hotel District. For yakuza, try Millennium Tower, Pink Street, and Tenkaichi Street. In Sotenbori, check southern Shofukucho and the river paths for delinquents. Look around Shofukucho and the Grand for thugs. Yakuza are often around the western side of town, between the Grand and the southwestern parking area. [Useful encounter areas](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3726966459) Those are places to look, not reserved spawn points. Check the enemy label when the fight begins. Otherwise, you can convince yourself you've done fifteen yakuza encounters when half of them were thugs. If you're doing this alongside substories, clear the boss before resuming your errands. You keep progressing the chain without turning the whole thing into one long lap around the same street. Ukyo's [Dragon Sticks](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/weapons) are particularly useful because they don't wear out. You still need Kali Stick Mastery before Kiryu can use that weapon type properly. The Filipino Ace video from Kamiyama becomes available in Chapter 8; watch it at a video shop and purchase the unlocked ability. [Weapon training](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/video-shops) Defeating all 18 earns Champion of the City and opens Triple Quickstep for purchase. Check the abilities menu afterward. Unlocking a skill's condition isn't the same as spending the experience to learn it. [Skill requirements](https://trueachievements.com/a304898/battle-skills-master-achievement) **Don't leave the recruits behind** Some of these fights also give you construction employees after you return and speak to the defeated boss. Check Fatal Fukishima, Knockout Fujiki, Muscleman Fujiki, Genso the God, Slayer Nagasawa, Nagafuchi the Skanda, Ukyo the Bridge Guard, and Tsujimoto the Bloodletter. The Coliseum has recruits too. Beat eligible opponents, then look for them around Purgatory or the construction site rather than assuming the victory automatically hired them. Akira Yamaoka and Komaki are especially useful additions. Komaki stands in the construction area above ground. [Recruitment locations](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/construction-employees) That's a good reason to do some of this before finishing Clan Creator instead of saving every optional fight for the very end. **Opening the Coliseum** The story takes you there in Chapter 5. Finish the introduction to Majima Construction afterward, and you can return for the optional tournaments. The entrance is in Underground Purgatory, reached through the West Park area. [Chapter 5 unlock](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Chapter5) Ordinary tournaments require three consecutive wins. Battle royales put eight fighters in the arena and ask you to be the last one standing. You cannot open the item menu and heal your way through a bad round. Restore your health before entering, and set up your equipment before choosing a tournament. The weapon and gear restrictions change between events. Treat the rule screen as part of your preparation, especially once armed opponents start appearing in events where Kiryu has to fight bare-handed. [Coliseum rules](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Coliseum) My advice is to do a few early tournaments, then come back as your build improves. Opening the arena doesn't mean you're supposed to finish everything with Chapter 5 stats. You can't unlock the entire tournament list that early anyway. **All 12 tournaments** At the start: - Rising Wind Tournament: bare-handed. Toughness ZZ. - Lawless Tournament: weapons and gear allowed. Nourishment of the Sea King. Rank D: - Tempest Tournament: bare-handed. Tauriner +. - Insane Battle Royale: eight fighters, weapons falling into the arena. Staminan Royale. Rank C: - Inferno Tournament: weapons allowed, fire hazards. Refreshment of the Sky King. - Shockwave Tournament: weapons allowed, electrified wall. Nutriment of the Conquering Emperor. Rank B: - Cataclysm Tournament: bare-handed. Staminan XX. - Carnage Tournament: Kiryu cannot bring weapons or gear, but opponents can be armed. Payback Ring first, Silver Plate afterward. Rank A: - Inferno Battle Royale: eight fighters and fire hazards. Tauriner Maximum. - Shockwave Battle Royale: eight fighters and an electrified wall. Toughness Infinity. - Tournament of Legends: also requires finishing Clan Creator's story. Champion's Ring first, Silver Plate afterward. Rank S: - Tournament of Darkness: also requires all substories. G-B-H-G first, Gold Plate afterward. [Tournament ranks and conditions](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/coliseum) | [Rewards](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Coliseum) Battle royales don't let you bring your own weapons and gear. Use what drops. Legends is another bare-handed tournament; Darkness allows your equipped weapons and gear. For the final two, the extra requirement doesn't replace the rank requirement. Finishing Clan Creator alone doesn't unlock Legends at a low rank. Finishing the substories alone doesn't unlock Darkness before Rank S. [Final tournament unlocks](https://steamcommunity.com/app/927380/discussions/0/1644290549114840486/) The Champion's Ring is not an ordinary piece of equipment to put on because the name sounds good. It makes enemies more dangerous. Read its description before equipping it for your next attempt. [Equipment effects](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/gear) **Getting your rank up without making it miserable** The result screen rewards how you fight, not just whether you win. Clear new tournaments for their first-win bonus. In repeat tournaments, work several different useful actions into a clean run: a charged hit, a guard break, a dodge, a Heat Action, and an Extreme Heat activation when it makes sense. Bonuses are awarded by category. Repeating a taunt over and over is not a points machine. A no-damage round, a fast win, and a Heat finisher can all help, but don't throw away the tournament trying to force one bonus. Taking too long can also cost you the performance bonuses. [Scoring breakdown](https://dswiipspwikips3.jp/yakuza-kiwami2/cheats-data/underground-coliseum.html) Shockwave Battle Royale is a popular Rank S farming choice, especially after Chapter 12 adds the animal opponents and their scoring opportunities. [Rank farming suggestion](https://trueachievements.com/a609638/half-performance-half-raw-power-achievement) That doesn't make it the best choice for every build. If you spend ages chasing somebody while the other fighters knock you into the wall, a tournament you can clear consistently may work out better. Compare a few result screens and the time each run takes. A bigger number at the end isn't automatically a faster grind. For a battle royale, keep everybody in view. Let enemies damage each other while you create openings, but don't stand around waiting for the arena to finish the whole job. A healthy opponent left alone can be a much bigger problem once it's just the two of you. For Shockwave, stay aware of the wall behind Kiryu before committing to a long attack. For Inferno, don't keep chasing damage into an active hazard. Moving back toward space you can actually fight in is often worth more than one extra punch. **Komaki and Akira Yamaoka** These are the opponents that punish the habit of rushing in and doing the same full combo every time. Give yourself enough room to see their attack. Dodge or parry it, use a charged attack in the opening, then reset instead of standing there trading. Extreme Heat gives you a stronger punish, and a charged heavy hit can lead into a Heat follow-up when the prompt appears. Tiger Drop is another option once you have it, but it still needs timing. [Specific fight advice](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/answers/571114-how-do-you-beat-komaki-and-akira) I wouldn't build the whole attempt around landing a counter you're still learning. Practice the timing on easier encounters first. In the arena, a smaller punish you can repeat safely is better than one huge hit followed by losing most of your health. Against grapplers, remember that blocking isn't an answer to a grab. Against an armed opponent, don't assume the tournament's restriction has taken their weapon away just because it took yours. These are simple things, but the harder events give you very little room to forget them. **The Coliseum fights tied to other progress** An Ancient Rivalry sends you after Gensho Kawauchi. Start the substory with Kawauchi's students on the southern Sotenbori Footpath, then look for a Jujutsu opponent in the Tempest Tournament preview. Kiyoshi Muroi uses that style too, so check who you actually fought. After beating Kawauchi, leave the tournament menu and finish the conversations, including returning to Motoe Kawauchi in Sotenbori. [An Ancient Rivalry](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/Substories61-76) Komaki's Coliseum defeat also matters for the acupuncture lessons. Finish his training, beat him in the arena, then return to the acupuncturist for the relevant treatment. Don't confuse this with Tiger Drop's separate Chapter 12 requirement. [Acupuncture conditions](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/218734-yakuza-kiwami-2/faqs/76366/acupuncturist) For Darkness, prepare for an Amon in the final round. Bring good weapons, fill your health beforehand, and save enough Heat to deal with the last opponent. This is a different situation from fighting an ordinary street group with a few healing drinks in your pocket. **What counts as finished** For Street Bosses, defeat all 18 with Kiryu and purchase Triple Quickstep once it's available. For the Coliseum, win all 12 different tournaments for Half Performance, Half Raw Power. That also opens Strong Charge Attack Mastery; you still need its ability prerequisites and the experience to buy it. Finish the separate 30-win entry on the Completion List as well. Check the list itself instead of assuming the trophy means every arena-related requirement is done. [Completion requirements](https://neoseeker.com/yakuza-kiwami-2/walkthrough/CompletionList) The order I'd use is early Street Boss chains, a few arena wins, recruits for Majima Construction, then the harder tournaments as Kiryu improves. Finish Clan Creator and the substories, unlock the last two events, and clean up whatever the Completion List still shows. That way, the rewards help you while you're still playing through the rest of the game. You aren't doing all this work just to finally unlock something after you no longer have anything left to use it on.
