SCP-181 is a man who keeps surviving things that should have killed him. He was serving a life sentence for repeatedly defrauding the Nevada Gaming Commission before the Foundation took him into its D-class program. At first, nobody realized there was anything unusual about him. He was another person being sent into dangerous experiments. Then his survival started to stand out. During one experiment, another test subject went on a killing spree, but an armed team stopped him before SCP-181 was killed. In a later test, SCP-181 avoided the corrosive snail, SCP-075, three separate times. He also managed to spend an entire week with SCP-082, the cannibal. Eventually, someone started looking at how often this guy was getting through situations like that. The smaller tests were just as strange. He nearly managed fifty heads in a row with a coin. He rolled twenty-five sevens with a pair of dice and pulled all thirteen hearts out of a normal deck of cards. There was no indication that he knew how to do any of it. Probability was changing around him without him consciously controlling it. One experiment makes that especially clear. Another anomalous object repeatedly landed on a green circle before finally stopping on a red triangle. A tremor caused by an unrelated incident shook the facility and knocked it back onto a green circle. Even when the result seemed settled, something else happened to change it. For a while, the Foundation kept him with the other D-class personnel and quietly spared him from their scheduled termination. Staff were told not to treat him differently, and he was barred from new or Keter-class testing. Then an audit found that deaths and injuries across the area had increased during his confinement. That's where the file changes. His survival starts looking dangerous for the people around him. The explanation is heavily redacted, so saying he definitely steals a fixed amount of luck from somebody else goes further than the article does. What it gives us is an increase in casualties and a concern that the effects could extend much further. He ends up in solitary confinement with almost no human contact. Tests also show that removing chance from an event weakens his influence. There are limits, but no clean answer. The Foundation has found a man who keeps surviving, and keeping everybody else safe means leaving him almost completely alone. https://t.co/tsKOSMMZ4o
