Spoilers for Van Helsing vs. Dracula’s Daughter. Liesel Van Helsing and Dracula’s daughter have a much more complicated connection than their fathers being enemies. They have the same mother. Liesel’s parents are Abraham Van Helsing and Elizabeth. Elizabeth later has a relationship with Dracula, who turns her into a vampire. When Abraham finally finds her, she’s pregnant with Dracula’s child. Abraham had believed his wife was dead. Then he saw her with Dracula at a train station and realized she was still out there. By the time he catches up with them, Elizabeth is trying to leave Dracula herself. She writes him a letter saying that his efforts to protect them have turned him into the thing he fears. She wants to get her baby away from all of it. But Abraham gets there before she can leave. He kills Elizabeth because she has become a vampire. From his point of view, he couldn’t save his wife, but he could at least let her rest. Then Dracula comes back and finds her dead. He hears the baby’s heartbeat and realizes his daughter is still alive. He deliberately hides that from Abraham because he’s afraid Abraham will kill her too. Abraham stakes Dracula and cuts off his head, believing he has finished it. Before leaving, he promises Elizabeth that Liesel will never know what happened to her mother. Except Dracula survives. After Abraham leaves, he takes the surviving baby into his arms and calls her Charlotte. Later, he arranges for her to be cared for somewhere far away, where his enemies can’t use her to hurt him. That baby is Charlotte le Fanu, Dracula’s daughter. Liesel’s half-sister. So the connection isn’t that Dracula is secretly Liesel’s father. Abraham is her father. Elizabeth had a daughter with Abraham and another daughter with Dracula. And Abraham killed the mother they both share without knowing the second daughter would survive. That puts a lot more behind a story called Van Helsing vs. Dracula’s Daughter than two daughters continuing their fathers’ fight.
