Spoilers for the final castle battle in the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
The final battle at Talmberg, in An Oath is an Oath, gave me a lot of trouble. I wanted to put together what helped me because there are a few small things that make this fight easier to deal with.
The biggest thing for me was staying around the edges and letting the other soldiers do a lot of the fighting. You can still help quite a bit without putting Henry in the middle of everyone.
Before you tell Robard you're ready, get yourself ready. That conversation starts the attack. Heal up, sleep, eat, and check the condition of your armour and weapon. Keep a save from before the assault so you have somewhere useful to go back to if it goes badly.
Bring bandages and healing potions, but don't count on opening your inventory and healing while someone is hitting you. Bandages stop bleeding; they don't refill your health. If you want to use a potion before the fight, do it before you get pulled into combat.
When you reach the ladders, let the other soldiers go up first. I waited until six allies had climbed before I went up. That's the timing I used, rather than a rule that the game needs exactly six people before something happens. The useful part is having other people up there fighting before you step into it yourself.
When I got to the top, I went right and worked my way around the battlements. I stayed up there fighting while our soldiers were clearing the area below. That gave the lower fight some time to move along before I reached it.
That's the route I used. Keep an eye on where your own soldiers actually are, though. If there's still an enemy beside the ladder or behind you, don't ignore him just to keep moving right. You want to work through the wall with support, without leaving yourself caught between two groups.
Once the fighting starts, look for enemies who are already occupied with somebody else. Get around the side or behind them, take an opening, and move back when they turn on you. If several enemies start coming after you, pull back toward your soldiers instead of trying to fight all of them in that narrow space.
Watch your stamina while you're doing it. Attacking and ordinary blocking both use it, and running it down leaves you much more vulnerable. Get a hit or two in when there's room, then give yourself a chance to recover. You don't need to keep swinging just because the enemy is still standing.
Be careful of your own men, too. There's very little room on parts of those walls. A straight stab is easier to place between people than a big swing. If you're using a bow, wait for a clear shot instead of firing through the group. Keep an eye out for enemy archers while you're concentrating on the people directly in front of you.
When you move down toward the courtyard, keep doing the same thing. Stay near your allies, work from the outside, and help with the enemies they are already fighting. There's no reason to run past your own men and meet the next group alone.
If Bernard ends up surrounded on the walls and the fight seems to be going nowhere, try taking some of the pressure off him. Catch an enemy from the side or draw one away toward support. A soldier getting hit by several people at once may have very little opportunity to hit back. Standing there waiting can leave you watching the same fight for a long time.
I also ran into what seemed like a repeating problem where a lot of my allies died right away and the battle kept going badly. If that keeps happening, my suggestion is to fully close the game, launch it again, and load your save from before the attack. You can try reloading the save on its own first, but closing and reopening the game is a separate step. You don't need to start a new playthrough.
I don't know whether what I ran into was an actual bug, and I wouldn't promise that restarting will fix it. Your allies can also get overwhelmed in this fight. It's something to try if the same strange behaviour keeps repeating, rather than a reason to restart every time a soldier dies.
For me, the useful part was letting the soldiers get up the ladder first, working around the battlements, and picking enemies off from the edges. Take your time and keep helping the people beside you. You don't have to fight the whole castle yourself.
