**Far Cry 6 Editions, Co-op Saves and New Game+: What Carries Over**
Far Cry 6 has enough edition names and progression systems to make a simple question surprisingly awkward. Buying a version with extra gear does not necessarily include the story expansions. Helping a friend finish a mission does not move your own campaign to the same point. Starting New Game+ changes the world even when Dani brings equipment along.
Here is how to sort those decisions before buying content, arranging a co-op run or starting over.
**Read the contents before the edition name**
Ubisoft's edition breakdown lists:
- **Standard:** the base game.
- **Deluxe:** the base game and Ultimate Pack.
- **Gold:** the base game and Season Pass.
- **Game of the Year:** the base game, Season Pass, Ultimate Pack and Lost Between Worlds.
- **Collector's:** the base game, Season Pass and Ultimate Pack, plus the physical collector items listed for that package.
The **Ultimate Pack** is the Jungle Expedition, Croc Hunter and Vice equipment content. It is separate from the **Season Pass**, whose main story attractions are Vaas: Insanity, Pagan: Control and Joseph: Collapse. The pass also includes Blood Dragon content; check the platform-specific version named in the listing.
**Lost Between Worlds is a separate expansion.** A Gold or original Ultimate package should not be assumed to include it. The original Ultimate Edition combined the base game, Season Pass and Ultimate Pack; the later Game of the Year bundle adds Lost Between Worlds. For an existing owner, compare the missing content against the add-on listing. Buying a second copy of the base game may be unnecessary. With a physical or second-hand package, check whether its extras are supplied through an unused code; the box's edition name alone cannot establish what remains redeemable.
**Unlock campaign co-op first**
Campaign co-op opens after **Du or Die** on Isla Santuario. Once the game announces that it is available, open the co-op icon near the upper-right corner of the menu.
The choices cover three different intentions:
- **Play with a friend:** invite someone you know.
- **Search for a partner:** host a session for a matched partner.
- **Be a partner:** join somebody else's world.
Co-op supports **two players online**, with no local split-screen mode. Plan on separate systems and access to the game rather than expecting a second controller to add a player. [Co-op setup and menu options](https://t.co/qdRrEhbAvy), [player-count and local-play limits](https://t.co/EhwCiPT7Q0).
Agree on the host before starting a long story session. That choice determines whose campaign you are advancing.
**What the guest keeps**
In the main campaign, **story progress is saved for the host**. The guest returns to the story position they had in their own world. Ubisoft lists the guest's retained gains as ammunition, buffs, camp resources, gadget ammunition, collected items, Guerrilla Experience, purchased items and upgraded items.
That makes joining useful for equipment and experience, but it does not give two separate saves an identical mission history. If both players want their own campaign advanced through the same missions, plan for separate host runs rather than discovering the difference at the end of the evening.
The villain DLC has another distinction. Guests retain collectibles, currency, permanent traits and temporary powers, while **Mind Level progress and weapon unlocks/upgrades are retained by the host**. Check which player wants those unlocks before committing to a long escape attempt. [Ubisoft's co-op progression rules](https://t.co/pjxV0qXBQn).
[Lost Between Worlds is a single-player expansion](https://t.co/OVLBed6JiJ). The campaign's co-op support does not automatically extend to every add-on attached to its store page.
**Cross-generation play and moving a save**
Far Cry 6 supports co-op within a console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. It does not offer a PlayStation-to-Xbox or PC-to-console co-op session. **Cross-progression** is a different feature, allowing progress to move between platforms. [Ubisoft's cross-play explanation](https://t.co/mLeSI3YEx2).
A transferable save does not make two incompatible platforms able to play together. It also should not be treated as a promise that every purchased add-on licence follows you to another store. Check the destination platform's entitlements separately.
There are three save slots, and campaign and expansion progress share the selected slot. Before opening an expansion or starting another run, confirm that you selected the intended save. [Saved-game management](https://t.co/IE0ydZvV6C).
**New Game+: equipment returns, the campaign restarts**
To start New Game+, your **last-played save must have completed the main campaign**, and an empty slot is required. The game uses the most recently played completed save.
Missions, military installations, treasure hunts, races, hideouts, intel and map fog reset. Most equipment returns through progression gates: the Veteran's Stash follows **The Lucky One**, rides return after **Fuel the Revolution**, and some other items wait until you leave Santuario or complete their associated missions.
**Pesos, Moneda, uranium and resource inventories do not carry over.** Camp and Amigo access also depend on their relevant unlocks. Do not expect the fully liberated map or every service from the old save to be waiting immediately. [Official New Game+ rules and full retention list](https://t.co/uIxIaIYNDy).
Keep your completed campaign slot if you still want to roam around that version of Yara. Use the new slot for the fresh run, and read the selection screen carefully before confirming.
**Choose Guerrilla Mode deliberately**
Guerrilla Mode makes combat tougher and reduces ammunition, gadgets and pickups. Start a new game to use it; difficulty cannot be lowered afterward. Some HUD elements begin disabled but can be re-enabled. [Title Update 5 difficulty notes](https://t.co/gOxLaFFzCP).
If you want a relaxed return trip, consider that restriction before choosing it. Familiarity with the map and a willingness to restart fights are different things; choose the setting for the kind of run you actually want now.
**Treat old crossover announcements carefully**
The launch-era roadmap advertised Danny Trejo, Rambo and Stranger Things crossover missions. Those announcements remain online, but they are historical promotion rather than a guarantee of permanent access. Later player reports describe those missions disappearing, including reports still current in 2026. [Original roadmap](https://t.co/tRivN3zHxu), [September 2026 availability discussion](https://t.co/aZLJseN9bp).
Do not buy an edition solely to obtain one of those old missions. Check the current entitlement and in-game offering first. Their absence should not be confused with failing to purchase the three villain episodes or Lost Between Worlds.
The useful habit through all of this is simple: check what the action changes before confirming it. An edition changes ownership, a co-op invitation chooses a world, and New Game+ starts a fresh campaign. Keeping those separate makes the rest much easier to follow.
