**Far Cry 5: Opening Hope County and Getting Through the Hard Story Missions**
Hope County opens up quickly. Once Dutch’s island is finished, you can head for the farms, the mountains or the river country. The bigger restriction comes from the resistance meter: ordinary exploration can push the story forward, and the cult eventually comes looking for you.
That makes a little preparation worthwhile. Carry something effective at medium range, keep healing supplies topped up, and avoid filling every weapon slot with a specialist toy when a region is close to its next story milestone.
**Spoilers:** the first sections explain progression and name outposts. The mission sections reveal regional boss encounters and rescue objectives, but leave the final Joseph ending alone.
**What actually opens the map**
The three major territories are available after the opening island sequence. You do not have to defeat John before entering Faith’s country, or finish Faith before exploring Jacob’s mountains.
Their resistance targets are different:
- **Holland Valley, John:** 13,000 Resistance Points.
- **Henbane River, Faith:** 13,000 Resistance Points.
- **Whitetail Mountains, Jacob:** 10,000 Resistance Points.
Missions, outposts, rescued civilians and destroyed cult property all contribute. Each region tracks its own progress. Filling the meter brings its confrontation; completing the subsequent bunker rescue finishes that regional story.
For a manageable first stretch, pick a region and follow its named characters for a while. Constantly crossing between all three makes it harder to remember which rescue, stash and resistance event belongs to which area. Travel elsewhere when you want a particular companion or change of scenery, then return to the thread you were following.
The capture sequences are scripted story progression. Fighting the pursuing cultists can delay matters, but the campaign expects those scenes to happen. If you want a character’s available missions, do them before spending a long session farming random resistance events. The meter keeps moving even when you are only trying to earn money or clear a road.
**All twenty outposts**
Use this as a name checklist rather than counting every settlement with enemies as an outpost.
**Dutch’s island:**
- Ranger Station.
**Holland Valley:**
- Gardenview Packing Facility.
- Copperhead Rail Yard.
- Green-Busch Fertilizer Co.
- Sunrise Farm.
- US Auto.
- Seed Ranch.
- Kellett Cattle Co.
**Henbane River:**
- Eden’s Convent.
- Whistling Beaver Brewery.
- Sacred Skies Youth Camp.
- Lorna’s Truck Stop.
- King’s Hot Springs Hotel.
- Nolan’s Fly Shop.
- Jessop Conservatory.
- Drubman Marina.
**Whitetail Mountains:**
- F.A.N.G. Center.
- Whitetail Park Ranger Station.
- PIN-K0 Radar Station.
- Elk Jaw Lodge.
Liberated outposts provide useful fast-travel footholds. Before attacking, walk around the perimeter and locate alarms, elevated positions and an exit. An alarm box you can reach safely is worth more than a risky first shot at an enemy standing in front of three witnesses.
If the opening goes wrong, move. Remaining beside the same doorway while reinforcements converge turns a recoverable mistake into a shooting gallery. Take another side of the compound and make the enemies cross open ground to reach you.
**The Confession: getting out of John’s bunker**
The early escape rewards patience. After freeing yourself from the chair, use the first isolated enemies to obtain weapons. Watch the patrolling guard rather than rushing into the kneeling guard’s room and attracting both at once.
You cannot rescue Hudson during this visit. When the objective changes to escape and the **1:30 timer** begins, stop searching side rooms. Fight only the enemies blocking your route and keep following the exit.
Outside, head south to the ziplines. They lead toward a checkpoint with an ATV; use it to continue toward the bridge and leave the area.
The important change is pace. Take the quiet opening slowly enough to leave it equipped, then treat the timed stretch as a route through the bunker. Repeatedly stopping to loot every fallen enemy consumes the resource that matters most there: time.
**Wrath: the dogfight with John**
John flees Seed Ranch by plane. Follow in an aircraft, bring his plane down, then pursue him on the ground and take the bunker key. If Nick Rye has been recruited, he can help during the aerial fight.
Keep enough distance to make gradual turns. Chasing directly behind John at point-blank range makes every adjustment frantic and gives you little warning when the terrain rises. Let the plane settle, line up a clear firing pass and avoid trying to correct pitch, roll and aim all at once.
When John bails out, track his descent before abandoning your own aircraft. The objective has moved from shooting a plane to reaching a person. An unnecessary crash while trying to land beside him only complicates the second half.
**The Quality of Mercy: finish the rescue before leaving**
John’s death does not free Hudson automatically. Use his key at **John’s Gate**, work through the bunker and find her. The next stage involves releasing prisoners, reaching a second control room and destroying its consoles.
The escape route then climbs the silo. Look for the platforms Hudson lowers and continue upward; the route is not another corridor at the bottom. Destroy the marked Bliss containers from a safe distance, keep climbing toward the hatch, and survive the last defense until the helicopter can extract you.
A conventional rifle or shotgun is useful in these enclosed fights. Keep explosives for a clear target with room around it. Throwing one into a narrow passage while a cultist rushes straight toward you can turn your own solution into the immediate problem.
**Only You: the course, the beacons and Jacob**
Jacob’s finale combines three different tasks. First comes the familiar timed shooting course. Then you must destroy **six beacons** while enemies and wolves attack. Finally, Jacob waits on the mountain.
During the course, work from the route you have already learned, but keep looking at the actual room. A remembered doorway helps; firing blindly at where a target used to stand wastes time.
For the beacons, choose the next objective before you move. Clear the attackers in your immediate path and shoot the equipment rather than getting trapped fighting every apparition in the woods. The hallucinated attackers are fragile, so controlled shots are enough.
Once Jacob is the target, use the rock formations to break his line of sight. You can fight from range or work up toward his position. Clear the enemies covering your next piece of shelter before leaving the one you already have. Sprinting in a straight line toward a sniper gives him the simplest possible shot.
**Casualties of War: bringing Pratt out**
Head to Jacob’s bunker north of the F.A.N.G. Center. Clear the exterior lookout before entering. Inside, find the control room and open the pressure doors; that unlocks the route deeper into the armory.
Follow the opened route down to Pratt and release him. The return trip is noisy and the bunker begins flooding. Follow the exit markers and take the stairs upward rather than trying to search every newly accessible side room.
Reload before opening a door into a fresh section. The short corridors make it tempting to charge straight through, but arriving at the next group with an almost-empty magazine is an avoidable disadvantage.
**Paradise Lost: finding the real Faith**
Faith’s fight uses decoys and summoned attackers to divide your attention. The lesser illusions disappear after a hit. Clear the ones closing on you, test the copies, then concentrate fire when you identify the real target.
Avoid spraying an entire magazine across every duplicate. A few deliberate shots tell you which targets are false without leaving you reloading while the next attackers arrive. Deal with a small group, test another copy and repeat.
Between phases, check the central rocks for ammunition, weapons and medkits. Collect supplies before you are desperate for them. Later phases add more distractions, but the same priorities hold: protect your immediate space, identify Faith, then use the opening to damage her.
**Walk the Path: valves first, pumps second**
Faith’s bunker has **five central valves** to close and then **three pumps** to destroy. Those are separate stages. If the objective still names valves, stop shooting machinery and find the remaining interaction marker.
Clear a safe patch around each valve before turning it. Move to cover when more enemies arrive, deal with the immediate threat, then continue around the room. The alarms and frantic dialogue make the place feel more urgent than the actual objective requires; a controlled advance is much safer than trying to interact while being shot from every direction.
Once the pumps are destroyed, follow the escape route upward. The bursts of flame cycle on and off. Watch one briefly, then cross during the gap instead of running through a burning pipe and spending a medkit on the other side.
By the end of these three regional chains, the county has changed considerably. Restock, finish the side content you still want to see, and approach the final confrontation knowing that the next stretch is the ending—not another ordinary outpost.
