**Far Cry Primal beasts: all seventeen companions and the four great hunts** A jaguar slipping through an outpost and a bear dragging everyone into a fight solve different problems. Primal gives Takkar enough companions that choosing one deserves the same attention as choosing a weapon. This is a normal-mode guide. Survivor changes taming, owl abilities and what happens when an animal dies, so do not carry its companion rules into this checklist. **Start with Tensay** **Vision of Beasts** gives Takkar his owl connection. **Beast Master** follows with the white wolf and the introduction to taming land animals. Build Tensay's hut and keep advancing his skill branch. For an ordinary tame, unlock the appropriate beast-group skill first, then: 1. Crouch and throw bait away from your feet. 2. Wait for the animal to begin eating. The paw symbol signals the opening. 3. Move close without standing up. 4. Hold the displayed tame command until it finishes; releasing early can spoil the attempt. Dismiss your current companion beforehand if it is attacking or frightening the target. A beast already lunging at you may ignore bait, so create some distance instead of repeatedly throwing food underneath it. [Bait and approach steps](https://t.co/X1GICe2xRl). Map animal icons point to habitat. They do not guarantee a rare animal on that exact patch of ground. Scout nearby and use Hunter Vision to look for the scent trail associated with rare variants. If the territory is empty, move on and revisit instead of feeding bait to an empty hillside. **The complete land-companion roster** The ordinary roster contains fourteen animals, with three special hunt rewards bringing the total to seventeen. - **Canines:** Dhole, Rare Black Dhole, Wolf, White Wolf, Rare Stripe Wolf. - **Wildcats:** Jaguar, Rare Black Jaguar, Leopard, Cave Lion, Rare Black Lion. - **Apex predators:** Brown Bear, Sabretooth Tiger. - **Cunning beasts:** Cave Bear, Badger. - **Great-hunt companions:** Bloodfang Sabretooth, Great Scar Bear, Snowblood Wolf. Tame Wildcats follows Tensay's first hut. Tame Apex Predators requires five tamed beasts, and Tame Cunning Beasts requires eight, along with the preceding skills. Collect several early species instead of trying to skip directly from the first wolf to a cave bear. The owl is a separate companion. Mammoth riding also sits outside this list: a rideable mammoth does not become a permanently summonable eighteenth land beast. **Bloodtusk Mammoth is a hunt target, not a tameable reward.** **Choose a companion for the next job** Dholes help gather resources from kills. Wolves warn about nearby threats and help reveal terrain. Jaguars suit quiet attacks; leopards highlight nearby animals, while cave lions highlight enemies. Rare variants add stronger options, with several also resisting fire. Brown bears draw attention in a fight and can be ridden after Beast Rider. Sabretooths offer speed and riding; cave bears favor raw fighting strength over stealth. The badger has unusual defensive benefits, including poison immunity and a one-time self-revival in normal play. Use those roles deliberately. For a quiet camp, bring a jaguar and choose an isolated guard whose body will not immediately attract a patrol. For a noisy defense, use a bear to create a second threat while you attack from another direction. For hunting fleeing prey or traveling open country, speed matters more than standing through a long brawl. Keep meat ready for a downed companion. Reach it and use the healing prompt before its timer expires. If it dies, normal mode lets you select it in the beast menu and spend red leaves to revive it. [Healing and revival](https://t.co/rfiSbNu0GL). Make room before helping. Feeding an animal while several enemies are hitting Takkar can turn one casualty into two. Pull the attackers away, use cover and return when you have an opening. **Bloodfang Sabretooth: prepare the forest before nightfall** Complete Jayma's **The Tall Elk** to reach the great-hunt stage. Bloodfang's marker is in the southwest. Enter the approach cave, then follow the clues outside toward the hunters' camp. The nearby hostile outpost does not have to be cleared to follow this hunt. Set the available traps before sleeping until nightfall. Take a quick look at the spaces between them: those are your escape lanes when the tiger starts charging. Keep a fast companion ready to distract Bloodfang while you attack from another angle. After enough damage, the tiger flees toward its den. Chase promptly; losing it means waiting until another night. Follow the trail into the cave, where more traps can help. Continue the fight, then approach the fallen animal and hold the taming prompt before it recovers. [Bloodfang's chase and capture](https://t.co/4jwZxpwDfb). A trap creates a short pause, not a reason to empty every resource immediately. Use that pause for the job that matters most: a clean throw, healing Takkar or getting your companion back into the fight. Save something for the den. **Great Scar Bear: watch the ceiling** Enter the northeastern cave, swim through its tunnel and grapple to the ledge. Inspect the bear painting to begin tracking. Follow the clues out toward the hunting ground. You will find people already fighting the bear. Use that distraction to prepare, but expect the bear to turn on you. Wear it down until it withdraws into a cave; that retreat does not end the hunt. Inside, use the trap sites to interrupt its charge. Shoot the hanging stalactites when the bear is underneath them. Keep yourself and your companion out of the falling rocks' path. A narrow cave is a poor place to lose track of either animal. When it retreats again, follow Hunter Vision into the den. Climb the vines to reach the final encounter, defeat the bear and tame it while it is down. The [illustrated Great Scar route](https://t.co/TiNv2T83DS) helps locate the entry tunnel and final climb. **Snowblood Wolves: three leaders, one companion** Inspect the dead hunter at the southern mission marker, survive the wolves' attack and follow the clues south. Check the bear carcass, dead fisherman and fish remains along the river. The trail splits into two hunting areas. One includes a caged Wenja: set traps before freeing and speaking to the captive. The other leader appears after you inspect a hunter's corpse in its search area. Defeat both leaders and their surrounding packs; neither is the final companion. Follow the remaining clues toward the northern target, examining the elk carcass and the body inside the cave. Beyond it waits the final Snowblood. Bring that leader down and tame it to finish. [Three-pack route](https://t.co/AnkMqMKqXr). Watch the whole pack, especially while aiming a spear. A leader is easier to follow than the ordinary wolves circling behind you. Reduce that pressure before pursuing a target that has broken away, and check your companion's health between encounters. **Bloodtusk Mammoth: three hunting grounds, no taming reward** Meet the Wenja hunter in the far north, follow the clues and build traps at the hunting ground. Draw the mammoth through them, then attack while it is held. A companion can provide a distraction, but do not leave it taking repeated charges without checking its health. Bloodtusk retreats across three hunting grounds as the fight progresses. Prepare for the terrain to change rather than expecting one continuous arena: - In the geyser area, the eruptions can hurt and briefly stun the mammoth. - In the ice area, shoot the hanging ice onto it. Watch overhead as well as straight ahead. - In cramped ground, keep moving between attacks and use the traps instead of trying to win a stationary exchange. When its health is exhausted, move close and perform the finishing interaction. **You kill Bloodtusk; you do not tame it.** The [Bloodtusk hunt reference](https://t.co/w4epanZuBZ) distinguishes that outcome from the other great beasts. Across all four hunts, pause to read a new arena before committing. Identify a trap, an escape lane and somewhere to recover. Those few seconds give the next charge a destination other than Takkar's face.
