The words Far Cry 3 appear on several releases that do not contain the same things. Before following an old achievement guide or buying a bundle for a particular mode, check the actual product name and platform. That saves a lot of frustration later. **The original Far Cry 3** The 2012 release contains Jason Brody's Rook Islands campaign. It also launched with competitive multiplayer and a separate co-op campaign. The co-op story uses different characters; it was never a way for a friend to join Jason's open-world campaign. The original console release also offered local split-screen co-op. That local mode is separate from the online services discussed below; Classic Edition does not include either form of co-op. Official online support has since ended. Ubisoft lists the original Far Cry 3 among its retired services, and the [current Steam page](https://t.co/619UZLW8ls) explicitly warns that multiplayer and online features are unavailable. Old store tags and screenshots can still mention co-op. Read the shutdown notice before treating those tags as a current feature promise. For guides, that means the main campaign remains the useful common ground. A trophy list from the original console version can contain co-op requirements that do not belong to Classic Edition. Avoid mixing the lists simply because both have Jason on the cover. **Far Cry 3 Classic Edition** Classic Edition is the single-player version released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018. Ubisoft's announcement explicitly described it as single-player content. It was offered through the Far Cry 5 Season Pass on those consoles and as a separate purchase. The PC entitlement associated with that Far Cry 5 offer was the original Far Cry 3, rather than a promise that every platform received an identically named remaster. Check what is actually listed in your library. Current-console performance has changed since the early reviews. [Ubisoft announced a free 60 FPS update](https://t.co/oEykRm28Tm) for Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on January 21, 2026. An old review describing the launch performance of the Xbox One or PS4 release does not establish how a patched copy runs on newer hardware. Do not turn that into a blanket claim about every console, every PC configuration or an unpatched installation. The hardware and update state still matter. **The bonus missions need their own labels** The original game's extra content came in several packages: - Monkey Business added four Hurk missions. - The Lost Expeditions added two single-player missions involving abandoned wartime facilities. - Other packs mixed equipment, hunting content and multiplayer bonuses. That last point matters. A historical pack description can mention a multiplayer reward beside a single-player mission. Finding the mission in a later edition does not restore the retired multiplayer feature. Classic Edition includes the Lost Expedition missions. For an old PC copy, be more cautious about downloadable-content access and previously activated entitlements. Ubisoft changed the arrangements around the 2022 shutdown, and older activation instructions are not a reliable promise that a newly obtained code will work today. Check the installed game's map and mission list before following a bonus-mission walkthrough. These missions can be covered as small additions to Jason's adventure. They should not be confused with a whole separate campaign or treated as necessary preparation for the ending. **Blood Dragon is a separate game** Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon follows Rex Colt in its own science-fiction setting. It does not need Far Cry 3 to run. Your Jason equipment, story progress and collectible checklist are not a shared save with Rex. Blood Dragon Classic Edition arrived on newer consoles in 2021 and was included with the Far Cry 6 Season Pass. Ubisoft's original Far Cry 6 announcement distinguished the PC entitlement, the original 2013 Blood Dragon, from the console Classic Edition. The Blood Dragon-themed equipment inside Far Cry 6 is another separate thing again. If you want Rex's actual campaign, look for the game entitlement. A themed outfit, weapon or companion inside Far Cry 6 is not that campaign. **The Switch 2 releases are still ahead** [Ubisoft announced](https://t.co/tivxXbW4py) Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Blood Dragon Classic Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027. As of this guide's November 1, 2026 check, those are announced future releases. Do not use their announcement as evidence of a version you can already play, or assume their final performance and feature details before release. **A quick check before using any guide** Confirm the title, platform, patch state and achievement list. Then decide whether you are following Jason's main campaign, a bonus mission, the historical co-op story or Rex's separate adventure. Once those labels are clear, the useful parts become much easier to find. You can spend your time working out how to reach a relic instead of wondering why a mission from somebody else's edition never appeared.
