**Far Cry 2 Jackal tapes: sixteen pickup sites, plus the one Reuben gives you**
Far Cry 2's tape count is easy to misread. There are **sixteen recordings to collect in the world**, eight in each district, plus the initial recording received from Reuben. That is why guides can refer to seventeen tapes without sending you to seventeen hidden locations.
This checklist names the sixteen pickup sites without revealing the interview contents. The order is geographical, not the order of the recordings' titles. The GPS can locate tapes, although they do not produce the diamond-case beep. [Collection FAQ](https://t.co/w4o1BeKynz).
**Leboa-Sako: the northern eight**
- **Northwest:** small observation post east of the guard station east of North Railyard.
- **North:** bench outside the buildings north of the railway-side guard post.
- **Northeast:** railway entrance near the northern boundary, west of the Fort; search the hut.
- **West:** lake-end road northeast of the Police Station; beside the crashed car and body.
- **East:** abandoned vehicle west of the guard post reached by turning south after leaving Pala eastward.
- **Southwest:** crashed plane beyond the Underground cell northwest of the southwest bus stop.
- **South:** plane wreck and camp east of the Airfield, by the curved rock formation.
- **Southeast:** ruined bus and camp northeast of the southeast bus stop.
Use the bus network to split this into shorter outings. The two northwestern stops can be one trip; the northeast tape fits a visit to the Fort's side of the district. Keep the checklist tied to sectors. A description saying “northeast” can otherwise mean either a district corner or a direction within the square you are already in.
The [GameSpot tape guide](https://t.co/iCKHc6d7yz) supplies the approaches for these sites. Use its Jackal Tapes section rather than the separate golden-weapon list.
**Hand in the first set before moving the story south**
Return the complete northern set to Reuben at Mike's Bar before the Act I closing sequence takes you onward. Keep a separate save before that late-act progression. Collecting the objects and completing the hand-in are different steps; do not assume the story will handle delivery for you.
The console [trophy guide](https://t.co/pBWvCT7s2z) flags the hand-ins as missable. This is a useful warning even if you are collecting for the story rather than an achievement.
**Bowa Seko: the southern eight**
- **Northwest:** bus and camp southeast of the safehouse south of the weapons shop.
- **North:** upper northwestern Dogon Village, beyond the glider; inspect the bench down the stone steps.
- **Northeast:** abandoned truck beside the lake southwest of the Crash Site.
- **West:** well and canopy southwest of the cellular antenna.
- **Center:** basement of Sehlakalase island's farming hut.
- **East:** riverbank plane wreck south of the broken bridge.
- **Southwest:** blue bus west along the road from the southwest bus stop.
- **South:** car beside the road between the northwestern safehouse and M-S Pipeline.
[SENIORBILL's tape section](https://t.co/2WF8zupkNJ) gives additional landmark detail; search **JT21** in that guide.
Keep the island pickup on this checklist. Following only the mainland road network will never take you through its basement.
After collecting the southern set, return to Reuben at the Marina promptly. Plan to finish this before the late faction-leadership missions, rather than treating the final prison warning as your delivery deadline. Reuben later leaves the bar during the story; get the recordings into his hands while he is still there. [Late-story sequence](https://t.co/Q44FnxBmxA).
**Repeated audio does not necessarily mean a failed pickup**
Some versions have a known southern-tape problem: later pickups repeat the same interview, often identified as “Stealing Boots,” and the menu may not reflect the recordings normally. This is a reason to keep a physical-location checklist, not a reason to assume every repeated line means you failed to collect the object. The [community patch author's documentation](https://t.co/3WZQ26YXdD) describes the PC issue; it is not evidence that every platform behaves identically.
On the affected PC version, this can be more than repeated audio: the later recorders can disappear without being added to the tape list. Keep a separate save before collecting the southern set. A physical checklist helps identify where you went, but it cannot repair that recording bug. If it occurs, preserve the earlier save rather than assuming that another pickup or the hand-in will fix it.
**The separate Predecessor bonus chain**
These promotional missions follow the earlier mercenary sent after the Jackal. They do not add hidden Jackal interviews to the checklist above. The following route applies **if the bonus chain is already unlocked**; its original promotional-code instructions are historical, not a promise about every current edition.
- **The Predecessor:** after the tutorial, enter Pala and answer the call. Follow the envelope marker to the bus-shack message, then the white objective marker to an informant's tape. Return to Pala to trigger the next message. Repeat until you have the Moroccan, Georgian and Bolivian recordings; their order varies.
- **Special Delivery:** after escorting the barge, enter Port Selao. The call starts a similar loop through the western post office. Collect the American, Le Francais and Brit tapes, returning to Port Selao between messages.
- **Pre-Deceased:** with all six, return to Port Selao for the final call. Follow it to the cabin on Sehlakalase in Lake Segolo.
[Prima's original bonus-mission instructions](https://t.co/A6VimeEEdh). Follow the active envelope marker: the old article inconsistently names the bus shack's compass sector.
