**Far Cry 2's map: what opens when, and which detours are worth taking** A straight line on Far Cry 2's map can be an awful route. It may cross a checkpoint, a river with no convenient crossing and a mountain that does not care how urgently you need to reach the objective. The better habit is to plan the trip in sections. Choose the district and bus stop first, the local approach second and the last stretch on foot only when you can see what is waiting there. **The two districts and the story gates** **Leboa-Sako** is the opening northern district; **Bowa Seko** becomes available after the northern story. The change takes you into a different set of hubs, not simply another road out of Pala. [Southern district overview](https://t.co/6UdiG0uy1K). Keep these places straight: - **Pala:** the northern town, with the church and faction headquarters. Mike's Bar lies south of town. - **Mosate Selao and Port Selao:** the southern urban center and nearby port; these names appear repeatedly in faction assignments. - **Marina:** the southern buddy meeting place, in Bowa Seko's southeast. It also has a weapons shop and armory. The bar's sign still says Mike's Bar, which can make directions sound more confusing than they are. [Marina reference](https://t.co/Xow5QQQC9A). The late route into the **Heart of Darkness** belongs to the ending. Keep a separate free-roam save before the campaign sends you back to the prison to meet the Jackal; do not expect to clear that wilderness during an ordinary early southern trip. Treat an inaccessible story route differently from an awkward climb. If the campaign has not opened it, spending an hour searching every rock face is unlikely to help. **Put the bus before the jeep** Bus stops connect the central hub and outer parts of each district. They are useful for skipping the long middle of a journey, leaving a shorter local drive or walk at the far end. [IGN's transport notes](https://t.co/VukDnw9qTT). For a northern medicine delivery, compare the destination with the northwest and northeast stops before driving all the way from Pala. For a return trip, do the same calculation in reverse. A nearby bus stop can be more useful than following the exact road you arrived on. Boats deserve the same consideration where the waterways suit the destination. Water travel does not mean no enemies; it means a different approach. Check where you can actually go ashore instead of arriving beneath a cliff and discovering that the landing point is on the other side of the area. **Safehouses and guard posts are different jobs** A cleared safehouse gives you a bed, a save point and somewhere to advance the clock. Mark one near the job before heading into trouble. Guard posts work differently. Enemies return after you leave the area. Use the monocular on the post's main supplies, or approach them, to identify whether it offers ammunition, health, explosives or fuel. Scouting records a useful resupply point; it does not permanently remove the patrol problem. [Guard-post mechanics](https://t.co/w4o1BeKynz). This distinction changes route planning. Clear a safehouse because you intend to use it. Fight through a checkpoint because the position, supplies or current mission justify the effort. Do not repeatedly clear the same intersection expecting the map to recognize a conquest the game is not built to award. **What each side activity gives you** - **Arms-dealer convoys:** new shop weapons. - **Underground deliveries:** malaria pills for travel documents. - **Cellular towers:** paid assassinations. - **Bar favors:** individual buddy jobs. - **Faction-mission subversions:** alternative objectives and safehouse upgrades. - **Cases and recordings:** spending money and Jackal interviews respectively. Bar favors and subversions are separate activities. [Mission-system explanation](https://t.co/w4o1BeKynz). Read an alternative's objectives before continuing with your original plan. A familiar destination can tempt you into following yesterday's routine without checking what today's job actually requires. **Make a detour earn its place** A useful trip might combine an arms dealer, a nearby unlocked safehouse and a collectible in the same map region. A bad one strings together four distant objectives simply because all four icons are visible. Before setting off, decide what would make you turn back: low medicine, a badly worn main gun or insufficient healing supplies. Once the objective is done, check the route home before chasing another marker. Far Cry 2 is much easier to manage when the journey has an end instead of expanding every time the GPS flashes.
