**Spartan Assault — gold stars, Assault Ops and achievement cleanup** Platform differences are called out below. The easiest way to make Spartan Assault feel like a grind is to keep replaying missions without deciding what that replay is supposed to accomplish. Gold, an individual achievement and a weapon challenge can pull you in three different directions. Before loading a level, pick the thing you are working on. Then use the results screen and the challenge counters to check whether that attempt actually helped. **First, separate score from XP** Mission score determines your star result. XP is a different reward used for progression and loadout purchases. Skulls affect the XP reward rather than multiplying the mission score. That means you should not copy an MCC scoring setup and expect it to work here. If a skull makes survival harder without helping the gold-star score, leave it off for the gold attempt unless you have another reason to use it. Time bonuses can matter to the final result. On a straightforward objective mission, wandering around after the useful fighting is over can work against you. On the other hand, sprinting past every enemy can leave you short of the score you need. Learn a reliable completion route, then compare the result instead of assuming faster always means gold. Gold targets can differ by edition. Check the target on your own mission screen. **Make the first clear useful** Try different handheld weapons and armor abilities as they become available. Weapon of Choice and Powered by MJOLNIR are easier to plan when you know what you have used, rather than trying to remember thirty missions later. Read your platform's precise wording before buying or grinding anything. Some older lists explicitly exclude particular weapons or abilities, while others summarize the requirement differently. Steam's official FAQ also confirms that its purchasable equipment can be bought with earned XP; this guide does not require a real-money purchase. When a mission has its own feat, decide whether it fits your first clear. Protecting every Wolverine in A-3 is sensible to attempt while learning the escort. A restricted-weapon run is usually easier once you know the objective route. **Gold-star cleanup** Recruit recognizes earning a star, and Prodigy recognizes your first gold. The larger gold-star targets are where the edition split becomes important. On Steam, 117 covers Operations A–E and Tour of Duty covers Operation F. Do not assume a console guide using a broader all-operation description changes the Steam requirement. Conversely, console players should follow the console list rather than stopping at an old PC milestone. Keep a row for every mission and mark the actual gold result. A high personal score is not enough if the game has not recorded the gold star. If you are just short, review the route, the fights you skipped and the time spent doubling back before deciding you need an expensive loadout. **Assault Ops are their own checklist** Each solo mission has three mission-specific challenges. Across thirty missions, that gives you ninety. For Steam, the original campaign challenges and Hydra's challenges have separate achievement targets: Extra Credit and A for Effort. Xbox One and Xbox 360 instead require all ninety for Extra Credit. Do not mix the separate PC Hydra achievement into a console checklist that does not contain it. Check the weapon, enemy and mission together. A requirement involving Elite Minors is not automatically advanced by shooting every type of Covenant with the right gun. Likewise, using the correct weapon in the wrong mission does not satisfy a mission-specific task. Work on compatible objectives together. If your remaining counter needs a particular gun, use it for those enemies and finish the level normally. Do not sabotage an escort or deliberately make a gold attempt worse merely to squeeze every possible task into one run. **Medals and skull challenges** Distinguished Service is about the campaign medal collection, not the gold star beside each mission. Check the Records section for missing medals. Earning another gold on the same level does not tell you which combat medal you are missing. Keep Skull Combo and the two Vidmaster challenges on separate rows. The named Vidmaster setups are specific: E-1 uses Hollow with Black Eye; F-4 uses Blind with Thunderstorm. Practice the relevant mission without that handicap first, then equip the required pair. The point is to know the route before taking away information or changing your survival rules. **Do not erase progress to fix an achievement casually** Current achievement trackers flag cross-version progress problems for some Assault Ops achievements. That is a reason to inspect the affected platform's notes before starting a completion project, not a recommendation to delete saves or reset everything because one unlock is delayed. Keep your existing progress. Establish which version is affected, which requirement the game has recorded and what the current issue actually is. The old promise that everything automatically carries over between versions is not reliable enough to build a modern completion guide around. Console Flood co-op has its own achievement work and partner requirements. None of that belongs on a Steam solo checklist. Finish the campaign work against the list you actually have, then handle the separate multiplayer mode if your edition includes it.
