**Halo Wars: Definitive Edition — plan the skirmish cleanup before grinding wins**
Before replaying the same quick match a hundred times, clear the wins that need a particular map, leader or mode. Those matches can move several checklists forward together.
This is a planning guide for **Definitive Edition**, not the original Xbox 360 achievement list. In particular, **Running the Show** means thirty skirmish or multiplayer wins here. It is not the old General-rank grind.
**Make the ordinary wins useful**
Rotate through leaders for **Playin' the Field**, maps for **Gallivant around the Galaxy**, and game modes for **Empire Builder**. Write down wins rather than matches merely started. Check the timeline as well, because its unlocks include skirmish-related requirements.
Set up a 3v3 with two AI allies for **My Virtual Friends Love Me**. A human teammate is not the same requirement as an AI ally. For the cumulative win achievements, skirmish wins count; you don't have to turn every one of them into a public match.
The Definitive Edition win milestones run through ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, seventy-five and one hundred wins. Leave the repeat grind until after the more specific matches so you aren't doing unnecessary extra games.
**Treat challenge wins as separate setups**
**Big Al's Scooter** requires a Heroic AI skirmish win in under ten minutes. Plan an early attack and scout promptly rather than building a late-game army and hoping it still fits the timer.
**Penny Pincher** requires a winning high score with ten or fewer squads against Heroic AI. For a conservative attempt, count the starting squad and every squad you produce, and stay at ten total rather than replacing losses beyond that budget. Upgrade and preserve that small force instead of trying to finish a larger-army game with only ten survivors.
**Titan** is a 20,000-point skirmish score target. **2 Bugs are Better Than 1** requires a skirmish win with dual Scarabs. **Walk-off Winner** needs one of the six major leader powers to destroy the enemy's final unit. For that last one, keep your ordinary army from delivering the final blow while you're lining up the power.
These aren't all efficient to combine. A slow Scarab setup and an under-ten-minute attack have different priorities.
**Modes originally introduced as DLC**
Definitive Edition includes the original game's DLC content, but the achievements still care which mode you're playing.
- **Keepaway:** One and Done requires the winning point against Legendary AI. Being on the winning side without securing the required point is not the same thing.
- **Tug of War:** Pull Hard, Pull Deep requires a win without ever trailing. Recovering from a deficit and winning is a good match, but a different result.
- **Reinforcement:** Freak on a Streak requires at least fifteen population from one wave, not several waves added together. Living Loving Bug requires obtaining a Scarab in that mode.
Check those conditions before starting the match. A standard skirmish cannot quietly stand in for a mode-specific achievement.
**Map-specific requirements**
On **Barrens**, Tour Coming Through concerns fifty hot-dropped squads to your Covenant leader in a single game. Keep the reinforcement system and population space working; ordinary production sitting at the base doesn't satisfy a leader hot-drop requirement.
On **Memorial Basin**, Never Leave a Man Behind requires finishing with 5,000 net resources tributed to teammates, excluding Deathmatch. Track net contributions, not simply one transfer that is offset by resources coming back. Drain Cleaner requires twenty enemy squad kills with a continuous Covenant leader power on that map.
On **Blood River**, KillJoy requires disrupting five active leader powers in one game. Use the disruption when an enemy power is actually running, not just when an enemy leader is nearby.
**Public games and edition limits**
**N00b n0 M0r3** requires a public-game win. **So Lonely At the Top** additionally requires the highest score in that public game. Don't mark either complete from an offline AI victory.
Before arranging multiplayer, agree on the edition and storefront. Steam's Halo Wars: Definitive Edition network play is separate from the Windows Store version. Xbox Play Anywhere ownership should not be read as a blanket promise of cross-platform matchmaking.
The original Xbox 360 game has its own legacy-service situation. Don't assume every feature is dead—or every feature works—because of a general Halo shutdown headline. Check the official per-game service chart and actual connectivity before making plans. This guide does not claim a live lobby test or guarantee current matchmaking availability.
The useful order is specific maps and modes first, public requirements when available, then any remaining cumulative wins. That turns the cleanup into a list of actual tasks rather than a pile of matches with no idea what is still missing.
