**Halo 5: getting the right version and planning the campaign** Halo 5 needs its own checklist. It isn't another campaign inside The Master Chief Collection, and the squad system changes how you handle fights from the first mission onward. The guides here cover **Halo 5: Guardians**, the Xbox game. If you've been working through the MCC guides, switch to Halo 5's own campaign records and achievements before carrying on. **Xbox, cloud play and the PC distinction** The official Xbox listing supports Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Campaign supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players. That doesn't mean four people sharing one console: the listed co-op feature is online. Halo 5: Forge on Windows is a different release. Microsoft brought the Forge tools and the ability to build and play custom content to Windows; downloading that app isn't the same as installing the Guardians campaign. There is also a newer community project worth separating from both: **[Halo 5 Reforged](https://t.co/9TErn00Q0F)**. As checked November 1, 2026, its developers describe all fifteen campaign missions and four-player co-op as working in development builds. Their site also explicitly says there is no announced release date. It's unofficial and still being developed. Those claims don't establish that the Xbox achievements in this guide work through it. For an achievement run, use the official game and its own records. Treat PC project progress as a separate subject rather than assuming every route, save feature and unlock behaves identically. **What the campaign contains** There are fifteen missions. Three are quieter locations built around conversations and exploration rather than full combat levels: - Meridian Station - Alliance - Before the Storm Don't skip them when checking campaign completion. They also matter for intel. Across the campaign there are **117 intel items and thirteen skulls**. Intel includes more than small data pads, so use the scanner and look for the actual interaction prompt rather than expecting every collectible to resemble the last one. The mission menu's counters are useful here. Write down the number you have before replaying a level, then check it afterward. That gives you a much better cleanup list than trying to remember which corner you searched last week. **Get comfortable giving orders** Solo doesn't mean being alone. You have three AI Spartans, and the game lets you direct them instead of simply hoping they stand somewhere useful. With the standard controller layout, the squad command is up on the directional pad. Aim at an enemy to focus the team on that target; use the command on terrain to give a movement order. Check your bindings if you use another layout. My recommendation is to practice those two uses in the opening fight. Pick a troublesome target, tell the squad to attack it, then move yourself to a different angle. Before going down a narrow passage, regroup instead of leaving somebody fighting behind you. Revival is useful, but plan your position before you need it. Going down behind a rock is a very different situation from going down underneath a turret. If an attempted rescue is turning into a pile of downed Spartans, the better decision is usually to clear the threat or change the angle first. **A sensible order for achievements** There are two distinct campaign goals to plan around: - **Lone Wolf:** complete every mission solo on Legendary. - **All for One:** complete the campaign in co-op on Heroic difficulty. A solo run with AI teammates is still solo; it doesn't satisfy the co-op requirement. If you want both, keep separate completion checklists rather than counting one playthrough twice. For a first pass, I'd put story and basic familiarity ahead of every optional challenge. Collect what you can, then use the mission guides to return for anything missing. If you're already comfortable on Heroic and have a co-op partner, that can be your first organized completion pass. Leave specific restrictions for deliberate attempts. A mission that asks you to avoid a vehicle or protect somebody is much easier to track when everyone knows the plan before launching. The collectible achievements are straightforward goals: one intel item for Conspiracy Theory, all intel for Hunt the Truth, one skull for Gravedigger and all skulls for Gravelord. Finding a skull and switching its modifier on are separate actions. One exception deserves remembering before you plan a relaxed collectible sweep: the Iron skull in Glassed has a Legendary-specific method. The Osiris collectible guide doesn't require you to begin the whole campaign on Legendary just to find its skull.
