**Halo 4: the achievements outside the campaign checklist**
**This checklist is for Halo 4 inside The Master Chief Collection. Original Xbox 360 differences are separated below.**
If you've finished the campaign guides and Spartan Ops chapters, there are still a few straightforward jobs worth checking before moving on. These don't require another full Legendary campaign.
**Going International: eight maps**
Complete a Halo 4 multiplayer match on **eight different maps**.
Custom games can be used. Choose Halo 4 specifically, keep a list of the maps you've finished and change the map between games. Playing eight matches on the same map doesn't satisfy the requirement.
Older guides describe loading a map and immediately ending or quitting the match. Reports about that shortcut vary, so I'd finish short matches properly and let the results screen appear. If progress isn't registering, testing one completed match is more useful than repeating the same questionable shortcut eight times.
A simple checklist works:
- Map name.
- Game type.
- Match finished.
- Achievement progress checked.
That also gives you a record if you need to identify one missing map later.
**Taste Test: four game types**
Complete matches in **four different Halo 4 multiplayer game types**.
Changing the map doesn't change the game type. Use distinct modes rather than four renamed variations of the same rules. You can combine this with Going International by changing both the map and mode for your first four games, then finishing the remaining maps.
Keep the two requirements separate on your checklist: eight maps and four modes. Neither achievement says you must win every match.
**Knight in White Assassination**
Assassinate a Promethean Knight in **Spartan Ops**. A campaign assassination isn't the required activity.
An opportunity is in **Episode 1, Chapter 4, Sacred**. After leaving the star-map room, a Knight appears in the corridor leading back toward the main chamber. Stay out of sight and look for an approach from behind while its attention is elsewhere. Hold melee to trigger the assassination animation rather than merely tapping for a normal hit.
In co-op, one player can distract the Knight while another approaches from behind. Give the player attempting the assassination time to complete the animation instead of finishing the Knight with gunfire.
Easy is a reasonable choice for this cleanup. The achievement doesn't demand Legendary, and there is little reason to make the surrounding enemies more dangerous while practicing the timing. If the Knight has already turned to face you, reset your approach instead of repeatedly charging its front.
**A Long Time Ago**
Play Halo 4 on the **6th of any month**. Starting a Halo 4 campaign mission or multiplayer match is the straightforward approach.
Put the sixth on your calendar if this one is still missing.
**Spartan Ops episode completion checks**
Each episode has its own completion achievement. Its name matches the episode:
- Departure — Episode 1.
- Artifact — Episode 2.
- Catherine — Episode 3.
- Didact's Hand — Episode 4.
- Memento Mori — Episode 5.
- Scattered — Episode 6.
- Invasion — Episode 7.
- Expendable — Episode 8.
- Key — Episode 9.
- Exodus — Episode 10.
Finish all five chapters in the relevant episode. These are useful milestones while working through the larger fifty-chapter difficulty and solo-completion requirements.
**Don't mix in the Xbox 360 list**
The original Halo 4 achievement list includes rank, challenge and DLC matchmaking objectives that aren't simply reproduced by MCC's Halo 4 list. An old guide mentioning a particular DLC matchmaking playlist may be discussing the Xbox 360 release.
Halo Support's shutdown documentation states that the legacy Xbox 360 service changes took effect on January 13, 2022. Matchmaking-dependent and challenge-dependent achievements are affected. Running that original game through backward compatibility doesn't change which services it uses.
The same documentation lists campaign, Spartan Ops, custom games and several other features as remaining available, so saying the entire original game is unusable would also be wrong. Availability of a particular legacy session still needs checking if you're playing that version. MCC uses different services and wasn't part of that shutdown.
Keep three things distinct when troubleshooting: the game edition, the achievement's exact wording and whether the required service still exists. That prevents wasting an evening following an otherwise accurate guide for the wrong version.
