**Halo 4 Spartan Ops: Catherine, all five chapters** **MCC guide. Episode 3 spoilers.** Catherine keeps changing the kind of fight you're in. The first chapter gives you tanks, Galileo puts you back inside a base under attack, and Valhalla eventually hands you a Mantis because the situation has gotten that bad. Treat the vehicle deliveries as a change in tactics rather than continuing to fight everything on foot. **1. The VIP** Start by clearing the valley from the entrance high ground. Watch the elevated Covenant positions before crossing: a sniper you leave above you becomes much harder to deal with once you're fighting Elites below. Work toward Parg Vol's marked hill. **His escape aboard the Phantom is scripted.** You haven't ruined the chapter by arriving too slowly. Clear the reinforcements on the hill and follow the updated objective toward the captured UNSC equipment in the adjoining canyon. This is the point to stop spending your rifle ammunition on every approaching enemy. Clear a path to a Scorpion, get aboard, and defend the equipment against the incoming Covenant. Wraiths deserve your attention before scattered infantry. Keep enough room behind the tank to reverse when mortar fire lands near you; driving deeper into a crowded landing zone usually makes the situation worse. Finish the marked stragglers and take the extraction. The distress call from Galileo leads into the next chapter. **2. Galileo** The objective here is to deny the Covenant access to the base's computers. You do that by shutting down **three power cores**, then bringing the defenses back online. Use the first building as shelter while clearing the initial attack. From the starting slope, it is the nearby ground-floor building on the left. Disable its marked core when the room is safe. The next core is in the neighboring building; the third is on the raised building farther across the base. Follow the objective markers between them rather than staying in the courtyard trying to kill every enemy from an exposed position. Banshees enter the fight as the shutdown progresses. If you're playing on Legendary, make your moves between buildings while you still have shields. Don't leave cover with a nearly broken shield simply because the next marker looks close. After all three cores are disabled, activate **both defense turrets**. Those are a new set of objectives, not another pair of generators to destroy. Get onto the marked upper positions, operate the controls, then finish the remaining attack. Hunters join the cleanup, so keep something useful for heavy targets rather than spending all your power ammunition on Grunts. **3. Spartan Mountain** Follow the left side of the valley toward the downed Pelican and relieve Mountain Squad. Communications are jammed, so the immediate job is to clear the crash site and reach the controls that lower the shield around the jamming equipment. Once that shield drops, expect reinforcements. Destroy the exposed jammers and finish the nearby resistance. With communications restored, move toward the Forerunner tower at the opposite end of the canyon. Take this crossing in stages. Clear a firing position, move up to it, then deal with the next one. A long stretch of open ground is a bad place to discover that a sniper still has an angle on you. At the tower, operate the two marked shield controls. Deal with the enemies coming out and the reinforcement drop before entering. Follow Halsey's instructions to activate the object inside. Another fight follows outside, including Hunters. Clear that attack, then return to the crash site to end the chapter. **4. Shootout in Valhalla** You're staying in the same valley, but now the task is to hold it. Activate the **three defense turrets**: one near your starting tower, one around the middle of the valley, and one near the far tower. They help thin the infantry while you deal with targets that need a Spartan's attention. Before moving far from the start, you can trigger the episode's Red vs. Blue radio. Look up into the tree to the right of your initial position and shoot the small yellow box. This is an optional detour, not a required defense control. The early waves are fought with the equipment already available. When the Pelicans deliver Mantises, take one and shift your attention toward the aircraft. Banshees can work around your cover while you're staring at a ground target, so keep checking above the valley. My recommendation is to fight with a retreat available rather than standing in the center absorbing everything. Break line of sight when the Mantis shields need to recover. In co-op, spread out enough that everyone isn't taking the same incoming attack, but remain close enough to cover a teammate's blind side. Continue through the reinforcements and move to the extraction marker when ordered. The final air battle continues there; reaching the marker alone doesn't immediately finish the chapter. Hold out through the attack and the supporting strike against the Covenant cruiser. **5. Hunting Trip** This time you can finish the hunt for Parg Vol. Pick off the elevated snipers before committing to the temple approach. Clear the lower ground, then climb the structure by its ramps, removing the turret positions as you advance. Keep checking the levels above you instead of focusing only on the enemies directly ahead. Kill the marked Elite target and clear his remaining defenders. That starts the next problem: the Covenant send reinforcements after you. Use the structure's height to see the approaches, but don't assume the main ramp is the only route an Elite can use to reach you. When the heavy-weapon resupply arrives, collect something capable of dealing with the supporting Phantoms. Choose a moment when the approach is relatively clear; dropping down for ammunition while several enemies are already closing on your position can turn a manageable defense into a scramble. Keep fighting through the ground troops, Hunters, and gunship support. When the friendly airstrike is called in, get into cover and let it do its job. Reach the Pelican once extraction is available. **Before leaving the episode** Check completion on all five chapters: The VIP, Galileo, Spartan Mountain, Shootout in Valhalla, and Hunting Trip. Together they count toward the episode achievement **Catherine**. If you're working toward **Smooth Operator**, each chapter needs its own solo Legendary completion; a co-op clear isn't a substitute for that record.
