**Halo 4 Spartan Ops: Artifact, all five chapters** **MCC guide. Episode 2 spoilers.** Artifact spends a lot of time sending Crimson to help people whose situation has already gone badly. The important difference from a simple enemy-clear mission is that you sometimes need to watch what the enemy is shooting, not just whether it is shooting you. If you want **No One Left Behind**, set Hacksaw to Heroic or Legendary and make Marine survival the point of that chapter. The other missions can be played at the difficulty you prefer, unless you're building a specific completion record. **1. Clean Up — disable the anti-air position** Approach the Gate from cover and remove the mounted weapons controlling the climb. Clear the Covenant on the structure, then deal with the Watchers. Don't leave an airborne support unit alive while you spend the rest of your ammunition on its ground support. The next objectives are **two pylons powering the Forerunner turrets**. Follow their markers and disable both while dealing with the Crawlers and additional Watchers. These are the controls that advance the objective; shooting at scenery around an active turret isn't a substitute. When the anti-air guns are offline, investigate the newly marked anomaly. The chapter adds a Promethean encounter before extraction. Use the weapon resupply at the base of the structure for the Knights rather than trying to finish the entire fight with whatever ammunition is left from the opening. On Legendary, don't rush into the middle of a newly arriving group to grab a weapon. Take the closest usable cover, kill the enemy blocking the pickup, then collect it. Once the remaining Prometheans are down, the Pelican transition sends Crimson toward the science team's distress call. **2. For Science — find the missing scientists** Back at the Cauldron, clear the initial Covenant and destroy the marked communications arrays. Search the indicated UNSC equipment and interact with the IFF recording. That establishes where the scientists went and moves the rescue forward. Continue toward Rivera's signal. When a shield blocks the route, use the nearby marked control to lower it. Expect more enemies after the barrier comes down; don't run straight through the opening while ignoring the drop pods. Keep progressing through the Covenant position until you reach the scientists' refuge. They have used a shield to protect themselves. Your job is to clear the enemy outside it, including the new reinforcements, so they can safely lower it. Use the final enemy markers to locate stragglers. If the scientists are still behind the shield, check the remaining hostile objective rather than trying to shoot through their protection or forcing your way into it. The chapter ends after the area is secure and the rescue is acknowledged. **3. Hacksaw — rescue the Marines and survive extraction** Work around the Fortress and relieve the separated Marine groups. Get between the Covenant and the Marines where possible, but don't throw explosives into the people you're rescuing. There are six Marines arranged in three pairs. For **No One Left Behind**, at least **one** must survive through the chapter on **Heroic or Legendary**. This is a different requirement from keeping all six alive in Infinity's campaign challenge. Clear each group's immediate attackers before moving on. Use the available heavy weapons against vehicles and dangerous reinforcements, keeping a precision weapon for infantry. If an enemy is already attacking a Marine, deal with it before chasing a less urgent target across the map. After the rescue portion, fall back to the tower landing zone. Restock from the ammunition supplies and prepare for the Phantom attack. The chapter requires you to deal with the attacking Phantoms as well as any ground enemies still preventing extraction. In co-op, assign someone to watch the surviving Marines while the others handle the gunships. Everyone focusing on the same airborne target can leave the last Marine exposed to an Elite on the ground. Finish at the Pelican after the area is clear. If no Marines survived, you can still finish the chapter, but that run doesn't satisfy the protection achievement. A normal completion notification is not proof of a successful rescue challenge. **4. Pelican Down — reopen the air corridor** Crimson's transport is shot down on the way to Gagarin. You are back in Sniper Alley, this time to disable **two anti-air guns**. Take the sniper warnings seriously. Before advancing into the next exposed lane, find the Jackals on the elevated positions. Work from cover and keep enough distance to respond when the cloaked sword Elite arrives with the reinforcement sequence. Move toward the first marked gun. Collect the sniper resupply beside the ramp if you need it, clear the approach and use the gun's objective interaction. After that, continue toward the second gun while dealing with the heavily armed Elites and the next Phantom drop. Disable the second gun, then clear the additional reinforcements. The guns being offline opens the air corridor, but the chapter still has an enemy-clear step. When Miller marks the remaining enemies, finish those targets and follow the transit tunnel toward the science team's location. This ending is an on-foot move into the tunnel; don't stay in the clearing waiting for a Pelican pickup that isn't your next objective. **5. Gagarin — follow the recordings and shut the structure down** Enter the large room at the Refuge and continue to the far-side passages and the first marked computer. After accessing it, drop to the lower area and operate the two pillar switches. Expect enemies between interactions rather than treating the consoles as a peaceful puzzle. Return toward the main room through the corridor. Clear the Crawlers and use the corridor mouth to assess the Knights and Watchers outside. Once you can move safely, take the right-hand ramp to the middle level and the next marked computer. The ensuing fight brings more Prometheans into the room. Keep a route back to cover, and watch the upper level for the heavy-weapon threat rather than fighting only what is at eye level. Follow the next waypoint back toward the rear area and activate its switch. Clear the new Crawlers and the enemies in the main room, then access the next recording at the marked computer on the opposite side. Finally, fight to the upper central area and disable **four power sources**. Clear the remaining waves and follow the extraction marker through the overgrown passage to the clearing. There is also a Red vs. Blue radio here if you still need **Roses vs Violets**: from the opening room, follow the left wall into the overgrown passage. At its first fork, look up-left for the small yellow box partly concealed by vegetation and shoot it. Return to the main route afterward. **Before starting Catherine** Check all five chapter records. The episode achievement is **Artifact**. Keep your Hacksaw rescue result separate from ordinary chapter completion, and keep solo Legendary separate from co-op if Smooth Operator is your goal. This episode's maps return later with different tasks. Record the chapter name, not just “finished the Refuge.” That small distinction can save a lot of unnecessary replaying.
