**Halo 4: Forerunner — keep the UNSC gun, find the terminal, then tackle the pars**
**The Master Chief Collection. Mission spoilers.**
Forerunner spends most of its time offering you new weapons. That makes its special achievement a fairly good test of whether you're paying attention to your inventory. You can use the Promethean weapons, but you can't replace both starting guns if you're trying to keep a UNSC weapon for the whole mission.
**Five direct targets**
- **Forerunner:** complete the mission.
- **Lord of Admirals:** activate Terminal 2 on Forerunner.
- **This is my Rifle, This is my Gun:** carry a UNSC weapon throughout the mission on **Heroic or Legendary**.
- **Raging in the Dark:** beat the **20-minute** par time.
- **Shadow of Sundered Star:** beat the **22,000-point** par score.
The special weapon challenge has the difficulty restriction. Don't transfer that restriction to simply finishing the mission or activating its terminal.
**Reserve one slot before the first portal**
For the weapon challenge, start the full mission on Heroic or Legendary and choose which starting UNSC weapon you're keeping. Treat that slot as unavailable for swaps.
You don't need ammunition in the reserved gun at the end. You need to keep carrying a UNSC weapon. That means you can use your other slot for a LightRifle, Scattershot or whatever suits the next encounter without pretending the achievement requires every kill to come from the original assault rifle.
The dangerous moment is usually a hurried pickup beside a weapon rack. Check which weapon you're holding before you interact. If it's the one you're keeping, switch to the other slot first.
In co-op, check your inventory after a respawn. Don't assume that a replacement loadout preserved the condition. The cleanest plan is one where you never have to argue with the game about whether a brief drop, death or reacquisition counted.
For that reason, I'd separate this from an experimental speed route. Heroic is sufficient; there is no extra requirement to do the challenge on Legendary.
**Terminal 2: below the entrance balcony before the first tower**
Continue through the opening Promethean encounters until you reach the circular outdoor fighting area and the approach to the first pylon. After clearing the enemies there, look beneath the balcony and ramp leading into the next structure.
The terminal is at ground level below that entrance. Collect it before climbing through the doorway and passing the weapon cache toward the first three-generator arena.
This is not at the top of the beam-control tower. If you've already destroyed generators and ridden the tower's lift, you've gone beyond the collectible's entrance-area landmark.
Activate the terminal rather than just approaching it. Then resume the normal route into the structure.
**Raging in the Dark: learn the portal sequence**
The twenty-minute target becomes more manageable when the objectives are familiar: first portal, first tower, return to the hub, second portal, second tower, return to the hub, final portal, escape.
Each tower requires three generators before you can reach its control. Use the remaining objective markers rather than running around the arena trying to remember which generator you destroyed. At the top, operate the console and leave through the portal; there isn't another combat objective to find on the roof.
The final Ghost section also deserves practice. A clean, controlled drive beats a fast crash followed by a checkpoint reload. This checklist doesn't depend on an out-of-bounds Banshee skip.
**Shadow of Sundered Star: use the updated target**
MCC's Forerunner score target is **22,000**, not the older 25,000 figure still present in some references.
There are plenty of enemies, but the mission is long enough that slow fights can hurt the result. Remove Watcher support, keep a useful weapon supplied and finish encounters decisively. A Knight that repeatedly retreats and recovers is a good reason to adjust your position or weapon, not keep repeating the same unsuccessful shots.
Use scoring modifiers only when you understand what they change. A setup that adds points but makes you restart both towers isn't necessarily an improvement. Check the final mission score; a promising number before the escape isn't the completed result.
