**Halo 4: Requiem — the wreckage, the Cartographer and the final gateway**
**The Master Chief Collection. Mission spoilers. Conventional route, not a speedrun.**
Requiem gives you room to move after Dawn's corridors, but that doesn't mean the safest route is driving straight through every fight. There are places where a Warthog helps, places where the vehicle has to stay behind, and a few entrances that are much easier once you've dealt with the enemies watching them.
**Get equipped before leaving the crash**
Search the wreckage around the crash site before heading through the rock passage. Take a precision weapon and enough ammunition to make the first outdoor fights manageable. You will find more equipment later, but there is no benefit to walking away from useful UNSC supplies with an unsuitable loadout.
When the passage opens onto the big view, follow the trail to the left. The next wreckage area has working Warthogs. Take one through the canyon, slowing down when the route opens into Covenant-held ground.
The vehicle gets you there. It doesn't make you immune to plasma fire. On Heroic and Legendary, stop somewhere you can withdraw, get a look at the enemies ahead, and remove the dangerous ranged targets before committing to the open ground. A fuel-rod Grunt or elevated Jackal deserves attention before a handful of ordinary infantry.
If an Elite reaches a Ghost, don't remain parked in front of him. Use the terrain to break his firing line. You can fight the encounter on foot rather than making the Warthog survive every exchange.
At the rocky passage beyond this battlefield, leave the vehicle and continue on foot. Don't waste time trying to force it through the ledge and cave route.
**Reach the Forerunner entrance**
Work through the cave patrol and approach the larger structure beyond. Clear the enemies covering the ramps before climbing into their crossfire. The elevated approach gives you useful firing positions, but it also exposes you if you keep moving while several enemies still have a shot.
Watch the entrance for a camouflaged Elite. If you see the shimmer, give yourself room rather than charging through the doorway. A sword at close range can undo an otherwise clean fight very quickly.
Go inside when the entrance is secure. The Sentinels encountered here aren't your next targets. Continue to the Cartographer and use its console.
**Restore the two power cores**
The Cartographer sequence sends you to two separate power cores. These are **activated**, not destroyed. Save the ammunition for the Covenant arriving to interrupt you.
Start with the indicated side. Operate the bridge control, cross the light bridge and use the core. The route brings you back down and connects you toward the next part of the room. Expect enemies to enter as the objective advances; activating the machinery doesn't mean the return trip is clear.
Use the height changes to your advantage. Stop at a position where you can see the next group without exposing yourself to the entire room. On Legendary, a controlled plasma-pistol and precision-weapon combination is more economical against shielded Elites than unloading rifle ammunition into every shield.
Repeat the process at the other core. Once both are active, return to the Cartographer console. Follow the newly opened objective route instead of continuing to circle the power machinery.
**Cross the exterior bridge**
The next lift takes you toward a long exterior bridge. Before committing to the lower fighting area, look at the enemies and aircraft ahead. The open sightlines are useful for your rifle, but they work both ways.
Move between pieces of cover and clear the infantry blocking the next section. Phantoms and Banshees make staying in one exposed position a bad idea. Don't stand in the middle of the bridge trying to finish a distant target while an aircraft lines up another pass.
There are vehicle and heavy-weapon opportunities along this stretch. A reachable Banshee can change the fight, while a rocket launcher gives you another answer to aircraft. Neither is a requirement to turn the rest of the level into an air-combat challenge. Use the option you can control safely and keep the far doorway as your destination.
**Push through the gateway courtyard**
Beyond the bridge, the gateway approach brings another mixture of infantry, vehicles and fixed weapons. Clear the guns watching the route before making a long crossing. If you take a Ghost, use it to work around cover and pick off enemies; don't boost into the next doorway before checking whether the vehicle can actually continue.
Move toward the central approach and deal with the enemies controlling the ramps. Concussion fire is particularly annoying when you're trying to climb a narrow route, so don't remain pinned against the same corner while it keeps arriving.
Inside, keep an eye out for another sword-wielding Elite. Take the upward route once it is safe. The paths eventually bring you to the final Hunter encounter.
**Fight the Hunters, then check under the ramp**
The two Hunters guard the way forward. Look for the fuel-rod ammunition and plasma grenades available around the approach before spending all your small-arms ammunition on their armor.
The friendly Sentinels can distract them. Use that distraction to change your angle and attack exposed areas rather than standing directly in front of a raised shield. If one Hunter turns toward you, move back into cover and work around him. On the higher difficulties, separate your attacks instead of trying to absorb both enemies' fire at once.
After the fight, continue through the doorway into the long passage leading to the final elevator. **Before riding the lift, look beneath the ramp for the terminal.** This is the mission's collectible, and the elevator is the point you don't want to rush past before checking it.
With that handled, take the lift and let the ending sequence advance. Requiem is complete.
