**Halo 4: Dawn — Chief's records, the time target and the score target** **The Master Chief Collection. Mission spoilers.** Dawn's checklist is small enough that it's easy to make it more complicated than it needs to be. There are four direct mission targets here: finish it, find Chief's records, beat the clock and beat the score. The records are not a Forerunner terminal, and the score run doesn't need to be the same run as your fastest clear. **The four targets** - **Dawn:** complete the mission. - **Digging up the Past:** access Master Chief's records near the beginning. - **Piece of Cake:** finish below the **15-minute** par time. - **Gunslinger:** beat the **25,000-point** par score. Mission completion and the records don't require a Legendary run. Use the difficulty that fits what you're trying to do. For score and time attempts, start from the beginning of the mission and avoid modifiers that disable scoring or time achievements. **Find the records before the first fight** After leaving cryo and retrieving Cortana, follow the walkway forward, but don't simply continue into the next room. Look left for stairs going down to the lower floor beneath the cryo-bay walkway. Descend and find the console on the other side of that lower area. Interact with it to access Chief's service record. You're looking for the record about John-117, not merely a ship-status display encountered on the main route. The detour happens before the elevator climb and the first boarding fights, so it is an easy objective to handle on a fresh mission start. There is no need to finish the whole campaign before it becomes available. This console has its own achievement. Halo 4's seven collectible Forerunner terminals start in **Requiem**, the next playable mission. Don't keep searching Dawn for an eighth terminal or wait for this records console to count toward that separate collection. **Piece of Cake: where to stop wasting time** A sub-15-minute run benefits more from knowing the route than from reckless movement. Have your weapons ready before activating the observation-deck console, deal with the boarders efficiently, and leave when the route opens. In the interior, move from encounter to encounter instead of repeatedly checking rooms already cleared. Pick up the battle rifle just outside the airlock so you don't have to solve every distant target with the assault rifle. Outside, head for the launch-control marker, activate it, then respond to the changed objective at the obstructed missile. Standing at the control station waiting for another prompt wastes time because the mechanism needs your direct intervention elsewhere. During the final escape, follow the route rather than collecting kills. Follow the escape-pod route to the closing sequence; you do not need to kill every Covenant soldier aboard the ship. Turn on the timer so you can see where a practice attempt slows down. Aim comfortably under the target instead of building a plan that depends on the displayed clock landing exactly on the boundary. **Gunslinger: finish with the points** The **25,000-point** requirement is not the smaller score target attached to some other Halo campaigns. Confirm that you're looking at Halo 4's Dawn, not a similarly named achievement from another game. For a score attempt, take the boarding fights and exterior enemies seriously rather than importing a route that skips most combat. Precision kills and efficient encounter clears help keep the run moving while earning points. Choose a difficulty you can complete without repeated deaths before adding extra scoring skulls. A harder setup isn't automatically better. If it leaves you dying in the same room or spending too long fighting one Elite, the extra challenge can work against the final result. Add one change at a time and check the end-of-mission score rather than assuming that a promising number halfway through guarantees the unlock. **Keep the editions straight** The original Xbox 360 Halo 4 also has the Dawn completion and records achievements. MCC adds its own campaign time and score achievement structure. Use MCC's requirements and achievement names when following this checklist.
