**Halo: Reach — The Pillar of Autumn's two pads and the Chief cameo**
**MCC achievement guide. Ending spoilers.**
The achievement most likely to send you down the wrong path here is one that MCC doesn't actually have. The falling assassination at the opening cliff belongs to the original Xbox 360 achievement list. You can finish this mission's MCC targets without repeatedly throwing Noble Six off that ledge.
The real checklist is shorter: finish the mission, beat its time and score targets, collect both pads, and catch the brief Master Chief view at the end.
**Mission targets**
- **Send Me Out... With A Bang:** complete The Pillar of Autumn in MCC.
- **Wait, How'd the Ship Get Down Here?:** finish below the **20-minute par time**.
- **Precious Cargo:** finish above the **25,000-point par score**.
- **Digital Destinies:** read **data pad 9**, available on any difficulty.
- **Assembled the Majority:** read **data pad 18** on **Legendary**.
- **Collection Eligibility Confirmed:** reveal Master Chief during the ending cinematic.
The score here is 25,000 in MCC, not the original Reach's 20,000 figure. Likewise, do not copy the original completion achievement's Normal-or-higher requirement onto MCC's plain mission-completion entry.
Start at the beginning when building the mission's completion, time, or score record. A rally-point visit is useful for collectibles, but isn't a replacement for a documented full run.
**Data pad 18 comes first on the route**
The Legendary pad's higher number doesn't mean you'll encounter it later. Both pads are around the ship-breaking yard, and the rooftop one comes before the corridor one.
On **Legendary**, reach the large shipyard area recognizable as Boneyard. Take the stairs into the buildings on the left side of the approach, work through to the exterior walkway, and follow the raised route across the area.
Look for the ramp and a gap in the metal-beam barrier that lets you jump onto the adjacent roof to the right. Once on that roof, go around its southern corner and inspect the roof edge for the pad. This is the roof by the garage, not the top of the dismantled frigate.
Read it before returning to the ordinary exit route. You don't need to clear every distant enemy just to satisfy the collectible, but clearing the enemies with an angle on the walkway makes the climb much less irritating. Don't turn a careful roof jump into an attempt to outrun several shooters at once.
**Data pad 9: the windowed corridor**
After crossing the shipyard and entering the next interior, look along the **right-hand side of the corridor**. There are two windowed rooms.
Break the window into the **second room** and climb inside. The pad is on the table near the cardboard boxes toward the far-left corner of that room. Interact with it for **Digital Destinies**.
This is an office detour, not another rooftop jump. If you've already continued into the later Hunter encounter, you've gone beyond the location. Check your collectible record before replaying a long stretch just because you don't remember which of the two pads you read.
**Collection Eligibility Confirmed**
Finish the mass-driver encounter. As soon as you've fired the successful shot at the cruiser and the ending cinematic starts, **hold the look input to the right**.
On a controller, that means holding the right stick right continuously through the transition, not tapping it once and letting go. The camera's brief view into the Autumn's hangar can reveal the cryopod containing Master Chief.
Do not wait until you're already admiring the Pelican in the hangar to start trying to turn. The timing window is short enough that beginning your input early is the simpler approach.
For mouse-and-keyboard players, guides and player reports describe inconsistent camera response. Continued rightward mouse movement is the equivalent input, but don't treat one short swipe as a held controller stick. If the cinematic won't respond and you have a controller available, it is the better-documented method. This is a control-method recommendation, not a claim that PC players need a different version of the game.
A nearby checkpoint/rally-point replay can save another whole mission run for this particular cameo. Check which late section your menu offers rather than relying on an old guide's rally-point letter: published descriptions disagree on those labels.
If the view appeared but the award hasn't registered, check the game's and platform's achievement records before assuming the route was wrong. Do not delete your save data because a comment thread presents that as an easy fix.
**Time and score need different priorities**
For the 20-minute target, know the vehicle exit, the shipyard path, and the landing-zone sequence. Long detours for the two pads will not help. The conventional walkthrough is a route-learning guide, not a guarantee of a sub-20 finish on your first attempt.
For 25,000 points, use a difficulty and scoring modifiers you can handle without repeated deaths. The mission provides plenty of combat, but a large enemy count isn't an unlimited time allowance. Keep an eye on the time bonus, and make sure your final score remains above the target when the mission ends.
The landing-zone fights and final gun are worth practicing before turning on modifiers that make survival harder. Losing a good attempt to an unfamiliar final sequence is avoidable preparation trouble, not evidence that you need an even more difficult skull combination.
Don't abandon the ending the instant the cruiser is hit. Let the mission record properly, and remember the rightward camera input if you're also collecting the cameo.
**Original Xbox 360 distinction**
**If They Came to Hear Me Beg** asks the original Reach player to perform an assassination while surviving a fall that would otherwise be fatal. The opening cliff is a well-known location for it.
That achievement was **not carried into MCC's achievement list**. A later MCC challenge used a related falling-assassination task, but a historical challenge and a permanent platform achievement are not interchangeable. Check the actual list you're completing before spending an evening chasing the wrong unlock.
There is also a hidden weapon-crate trick near the final area. It can produce additional weapons, but it is not another named mission achievement in MCC, and its physics can make it unreliable. Nothing in the checklist above depends on it.
After this mission, continue to **Lone Wolf** for its own pad and survival/score targets. Finding both pads here still leaves that final Legendary pad to account for if you're working toward all nineteen.
